British vehicles were bought by belgium and netherlands dealers. Germans never had much interests with british MV,s. (because the steering-wheel is at the wrong side ;-) ) Spares we search and get in UK if available. Since 1994 we own the Militant. A stuck fuelpipe and a brocken aircompressor were the only major failures in that time. It´s a really workhorse!
  2. A little movie about our british MV collection: shows 10TonTiltTrailer (TTT) with AEC Militant, Reme-Sankey w. LR109 and 2axle (24ton) lowloader w. Scammell Crusader.
  3. FFW is Fitted For Wireless - an older term for FFR = Fitted for Radio. If the Pig has the big two gears alternator with a lot of wires hanging around in the interior it´s possible a radio command vehicle.
  4. Thanks a lot for your comments. Sure, I can weld the exhaust part by self, but it need´s less time to buy one. The roof metal work was finished today morning: Now it´s a Crusader XXL :-) (Not a 100% restoration I know, but I want a 100% useable lorry for long distance and I like to stand upright in a cab when I change my clothes). Any news about the SCAMMELL Letters?
  5. Some new pictures of the restauration steps on my Crusader: work on the roof and cab: I need this exhaust part (exhaust-distributor from turbo to pipes) . Do anyone know where I can get it?
  6. A saladin thread in the http://afvsociety.co.uk/ told from ALV801 1st date of service in 1967. ALV817 was build in 1969. (I can´t belive that ALVIS made only 20 Saladins between 1967 and 1969...) But if these dates are correct, it isn´t possible that your one (ALV 839) saw service in 1967 too. My saladin has hull ALV259 and is from 1958.
  7. Good luck to your project. Gun is a little oversized - 155mm - isn´t it ? ;-) I have to pull the turret of my saladin too, because I want to rebuild my gearbox. As you told - seems it is not a very difficult work?
  8. I would never go into that mud with my pig  To much work for a funny moment only(most for the public I guess). Did you got a lot of mud inside? And how long you needed for clean it again?
  9. Whow - thanxs for that nice message ekawrecker - SCAMMELL letters are the best choice for me, sure. But if I can´t get one - LEYLAND will be ok also. Today I begun to remove all the paint from the cab of my crusader. It´s a lot and dirty work :-( Some small rusted areas I have to weld I guess. Pictures follow next time.
  10. I know, Mike. Before I got my Crusader I used a (own militarised) 4435 Transconti for my hobby. It was a superb truck, fast and strong.
  11. Now I know the different between Crusader and Amazon - thank you radiomike7. Long time I believed that there is no or little different and Amazon were only a new name for an up- or downgraded Crusader. Some times ago I asked about it here in HMVF - but I got no answer. So I change my statement and say Crusader/Marathon. :-D Another question please: The Crusader tachometer shows no red marking. What is the average safe rev for the RR eagle? My engine goes into 2500 rpm, but I´m anxious to let it go over 2100 rpm. In no Scammell or RollsRoyce manual I found an answer.
  12. British army use still today some FORD trucks/tractors. The 4x2 FORD CARGO 40280 with Cummins engine is the most importent truck I guess. Since 2005 MOD sell them to the public. I found some here http://www.ljacksonandco.com/ and at the german http://www.vebeg.de/ site. Knows anybody how many CARGOs MOD bought and was the famoust Ford Transcontinental ever in sevice?
  13. The crusader CR 6x4 tractor (Mil and Civ) has a maximum speed of 39,2 mph at 2100 rpm. Ratio is 7.856:1. Originaly the recovery crusader has a rear ratio of 6.562:1 and a top speed of 48,2 mph (78 km/h). With a set of bigger wheels (MAN rims 22,5" will fit) you can top the speed to 50 mph. The free space of the rear suspension not allow more bigger ones. To reach the todays trucking high speed is to fit the crown wheel set (or complete axles) of the civilian crusader/amazon for international trucking use. That´s the ratio 5.68:1 (Leyland part no. 41736314/5) ore even better 5.20:1 (41738895/6). Only with it (on original wheels 11.00x20) you are able to reach 55-60 mph at 2100-2300 rpm.
  14. @ N.O.S. Thanks for invitation, but 1200 miles every second wednesday will blow up my budget ;-) - I live in the south of germany.
  15. Thanks gents. I got a brand new set of crownwheels and pinions from John Riley rileymilitary@talktalk.net for 900,- GBP + package. The work was done in one week (1 person job). Only the measures and reassemble of the differentials was done from a local truck shop. I make some pictures of the working steps - hope it is with interest: All four hubcaps removed and the driveshafts pulled That is the new crownwheel set The second rear axle The first rear axle, driveshaft removed Through drive shaft (of first differential ) One of the dismounted differential heads with the crownwheel and pinion. The empty first rear axle. A new set of pinion bearings for the first axle and a complete oil change was needed. My crusader need some more time to reach the top speed. 10 gears shifting is not as fast as automatic drive of MAN, Mercedes or Scania - but makes me more fun :-D
  16. The canvas was with the pig as I purchased it. Herewith pictures as I found it as a FV1612FFR Mk.2 at Rotterdam/netherlands : After all metal work it is now a FFR Mk.1 again. The interior is complete now with full working C42 and SEM25 radios. (Berlin brigade has some pigs and ferrets with that radios, I heard). Just the bed on the left side is my own design.
  17. Herewith a picture of my Crusader CR 6x4. The last remain Crusader tractor of BAOR in germany I believe. He is LHD and I use him to transport my SALADIN to and from any military event in bavaria. I bought him direct from MOD at Mönchengladbach in 2004. He was a part of the 617Sqn. 7th tank transport regiment at HAMM and with operation teltic at the first gulf war around BASRA. Last year I spended him some fast rear axles and now he is able to reach a speed of 55 miles/h. Enough for german Autobahn. Next I like to paint him in glossy DBG. This picture was shot after I purchased him from MOD Sometimes he is very usefull to recover Bundeswehr trucks out of the mud :-D Now as my SALADIN transporter with Langendorf Trailer and a 6ton concrete-load weight for propper pulling.
  18. Hello gents - I took my restored pig first time to public last weekend. It was the 50th aniversary meeting of JaboG 32 at Lagerlechfeld (German Fighter-Bomber Sqdr.) and I was there with some friends of our bavarian military vehicle club. Showing some of our stuff with Pig, Saladin, LR, Crusader, Unimog, VW181, Werdau G5, Robur...
  19. I´ve done Chris. Just found two more! Two Hotch from privat owner, one in running condition, one to restore. Both 25.000 EUR. http://jeep.cfasp.de/upload/423948.jpg[/img] The contact should be made here (also some more pictures): http://www.waffen-hanje.de/
  20. Till today I found three Hotchkiss, may be for sale. But seems it is not in haste for Alan... :?
  21. @Alan Can you tell us in what condition the SpZ should be? Ready for show or to restore...? May be I can help too.
  22. @ clive Do not know, Clive. I´ve got the vehicle datas from him. He bought the goddess from the British Army Vehicle Disposal in Monchen-Gladbach directly - not from private. Thank you for links, but I dont like to register at another forum again. About the book I will tell him. I thought, I get the technical datas here. He only needs main datas from engine, vehicle weights and speed etc. Is there no specific vehicle catalouge in UK to find out these datas and put it in here? I own the book "british military vehicles 1981". In it I found Bedford R- Series GS, Tipper and Tanker but no Fire Engine. If it has the same chassies I take the datas from the book I guess.
  23. A friend has just bought a nice fire fighter vehicle from British Army. To get the new german registration he need all technical datas about his Bedford. Can tell anyone what is needed ? He only knows: Registration Mark: 109 UXU Body Type: FIRE ENGINE Taxation: HISTORIC VEHICLE Type of fuel: PETROL Wheelplan: NOT-RECORDED VIN/Chassis/Frame No.:RH9392 Year of build: 1957 Many thanks...
  24. What should I say Richard - maybe it was a special price for special guests :? However, I will work with that adapter. Many friends of mine with ferrets too. I hate that dirty work with the original bowls and filters. I can tell you some tales about original filter bowls - coming from REME - without gaskets, cups, spring or also a filter in it...
  25. May be I asked at the wrong dealer, I guess. As I want new filter elements at Beltring last year, Mr. Glenn only sold complete filter bowls: each 50 pounds. :-o That isn´t cheap for me! So I search for an option. 50 pounds are 75 EUR or nearly 80 US$. It´s the price for one complete adapter incl. 10 filters. The days for washing filters are gone - for me 8-)
