  1. Ok, thank you gentlemen, so great points and emotions raised there, I appreciate that but I would be a lot happier if the gloves stayed on. I would like to steer this thread back on topic by saying that this topic started with the question of why vehicles of certain era's are not invited to certain themed events. ......please continue.
  2. Steve, did you see this? :-D
  3. Right ok. I think what I need to do is to set up some sort of course for the blind  just so can understand fully what us GMC driver mean.

  10. Good morning all. I hope everyone is well and had a good weekend (very polite this morning as I need your help). My company - Woodland Organics Distribution Ltd have teamed up with a charity called Gearing Up 4 Gorillas. These guys are driving for the long term survival of the critically endangered mountain gorilla with estimates suggesting only 700 individuals remaining. We had the charity in the office last week and they do not need money, they need kit so they can kit out the rangers and the anti poaching teams with essential equipment to be able to do there job, at the moment they have nothing. This is one of those charities that just shake the tin and take you money and offer you know means of accounatability - here we can see the results. Here is their website http://www.g4g.co.uk and you will also be able to follow their progress from our site to when our webmaster has done his bit http://www.woodlandorganics.com The RAF will be supplying a Herc to fly out all of the kit and I am not asking anyone for anything just a heads up on who/waht companies we should approach to be able to help fulfil their wish list below. We have sorted 400 silva compasses this morning and now working on the rest. Be interested to know who I should approach to get 400 jerrycans? Equipment for DRC Rangers Toyota Hilux pick ups – Mark II or III (new spares/tyres bought from Milners - Hebdon Bridge) plus maintenance tools / manuals in French… Short wave radio hand sets / base station (they currently have a few Motorola GP340 sets that def work) plus solar panels for charging (cheapest in S Africa) Diesel generators – 3-5 kva is all they need Jerry cans – seconds fine + any ex-military items deemed of use in bush Flak jackets (out of date or unwanted ‘seconds’) Mountain bikes (adult size) (we buy appropriate spares to take) Binoculars Lightweight 2-3 man tents & sleeping bags, camping utensils etc Sealed, portable 1st Aid kits Small, hand-held compasses Very basic watches – few rangers have them Infra-red ‘night vision’ monocles – for the Advance Force Working laptops – plus any leads Digital cameras – plus pc lead, relevant software if poss but not crucial SLR cameras, film batteries Powerpoint projectors for training purposes Various sized boots (Uniform – funds needed to purchase in DRC so it is ‘uniform’) Many thanks for your time. Best wishes. Jack.
  11. But if I were organising a WW2 event then I wouldn't want post war MV turning up. Nothing wrong with that no more so than organising a Falklands event and having a shed load of Jeeps turn up both scenarios would be totally out of place. There is going to a certain amount of black romance associated with WW2 MV's as that's what we were brought up on. As time passes we will see more and more people using post war vehicles as my family has been raised on seeing nothing but the Gulf War on the TV every single day but then we are going to run into the argument of that we ' only ever see British military vehicles on the circut '. If I was a post war guy and was as unhappy as it seems a lot of people are then I would start my own post war group/club/movement and sort the problem out because I would too be suffering from frustration. But there is has to be a clear distintion for certain events as some events can't have the lines blurred.
  12. Dirty Dozen - tonight - ITV 4 - 21:00 :-D
  13. Welcome aboard Matt. You are amongst good company when it comes to LR's on here as we have some very learnered folks! Cheers. Jack.
  14. When we first arrived at the meeting spot I was greated with the usual abuse - 'got a new truck this year than Jack, where's the pink one :?' - 'what did you say about me in CMV this month ' 'amde on time this time then :schocked:' at this point I stood on the step of my truck and ask if 'anyone wanted a punch up then come and see me as I am in the mood' So another good Dorset event in Poole Park and the day went well, the weather was a lot warmer than last year :schocked: but then that isn't going to be hard - missed some faces this year - Oddball & Karoshi. In all we had 21 vehicles and we attracted great public attention and we help to bring another element to the event. From Poole Park we conoyed down to Poole Quay to lay some Poppies on the moment for the 'Match Box Fleet' (see picture below) which was the US Coast Guard Rescue Flotilla that left with the invasion fleet on D-Day and saved 1437 lives. From there we again went through Poole on the way to the Pub to chill out (in Jesse's case, warm up as he spent the trip in the back of John's Halftrack - complete man's truck). To me this is what owning an MV is all about, direct hands on contact with the public and driving meeting new drivers and new machines. It is a pleasure to amongst like minded people. This year I got very bored very quickley at/with static shows. So the good poinits? Seeing a first class Scammel restoration drive over from the I.O.W just for this morning - that is an amazing thing to do and the bad point? The Bugler blowing the Last Post - if it was me, I would make sure it was his last bleeding post! Hats of to Kev for organising another great day and to Tim for bringing his Scammel and of course to the hero's themselves - the Veterans. 15. Thanks John. But you maybe misunderstanding me. I am with you guys here - I too, get rather frustrated with the snobbery that prevails this movement and that is why I consciously called this site HMVF - Historic Military Vehicle Forum and not WW2 Vehicle Forum - as to me, all military vehicles are historic in there own right. After all these are essentially machines of war. Maybe I am saying that it is irrelevant bringing a WW2 Vehicle to a post war event and irrelevant bringing a post war vehicle to a WW2 event. I have recognise from the start that the post war guys in this movement are completely under exploited and again that is way this isn't a WW2 forum.
  16. But surely if Great War Truck put on a WW1 event then it would be rather daft of me to turn up in a WW2 truck :? Bearing in mind that GWT says that any truck post 1918 is post war!
  17. Thank you for your intro Will and thank you for joining us, you are amongst great company here! Best wishes. Jack.
  18. Here what you are saying Ian but......I don't expect you to be aware of this, but the first banner that we had up was all WW2 because that was the only images we had - we wanted to use the one with all periods on but Oddball and I weren't happy with until we had the permission of the owners of the vehicles to use their images. Once permissions were given the correct banner went up. It is a strange stat but I would say that we have more post war members than anything else. So perhaps we need to bring up the profile of our post war history to the public at large. That said and as I have stated on the forum else where that everytime I have attended a show with Hardy Ferret I don't get a look in......everyone walks past my Jimmy heading straight for Jerrys Ferret!
  19. Hi Steve. Could you give me some info on what is a correct 1940's A2 Flying Jacket and rough pricing?! 8-) Cheers. Jack.
  20. Does anyone know when this was first used?
  21. As someone pointed out to me the other day - that the MVT have changed there banner on their website and that 'funny enough it looks very much like HMVF's banner' Perhaps we may of answered the question - have a look at their banner and count how many WW2 vehicles there are on there. When we done our banner ages ago (thanks Oddball) I was very conscious of getting the balance.
