If you will have 2 vehicles by the end of the year Jack, is the original Jimmy on Milweb :?: I know it's a long time ago since I went to school but 1+2 made 3 in those days. :?

Hi Tim
If you can roll a Jeep what would you have done to a bike :?:
-
Hi Steve
There were 3 different Harley's fitted with sidecars used by US forces and also Indian made one model, some supplied to Britain. They were largely
phased out when the Jeep became available. As well the 3x2 Nortons there were also some 3x1 Nortons built for the RAF.
I've got model no's, engine details etc if you need them.

With a 12v system we have found that starting is instantaneous, whereas
when we used 6v the engine would sometimes have to be turned over for
a long period even though it was tuned correctly. I know some people who have used a 12v system for years with no problems, after all a Jimmy
is not likely to be used on a daily basis. I realise that a Jeep may be used
for daily transport and the 6v system is adequate for starting but the
downside is the lighting, glow- worms come to mind.

Hi Mark
There are 4 bolts attaching the brake drum to a flange, you should have undone these then the seal would have been left in place. The seal is complete as you describe it and should go back OK if it wasn't leaking before, however since you have dismantled it you might as well fit anew one when you reassemble it to give you peace of mind. Hope this is of some help.

A Very Happy Prosperous and Peaceful New Year to all on HMVF and may it go on to even bigger and better things. Many thanks to Jack and all the moderators.

Hi Mark
I'm not an expert on Jeep transmissions but I am sure there should be a seal there. Ring Tony Sudds at T S Autos in Gravesend tel 01474 564038,
expert advice comes for free, parts at very good prices.

I have just translated an attestation which a mate of mine got when he recently bought a GMC CCKW. It is dated 14th August 2001 and headed
Facts and Figures,c/o Utah Beach Museum,Ste. Marie du Mont. It reads-:
This heavy truck licence number MVS 724 is under contract to the Facts and Figures Society (company)? and only carries materials to be used during the making of the film at Utah Beach from 16th to 20th August 2001
It is signed by Colonel Johnston (christian name unreadable) on behalf of Jeremy Johns,Head of Production. Any info on this film or history of the truck would be gratefully received.

Hi Matt
If it's a runner have you thought of driving it back on trade plates? If this is not feasible check with the docks, they may have a loading ramp so that it could be put on a flat or curtainsider, this would give you a much
better chance of a reduced price for a return load. There will be an agent
or broker in the area who may be able to help you find a haulier looking for a load.
Best of luck

After WW2 ex-military vehicles were to be seen everywhere, all garages
seemed to have a Chev, Ford or Morris with a crane, usually home built,
farmers and hauliers used anything they could snap up but the local council capped them all with a fleet of Diamond T's fitted with huge vee
snowploughs. As a small boy I was hooked and when at 6 or 7 years old
I was given a book about WW2 it started a lifelong interest.

Hi Jack
Try to get a copy of Bart Vanderveen's book The Observers Fighting Vehicles Directory WW11 ISBN 0 7232 1469 7 published by Frederick Warne. It is now out of print and copies have sold on ebay for up to £80
but you can pick one up sometimes at shows for much less or try a search on Google. It is a mine of information and would be a great help to you.

Sorry Steve, can't help you with pic's.As I have mentioned before on the
forum there are pic's and all info in Vanderveen's Fighting Vehicles Directory WW11 if you can find a copy at a reasonable price. It seems to be accepted as "the bible" on all WW2 stuff.
