1. the original injection system is not functioning as it should do making rough running and the injection fuel pump seals have been eaten away by unleaded fuel so not working but we will repair it all so can be refitted if need be at later date, yes manifolds are new build to carry modern injectors. the winch was originally driven by pto from main engine but fair bit of it missing,ie 90 degree gearbox drive off main engine, chances of finding one ???? nil so fitted j60 engine to power with auto box, reason being quicker to pull cable in when not loaded, plus just one cable to control it from compartment hope tht helps
2. futher update on work carried out today, dry fitted new inlet manifolds andfinised rerouting cooling system pipes.modified the exhaust outlet pipes to make it easier to fit and remove for maintenance, finisded piping in j60 engine cooling pipes and sorted a few wiring issues out.hopefully next weekend going for start up on main engine and the j60,also paint and fit the new fuel tank.
3. yes you can turn up and watch, open to the public
4. a bit more progress made today, winch drive engine fitted and fixed in,most of plumbing sorted, cooling fans back in so back end sorted out,now ready for new inlet manifold to be fitted next week and finish cooling system piping ready for first start
5. my view is i vote for the conqueror, having worked on both from mechs point of view the conq is a lot easier to work on as more room and the design side is better than the cent and the actuall driving side of it is better but all machines have their own plus and minusses, hopefully our conq will be running again soon
6. there are quite a few early challys on site there in different guises, would make nice resto projects except they are full of concrete
7. more pics of conq progress, winch is now back in and sorting out the new propulsion (ie the winch will be driven by a j60 engine with auto box) on which as you will see fits in the engine bay,the new fuel tank is now ready to be fitted as is the totally new fuel injection system and megasqirt ignition which is shown in pic out of the conq, also all control rods refitted and what a job that was will keep you updated with progress when more work carried out
8. hi i,m andy, i live in guildford, surrey .i am an avid landrover fanatic for my sins haha own a 110 ffr, ex falklands and sankey wide track to tow behind,i work running a landscape and groundworks company, operating and repairing tracked and wheeled machines, currently all my spare time is spent with john attllee at reme museum restoring ,running and repairing a few of the musems collection.over the years have owned quite a few ex mil landys and was in the ta a few years before work commitments took over
9. next on ajendor is johns girder trailer to transport the conq, after that chieftain arrv and poss after that t72 arv but there is still a fair bit of metalwork to sort out on conq ,but main thing is to get her out and running with the winch working
10. we will have the cent there as well(just in case) but it should be more reliable now as modern injection system fitted and megasqirt ignition on it but all one in a way that it can be returned to original to please the purists,it should by our calculations cut fuel consumption making it slightly better on the pocket, look forward to seeing you there
11. haha i remember that well as it was me who pulled the chassis in half with the winch on landy
