Hi Arthur, welcome, seen your posts on CCKW site. If you could manage to send some of that snow over here Berni might even send you some of her biscuits.

Whoever was building it, they certainly were not building B-17 bases in Hastings!!!

Hi Richard
Yes,but I couldn't identify it, no doubt some one will know as the vehicles must have been hired in for the filming.

Anybody see this programme tonight? Plenty of Jeeps Dodges and Jimmys
some with the usual "mods". But an airfield was being built by engineers wearing the insignia of the 1st Inf Div, could this have happened or would it have been done by USAAF construction personnel?

Hi Jack
Good luck with your new career :!: Always remember everybody had to start somewhere and however expert a person may be nobody knows
everything although there is always some ---- around who thinks he does.

I agree with Kewelde and Karoshi on this, trouble is too many people don't know the differences and the properties of these oils. There has been a huge leap in technology since these vehicles were built that a modern oil of any type is far superior to the oils of years ago, Morris
Lubricants have an excellent web site which is well worth a visit and I would recommend their products after many years experience on a huge variety of vehicles and plant.

Hi Jack
I certainly agree with you about the TV programme, trouble is the people
that had Jack's knowledge and experience are all dead.
Many years ago on TV a group of archaeologists etc were supposed to identify obscure items, my late father in law was in tears laughing at
their weird identification of a couple of items when in reality they were simply old agricultural items which had been used with horses.
I wonder how many things are in museums etc. which have been similarly
misidentified and "authenticated" by these " experts".
I spent many happy hours listening to some of these old countrymen
but sadly so much knowledge has died with them.

Sounds great Jack but I'd rather you than me, I'm much more in tune with the world of the late Fred Dibnah than all this hi-tech stuff.

As we are now expecting 6 blogs from Jack I'm sure you can manage a couple.

SIX and counting.

I was thinking more in terms of five. GMC cargo, GMC shopvan, GMC (type not specified) ground up resto with all NOS parts, Dodge and Sherman.

Hi Paul
They were quite a common conversion on Land Rovers and Range Rovers at one time but were rather slow, especially in the Range Rover even with an overdrive. If you have got room I would go for the 6.354, a friend put one in a L. Rover 110 and it was incredible.

Hi DD
It depends on what year you want to represent, the M43 did not come into
general use until late '44 although I don't know if armoured infantry had them earlier, much the same applies to the roughout boots with attached
ankle gaiters. I have the 99.99 boots from SOF and find them excellent, a friend has the others and I would probably have got that type had they been available earlier.
S/hand uniform items often come for sale on Milweb.

Hi Paul
I know of several people who have bought Perkins 4.236 engines only to find that it was either the agricultural or industrial version which are in the majority and are of no use for a road vehicle. The only vehidles I can remember them being fitted in were Commers. I hope yours is one of these.

Hi MM
Sorry to hear it failed, from what I've heard brakes can be a problem on Dodges so I suggest you speak to some one who has been running one for some time, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi Steve
When the tester enters the vehicle details ( reg.no and vin no ) on the computer it automatically brings up the details of make etc that are recorded at DVLA. This new system is the reason that the new registration
document was brought in. Hope this helps.

To be fair to Matt I did pose the question and Iam sure they are his honestly held opinions but I was thinking more in terms of getting more (positive) exposure in the media.

Hi Matt
I can see where you are coming from on the judging standards issue but many MV people are not interested in awards but merely want to enjoy their vehicles without worrying about the vehicle being exactly as it came from the factory. I can see both points of view and feel it is up to the individual owner to do as he or she thinks fit.
I am very surprised that you should have found the movement cliquish as personally I have found it to be very friendly and most MVers will go out of their way to offer help and advice.
I would not like to see the movement go too competitive as this has been the failing of many hobbies. These comments are merely a personal opinion and not a criticism aimed at you or anyone else.
