  1. What happened to all of the German tanks/ armour after the war to make them so scarce today? I would of thought that the allies would of reconditioned them and then sent/sold them to the four corners of the earth (even though it is round).
  2. Can anyone tell me what exactly Bren Gun Carriers were for? My Grandfather always complained about them being next to useless for protecting the men in side of them, so this is telling that they were a front line vehicle, were they a small gun tractor?........
  3. Cheers Degsy, didn't think of them!
  4. Ok, how about this for an idea........... MV's Reunited, if you still know the chassis number of your old MV and want to know where it is and what it is now doing, we could have a section for this where you can post the chassis number etc etc? What do you think?
  5. Dear all. Isaac Preston ( http://www.cobbatoncombat.co.uk) was kind enough to send me the email below, seeing as it is relevant to all of us, he gave permission for it to posted here so have a read through and again, do something about it! Thanks to Isaac and to the MVT Council of Management. please do keep us up to date. _____________________________________________________________ Dear MVT Member, The Violent Crime Reduction Bill. "Manufacture, import and sale of realistic imitation firearms" Most Members now realise the seriousness of this proposed bill, with a ban on sales making our de-activated weapons and AFV's worthless. Many have already contacted MP's, the Home Office, etc, and we must keep up the pressure. Here is a recent reply from Mr Bottomley at the Home Office to an MVT Member's query on stakeholders ; Dear Sir, There is no question of applying to be a stakeholder. Anyone with a legitimate interest in the possession and use of realistic imitation firearms is automatically a stakeholder and is welcome to make a submission to the consultation. To do so you should make your case in writing and send it to the Home Office, POPCU, Firearms Section, SE Quarter, 5th Floor, Fry Building, 2 Marsham Street, London, SW1P 4DF. Alternatively, if you prefer, you could send your submission to my e-mail address. Keith Bottomley keith.bottomley@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk Below are a few more quotes from Mr Bottomley ; " the Bill is still in the early stages of its journey through Parliament During that process, weaknesses and anomalies will be exposed, debated and turned into any number of amendments. That being the case any finished legislation will probably look very different to what it does now. " " As you may know, the Bill allows for exceptions and exemptions to the proposed ban on the manufacture, importation or sale of realistic imitation firearms. The Government recognises that the law must work in a way which allows for certain genuine interests and needs. The Home Office will be consulting stakeholders about this, but the Government believes that the case for any exemptions will need to be strongly made to ensure they do not undermine the central purpose of the ban. " " We can confirm though that the Home Office has already received a number of submissions suggesting possible amendments and exceptions for the benefit of collectors, re-enactors, film and theatre groups and other sections of the community that use realistic imitation firearms, including deactivated guns, in their pastimes. " " The Bill had its Second Reading in the House of Commons in June and is scheduled for its Committee Stage there in October. We expect that the sorts of exceptions and exemptions that will be allowed for will emerge then but we cannot say what these might be at present. However, I can assure you that your comments have been noted in this context. " " Stakeholders are those people with an interest which means there is no need to be registered; if you have an interest, you are a stakeholder. We will be formally consulting with the major organisations representing specific interests (the Gun Trade Association for example) but at the same time, we welcome written contributions from any individual such as you who has an interest. " We don't have much option but to believe him ! The committee's first meeting is set for Thursday October 13th. The general opinion is that in some form this bill will become law. So as individuals and as groups we must keep informing those involved in drafting and passing this bill of it's many serious repercussions, and sending in well reasoned suggestions for exemptions and exceptions to save as much as possible of our heritage, hobby and businesses. There are various suggestions for exemptions, for example weapons made before a certain date, and or over a certain calibre, some favour a register of guns and owners etc etc. If you have a viable suggestion, send it to the people who will be making the decisions. WE MUST KEEP THE RIGHT TO SELL OUR LEGALLY OWNED DE-ACS. OUR BOTTOM LINE HAS TO BE THAT IF WE ARE TO LOSE THE RIGHT TO SELL OUR LEGALLY PURCHASED AND OWNED ITEMS, THEN WE MUST BE COMPENSATED FOR THE FINANCIAL LOSS. PLEASE INCLUDE THIS IN ANY SUBMISSION. The MVT has applied to be included as a stakeholder, and should be included in consultations along with the Gun Trade Federation, as the MVT represents much wider interests than the Federation. PLEASE ASK FOR THE MVT WITH OVER 5000 MEMBERS, BE INCLUDED ALONGSIDE THE GUN TRADE FEDERATION AS A MAJOR ORGANISATION TO BE FORMALLY CONSULTED. JUST REMEMBER, MR BOTOMLEY HAS SAID HE WILL WELCOME YOUR SUBMISSION. AS GOOD LOYAL SUBJECTS OF THE QUEEN, THEN WE SHOULD OBLIGE HIM WITH PLENTY OF CONSTRUCTIVE CORRESPONDENCE. 9. Ok, I don't want to bore you for to much longer but RR Services are sending me some colours samples 8) The paint on my GMC is a glossy mat or is it a dull gloss............
  10. Now you are just showing off
  11. When I get home I will take some pictures of the colour that is on the GMC and post them up!
  12. Tim. The piant on the GMC is pointing towards the deep green (gloss?) colour.......do Dallas supply this?
  13. So if I took a piece of my GMC down to B&Q...they could macth the paint......and the paint would be good enough to use on an MV?
  14. Please feel free John, it would be a pleasure!
  15. Hi John. ..........am I right in thinking that this great piece of history is yours? If so, it would be wonderful to hear some more about it! 8) Best wishes. Jack.
  16. ....just want to buy a tin and get it painted
  17. Told you before, take a sample of the colour you like to your local automotive paint supplier & they will match it for you. C'mon, wake up at the back Thanks Tim. ......the problem is, I have 7 different colours on there

  20. I will get a letter written and post it up in here. This way everyone can cut and paste it into Word and then print it off and send to your local MP. Then send to ALL, of the MP's in your county, all opposition MP's will do anything they can to fight their local labour MP. You must then send one to Tony Blair, Charles Clarke, Hazel Blears and then Michael Howard and Charles Kennedy, I will post up their details here sometime this morning. I am just going to send a second letter to all of the above asking for an update! If anyone has a copy a letter that they have written then please feel free to post it up here so we can all use it. I will try and make it as easy as possible for all of us to do our bit. Lets get this sorted!
  21. Hey Matt, that http://www.midwestmil.com is a great link! Dodge mirror arms fit GMC softcabs, don't they?
  22. Ok Karoshi, lets crank this one up, could you give an update? in the thread. Karoshi is right on this. We must not under estimate the effect that this Bill we have on all of us, we really must grab this bill by the throat and throttle it. Once the bill is passed we are stuffed. Do not rely on everyone else to do this job for you, you have to do it for all of us. I followed the fox hunting debate with great interest and it was passed. I have said else where that there is an awful lot to be learnt from the grave, and fundamental mistakes that were made by the pro hunting lobby. As a group, lets learn from this and take it forward and do what we can, we all have to make sure that we get this right, first time around. This is, last chance saloon.
  23. Right as it was a REME weekend here are some pictures of ' project HMVF' After the Bovington weekend and a couple of good road run we found that the keyway was worn on the bottom pulley so this weekend I decided to take a look as I we have a couple of important events that we would like to attend in the near future so I have to pull my finger out. So it was a case of removing the brush guard and pulling the rad and then you should be able to get to the pulley. Easy enough you say?! Well youo are right...........but you know what it is like, you take one bit of and then another and before you know you have about 50 different pieces of jigsaw in front of you  ................well I have to remove the wings etc etc at some stage as they have to be rub down and painted at some point, so why not now?! So all in all, I had a rubtastic weekend.........god, sanding gets boring after the first 8 hours! ............but I did manage to get out for a ride, And now for that ride.........true horsepower, bear back style. PS. NO GMC's were hurt in this restoration...........
  24. Hi all. Have some great future plans for the site as it will always need to evolve to keep it up to date relevant but before I go any further I just wanted to ask you all if you have any thoughts or ideas on what you would like to see on HMVF. Doesn't matter how big or how small they are and I am not easily offend so please do fire away!
  25. I will cut you a deal on mine  Wanting is one thing, having is another but I think Lloyd makes a good point about the Jeep Dodge correlation.
