  1. Such a small world . I went onto the HMVF web site.and used your photos as a reference point after it arrived.

I then went to see a friend with a 5sw to check his rack

Yes ..a The rack had the string but interestingly my rack has a few holes drilled in it . Presumably to help secure items onto the rack..that confirms it's a used item and there is some evidence the bolts securing it to its original bike were cut ...

A wire brush and kurust next...

I have 2 more items on my wish list ..an original sump guard ..and Horn

  2. In June 2011 shortly after acquiring my Triumph 3sw I posted that I wanted an original rear rack ... I was  advised it was a rare item ...but had no idea how rare after a 11 year hunt .  I am now the owner of an original rack after spotting one on eBay .
Always a risk but it’s condition has exceeded my expectation .. it needs a clean up . Kurust and paint but I thought I would share the photos of it in new condition

  3. The challenge. You have is you need to show correct title to register a vehicle in the UK and that's all linked to ID numbers ...

Wrongful conversion is selling a vehicle without correct title and you a may have  right of recovery against the.importer or at least require him to secure the title evidence required for the uk.

Most importers sort out the NOVA and V5 as it increases the vehicles value .

  4. The USA title number would normally include the vin number and engine number p?us a description of the vehicle ... With a WW2 jeep it may use the chassis number but should include a description ...

This varies by state but demonstrates legal ownership ..The   DMV . Should be able to confirm you have correct title

Curious have co successfully completed your nova ? The import and tax forms

with the Confirmed DMV forms. Completed NOVA you should be able to register the vehicle

  5. Hi .It's first beneficial to understand why the engine seized ...has it seized due to a component failure or has it been stood a log time and the piston rings have corroded and attached themselves to The cylinder wall.

Let's assume  there's no evidential damage and it's just seized with age and corrosion

I would start by dumping it all  in a bucket of paraffin or Diesel .whilst it may sound expensive  servicing garages often have lots of spoilt fuel from miss fuelling .. They often have 20litre containers for oil and cleaning fluids.these will importantly be fuel proof.

I would pop around a few garages with a box of quality street and you should get sorted.. Get the engine into this and give it a long soak ......after a week remove it and clean anything you can get to with brushes/wire wool . Then apply penetrating oil as required...

This process repeated should allow you to identify the extent of the corrosion and whether the items are salvageable or just scrap .please share some photos ...

  6. When I got my jeep I was not happy with starting it on 6v . I considered changing it but then was. Advised to consider a high output 6v battery . I approached a specialists Lincon  batteries who builds a high output 6v battery.

The jeep was transformed and I have continued with this throughout my 19 years of ownership ..during that time I have only had  2 batteries...

I would recommend sticking with  6 volt

  7. Your jeep may have served in multiple units in its lifetime ..I believe my own jeep was in the Pacific theatre .ended up in Japan .was rebuilt for the Korean war ( rebuild plate on its engine ) then given to the Greek army under the Marshall programme and fitted out to carry a recoilless gun  .about 35 years of military service and lots of modifications

As such you may have multiple  wartime and post war markings on your vehicle. .....

  8. The Markings are British markings . With as previously commented the arm of service indicator of red over blue being Royal Artillery . The white Li e at the top is called an arm of service flash and  were used to indicate units allocated to higher level formations ...

The white bar above indicates corps troops

So I believe the 88 May denote the 88th heavy anti aircraft regiment ..royal artillery ....

There's a lot of information on the unit online but I would suggest contacting the royal artillery museum about your find ....
