  1. N.Wales MVT members will be at 2 locations with vehicles actively Poppy selling ,most RBL branches are delighted and very grateful for any offers of help. I feel it is the least I can do for all the sacrifices that have been made on our behalf. Lest we forget !

  2. Got to agree with you about France,so noticeable last year in Normandy both at Pointe du Hoc and Longue battery at how dangerous it could be but not a sign in sight and allowed to go anywhere and clamber over anything. In this country you would not even be allowed anywhere near, whatever happened to those little words 'take care'. I could go on for hours about it but i'd better shut up in case the thought police are listening.

  3. Me too, several including Das Reich, Overlord and his latest, Armageddon

which covers the battles for Germany from late 1944 on. All the books are well researched but some of his conclusions/opinions are considered

    somewhat controversial by some 'experts'.

  4. Definitely agree about the Delaforce books, very well researched also about libraries,I have had literally hundreds of books on loan ,I could never have afforded the cost of so many.

  5. Hi Paul

The new owner is a young guy called Mark, he is in the caravan business

he says his intention is to carry on running Maes Artro but I think it will all hinge on profit. It remains to be seen, I will talk to you about it at the meeting.

  6. If your interest is the Normandy campaign, then 'Decision in Normandy' by Carlo d'Este gives the overall view but 'The Bloody Battle for Tilly' and

'A Fine Night for Tanks' both by Ken Tout deal with specific operations.

  7. There are enthusiasts and collectors in all the European countries as there is worldwide, the last country which seems to shedding vehicles is Norway

but I think perhaps our Netherlands members know more about this subject ,Iam sure you have seen pics on the CCKW site.

  8. Hi Paul

We were considering going but when I spoke to the organisers they seemed to be very disorganised. They were very vague about camping arrangements and when I mentioned a contribution to fuel costs (they will be getting a grant for the event) I got a very negative reaction although said afterwards that they would consider it and get back to me,I'm still waiting.

  9. Hi Jack

If your vehicle is marked to represent a specific unit then I think it would look odd unless you were to wear the correct uniform for that unit. The GMC was used by all the Allied nations at some time, so you have a huge choice. I know of some people who use magnetic signage and so can chang the unit markings at will.

  10. Hi Shane

As long as the RL was made before 1st Jan 1960 you can drive it on a normal car licence, when Richard mentions a C1 licence I think he might be confusing it with a C+E licence.C1 covers vehicles between 3500kg and 7500kg with a trailer up to 750kg,C+E covers any vehicle over 3500kg with a trailer over 750kg and equates to what used to be known as a class 1 licence. Since a halftrack is steered by its front wheels and not by its tracks I don't believe you would need a H licence for it.
