  1. Went to see it last night........... Hmm.....:undecided: not what I expected, once I'd grasped the fact that I was presented with three different time frames running concurrently it made a bit more sense. It promoted some interesting discussions in the car on the way home with regard to the character portrayals the ladies were impressed with it and the chaps less so.

On balance I think I have a problem with 21st century actors portraying people I grew up around difficult to define but there is something in the mannerisms and responses to situations that is not quite right some how for me it's not just a problem with this film but a number of 30's and 40's based productions Iv'e seen recently.

    Would I see it again........

    No :-X

  4. I just remember being involved years ago putting a Thornycroft Sturdy engine in a Ql, and a 5.1 BMC diesel in a J type also a Leyland 600 in an Albion 3 way tipper. Not at the same time, there were some headaches, long days and short nights.

Hi John all the spanner throwing has been done & Andy has ironed out all the flaws, I believe this will be the 3rd mating plate he's had laser cut so mine will be the 4th C8 on the road with this conversion ?

  5. Sounds a interesting 're-power' project to follow , will you have to make a adapter plate or is there a existing one by such as M&D ?

Behind the wheel - you may never know the difference LoL

For all I know there could be common parts running through from the C8 on to the Morris J4 / JU and BMC angle-cabs to Sherpa / LDV who in the end used a 2.5na ,,

Thank you Ruxy I was hoping you might post as I may need your extensive Landrover knowledge

This is not virgin territory, I met Andy last week at the Cobbaton VJ weekend with his C8 towing a medium size caravan & you would never know there was a Landy engine under the bonnet.

He has already done the dirty donkey work for me & there should be an adapter plate & modified thermostat housing coming my way soon.

Clutch has to be uprated to the larger series 3 flywheel / pressure plate & an Austin Sheerline friction plate to mate with the C8 gearbox, plus a new spigot bearing machined up.

No cutting or welding to the C8 is required as the Landrover engine fits straight in, the engine mounts almost line up but adapters will need to be fabricated.

Coolant hoses line up nicely, the exhaust drop straight down & mates with the C8 silencer, the carburettor sits nicely in the bay & the air tube tucks down the rear to the original location.

  6. What is wrong with it? I am just being nosy.

#4 big-end bearing failed, may be others & they are white metal.

Block corroded away wafer thin L/H rear corner which has caused 5 cylinder-head gasket failures.

R/H block jacket cover (thin bolt on panel) leaking like a sieve & had many repairs.

    Plus the unknown :???

All jobs doable & not a scrap engine by a long shot but a lot of money even doing it myself & time which I don't have at the moment & space in the workshop which I also don't have at the moment.

  7. Hi from N.Devon. I've looked at some posts before but met IanL at Cobbatons VJ weekend and he strongly suggested I joined. I'm 'trying' to restore a November 1942 GPW so will require plenty of info from members plus a lot of Jeep parts!!

Hi Andrew it was good to meet up at Cobbaton last weekend & I'm glad you took my advise & joined HMVF.

I cant help with Jeep parts but I'm sure if you post some photos of the restoration & a list of parts plus help that you require I'm sure you will get a response.

    Regards Ian

  8. Hi.

I brought this Albion back in 1982 from Mains scrap yard in Oxfordshire. I later found out it is the only one left out of an order placed with Albion Motors for contract 294/V/ 5103 - F.B.E of 329. Lorry numbers started at L5332821 - L5333149 and the chassis numbers started from 52591J - 52561H, lorry number on this one is L5333042 and chassis number 52523K.

attachment.php?attachmentid=127867&stc=1attachment.php?attachmentid=127868&stc=1 Photos of the Albion after it had been moved from under the trees it had been parked under for quite a few years - the camera decided to play up for the first photo. Parked next to it was half a remains of another Albion F.B.E but this one had the back half of it cut off.

attachment.php?attachmentid=127870&stc=1attachment.php?attachmentid=127871&stc=1attachment.php?attachmentid=127872&stc=1 On these remains I couldn't find any I.D for it, these photos were taken in 2011.

Why did I buy it well it looked mean and nasty, I fell in love with it.

attachment.php?attachmentid=127874&stc=1 We now come to 2014 and there she is on a farm Nr Wrexham looking very worse for wear having been stored out side for a few years. The cab had moss all over it and the chassis, birds nests under the engine covers and a very flexible steering wheel, if too much pressure put on it, it could of broke off in your hands.

If no ones eyes have glazed over and interest will post more about the work carried out so far.

    P.B

Your photos look like a mixture of the one you rescued & the one that's still left in the yard ? I think if you spoke to the owner now you may be able to rescue the second one ? before it disappears in the crusher or the earth.
