Hi Mart
I would love to be able to help you but am a bit too far away.May I suggest yougo to the Military Vehicle Trust website (http://www.mvt.org), look up your nearest area sec and am sure you will get the help you need.
If you have any problems let me know and I will try to sort something for you.

Looking forward to that Sheila, would love to have been there but probably a good job I wasn't as this cold that has been dragging on since before Chrimble turned into a major breathing trauma on Sunday night ,as a consequence of which I will be Hors de Combat for a couple of weeks at least.

Give me strength  Exactly what we've been telling you, the reason I made up that list for you was because that was the basic uniform
issued to the majority of troops up to late 1944 and was used through the remainder of the war., HBT's and M43's were made to be worn as layers over the top of the items I listed for you. I did leave you a message
to land line me so that I could explain things to you.

Hi Matt
I have seen a no of scabbards on Harleys but in amuch lighter colour, no idea if they were repro's but were some issued in a lighter colour which would turn to US Russet Brown when polished as was the case with some other items?
By the way, any progress on transport for your GMC from Immingham?

Ah, Sheila in charge, everything will be upside down then.
Why does everybody always claim that they hate trade shows etc. when we all know what really goes on at these things.

The majority of British vehicles used by the Axis were left behind during the evacuation from Dunkirk. (Britain had approx. 85,000 vehicles including M/Cs at the outbreak of war, most went to France with the BEF, about 5,000 came back.) During the Desert campaign in N. Africa, due to the ebb and flow of the battles vehicles changed hands frequently and both sides used each others vehicles, the British even used captured Italian tanks.

Hi Snowman
I think it might be a case of wait and see,as I understand it, this is an old law which has not been enforced and may fade into the background again.
There was a lot of concern in some quarters during the lead up to the 60th Anniversary Commemorations and there was an article in the MVT Magazine by a member who had gone to great lengths to contact the authorities and as far as I remember arranged something with the Mayor
of the area where he had a property. In the event I didn't hear of any major problems although there were certainly some inconsistencies with regard to vehicle movement on 6th June and we were victims of this but on the whole we were treated extremely well and the welcome we received from the Normandy people was incredible.

Hi Ian
As you can see you are right, the aluminium you mention is actually called Birmabright and is still available on LR parts. The military 80" which
I listed on the forum for sale has had all its alloy trim "re-Birmabrighted"
ready to be rebuilt.

Well Berni's spoken so now you'll have to do what you're told, so to repeat ,olive drab wool shirt ,tan tie.M41 jacket, M1937 trousers (mustards),tan trouser belt, canvas gaiters, rough out ankle boots, knitted jeep capall topped off with an M1 helmet. If you were to have had a job which was to keep you on the beach for a period then you would have been issued with Corcoran Para boots in an effort to keep out sand and sea water,in practice most troops kept them for walking out and put up with the wet feet. As for vehicle markings, if you use magnetic for the unit markings you can swap units at will.

The Red Ball was in many ways a shambles but it allowed the QM Dept to see all the errors and pitfalls and most of the problems were addressed and overcome in subsequent long haul ops such as the ABC.

Hi Sue
Good to see another young person with not only an interest in but also a great collection of military vehicles. It is vital the historic aspect of these vehicles is kept alive and this can only happen if the younger generation steps up to take over from the likes of me

Thanks for that Sue,my memory hasn't gone completely then :? I well remember the Light Green on the pre-production models but have just given away a huge collection of reference material so not sure how long it lasted on production vehicles if at all.

If we are talking Military S1 I seem to remember them in RAF blue and Navy blue but memory could be playing tricks. I think the people to ask would our new member, Sue and her friends from the EMLRA, they should be able to give a definitive answer.
