  1. Like it has been said before, how was he able to get away with this. Hell you only have to have a headlight bulb out around here and the rozzers are on you like a swarm of poop flies.
  2. I wouldn't by a truck of him, thats for sure..........
  3. The biggest crime here is the price of the digger and driver. £150 per day
  4. Defo AC/DC and the Zep. Mind you Brian May, Gary Moore and Toni Iomi now a riff or two. PS for a quite night in, fine food, fine wine and a Slipknot CD giving it large in the background
  5. Just looking at some Metal detector site and found this article. Sorry if it has already been posted. http://www.detecting.org.uk/html/Nazi_Gold_Treasure_Photo_Gallery.html
  6. Hello peeps, Over the last few weeks or so I have been playing around with my Bro's metal detector. Although not found anything in the way of gold or coinage I have found crude lead cast ingots and a button. The 1st picture is of the button I found, A few moment later and a few feet away Yogi found a lead Musket ball, could they be conected in any way? The next picture is one of Shaggys finds. Have noticed it has the same crown or Coronet, and ideas chaps. Right this one we think we know, its a Wiltshire yoemanery button. If pos could anyone give me a ball park date, the crown to me looks Victorian. This last picture I think is non Military but a very nice piece all the same. Any ideas? All the buttons have been found in the same field along with the Musket ball and what we think could be a powder charge thingie. Any help would be greatfully recieved. Many thanks. Tony
  7. Jack, Mark was remarkably well behaved
  8. Sorry Mark, had to do this mate. Monday and Tuesday Snapper joined the Plain Military crew for a bit of vehicle bashing. Great to have you on board Mark. Tony
  9. Right guys and gals, got some news about the Plain Invasion weekend and I'm afraid it's not good. The proposed dates for the weekend have been rejected by DTE SPTA, for what reason is not clear but Judy at Land Marc has told me it's nothing to do with anything we have done wrong. We are putting it down to the amount of training currently going on on the ranges, as the email states" area 10, 11, 12 and 13 will not be avalible on the proposed dates. The other thing we may have to think about is moving the campsite of the ranges, if this is there problem then I think this is the only way we can go. I am looking for alternative camping area's just of the ranges but this proving harder than I thought as most of the land around this area is owned by the MoD. I have a meeting with Judy on Friday to sort out some other buisness, while I am there I will have a chat and see if she has any idea's to get over this hic-up. So thats about it, I can't think of anything else to say bar Sorry. I am trying to find away around it BUT at this moment in time this event has once again been halted. I will post any info I get ASAP. Keep the faith chaps. Tony and the SPTA team.
  10. Great pics Paul, something saticfying about climbing over an old wreck and playing. I still get the calling to run over to some of the wreck down here, but 155mm HEs tend to make me think twice. Have we a banger, boiler and wreck tread on here?
  11. A few more snaps of the same vehicle.
  12. So is this the longest serving vehicle in the British armed forces? After much thought we at Plain Military think this is the case. Apart from some very old gate-guards that are on the MOD books we think this is the only one still running and working out it's purpose. Operated by 11(Amphibious Trials & Training) Squadron Royal Marines at ATTURM(Amphibious Trials & Training Unit Royal Maines) Instow, North Devon. They have at least 3 of these and are used for supporting amphibious trials in and around Instow, Braunton Burrows and Chivenor. Anyone know of anything older still working in the Army, Navy and RAF? Tony.
  13. Just a quick up-date, the invites are starting to be sent out around the local Regiments to see if they would like to come over to West Down for the Saterday afternoon and have a look around your vehicles. 22 & 26 have said they are interested to come over and 6BN are looking into there dates for around that time. Invites are also being sent out to 2RTR, 1RTR at Warminster, LWC, IRHA and many more. All Regiments will be warned this is a charity gig for H4H so get there hands in there pockets. Next year if there are any major excersises running we are going to work with WD to ensure that both partys stay safe. So thats about it for now, looks like you will be showing your vehicles to the local Regiments hopefully. More up-date as we get them, anyone wanting to attend the event please do so. The more money we raise the better. All the best. Tony
  14. Thought I would tag this link onto this thread as it has something to do with Salisbury Plain. From time to time we get over sea's troops on the ranges and some of there vehicles. We have had everything from Yanky M1s, Bradleys, 113s to Danish Eagles and Mowags. Just lately we have had a fair few Dutch troops over with Leaperd recovery, M577s, Mogs, G-wagons and tonnes of trucks. The Dutch gunners have been here with 109s, 120mm mortars and A/Tk. The belgian Army have also been here with a few bits M113s, and Volvos. Please feel free to have a look. All the best. Tony. http://plainmilitaryvisitor.tripod.com/index.html
  15. Nice one Lee, look foward to seeing some of his work. Tony
  16. Sounds about right, the Apache moved in on the target but never fired a single round the day we went. Just something I found on google. Fv432 variant with green Archer, MSTAR or ZB298 battlefield radar, later became Cymbeline MLR. Cant seem to fine any in museums though.
  17. Nice snaps Lee, what day did Harry go? I was there on the Thursday with a few Plain Military guys.
  18. Thats what I thinking of Dougy, the amount of 432s built after 1962 and only 150 - 200 in private hands. So somewhere there must be a stockpile of Swingfires, Green Archers and much more. I know there are a fair few on Salisbury Plain, sadly these are hards and in no fit state of restoration. An idea I have come up with is, as the FV432 is reaching its 50th in service birthday. I thought maybe getting as many different types together on the ranges for a bit of a shinbig. Just a thought. Tony PS Got you both down for the weekend.
  19. Hello chaps, quick question. How many FV432s do you think there are in private hands and how many different types are on the show scene. Tony
  20. Right after a long dicussion with the rest of the boys we have now decided to keep our dates the same as normal. Arrival Friday 30th April and depart Monday 3rd May. Three nights out under the stars on the British Armys biggest train ground. If we can get enough vehicles up for a parade at West Down then so be, but as it stands at the moment we are keeping the format the same, Driving, Daves brekkies and trying to get that trophy back of ChrisG. The Popham event would be fun but we really need to get some dates to West Down Camp. Like I said before all are invited and driving on the ranges is upto the vehicl owners. If you just want to display that is just fine with us. Once again I am going to push for tracked vehicles but this again could result in static only. So there you go, the date is Friday 30th, Saterday 1st, Sunday 2nd and Monday 3rd of May 2010.......
  21. I know mate, I know Chris at Popham H4H was looking at September time but the weather is very hit or miss around that time. I would like to move the Plains tour away from the BB so you guys can come over a spend a bit of time running the valley with us. August for us is the best time because there are no Regiments training, but this defeats the object of the parade. So many shows and not enough weekends in the year. Hell at this rate we will be doing a santa run for H4H.
  22. Right guys and gals, I have contacted West Down and have asked weather we can camp next year and have been told yes. I have not set the date yet because one of the idea's we have had is to try and run the weekend at the same time as the Popham H4H day. Because of the Popham H4H we have also decided to go for the same charity and try and raise twice as much between us. The weekend should give everyone somthing a bit different. We do need some advice though, First of, who is the best peaple to speak to about getting a big convoy / parade together. One idea we have come up with for next years is. Because of the amount of interest from West Down this year we have thought maybe we should go to them, instead of them coming to us. Sort of a parade if you know what I mean. That way they get to see your vehicles moving as well as getting to meet you guys at the same time. The parade would incorparate all era's WW1, WW2, post and present. If there are any renactment guys out there that would like to join in please feel free to contact me anytime. Along with West Down we are going to send out invites to the local Regiments that we have befreinded over the years. If a date is sorted with Popham H4H then the Sunday will be a masive convoy down the A303 East bound to this event for the day. Everyone is welcome to join in on the parade so lets get this one started. Chris G will have to give up the skittles trophy as we have now got a secret weapon. If you fancy giving this ago then please drop your name down and we can get some idea what we are working with. Date coming soon. All the best. Tony. Plain Invasion.
  23. So thats about it, I'm sure I have missed a bit here and there which I will post as and when I find the disks. May I just take this moment to thank all the MODs on the HMVF forum for allowing me to post the modern kit up. Anyone wishing to know more about Plain Military and what we do can visit my home pages. http://plain-military.tripod.com/ http://plamill.tripod.com//index.html All the best. Tony.
  24. The Army use all types of Helicopters from all three services. All the pictures below have been taken on Salisbury Plain and show the variaty of different types. (AAC GAZELLE) (AAC LYNX MK7 & MK9) (AAC AH64 LONGBOW APACHE) (AAC GRIFFEN) (RAF PUMA) (RAF MERLIN) (RAF CHINOOK) (RN COMMANDO) (RN SEAKING)
