try calling Billy at the North American Motor Company in Fleet for advice as I am pretty sure he has fitted these into various British and American cars and can probably help with supply as well

I think the french flathead should be a direct swop although I am not sure if it has an integral or seperate bellhousing also the ancillaries are presumably 12 volt rather than 6 and the threads may well be metric, the best place to source info would be one of the hot rod forums,

Many years ago a story went around that two tanks had been found somewhere in the Channel Islands but it turned out to be a misunderstanding the tanks in question were fuel tanks buried in a hill side to supply a generator for a Command site.
I thought all the Char B 1bis were returned to France save one that went to Bovington, at least all those that were capable of moving, there are as you know photos of them being loaded onto LCT-LST with the aid of a D6 bulldozer. I suppose a disabled -beyond easy recovery tank could have been entombed, certainly in the UK just after the end of WW2 AFVs that were automotively defective were refused by REME-RASC disposal units leading to the odd vehicle being dumped in quarries and even hedges.
There is very little evidence to what happened to the R35 SPGs although again there is some reports of them being dumped off Jersey, so possibly one of those.
As to the geological conditions, many Channel Island tunnels are into mud-rock, highly unstable and very wet.
Anyway look forward to seeing what you find, I'm so excited I can hardly wait- its better than a trip to disney land:nut:
Steve
at least 2 tanks were discarded in a Guernsey tunnel rather than being returned to France but were subsequently removed by the Upham company during post war scrap drives

I will bear that in mind but my main concern at the moment is to get the bike running and moted in time for A and E in june as a mate may be stuck for suitable transport otherwise

I have just made a start on getting my g3l usable hopefully in time for A and E and have found a rebuild plate in the toolbox dated 1952 and giving a reg number of 57 YA 55 does anybody know if it is possible to gain any history using this number

-Don't leave the soldering iron on the caravan step
-Don't proceed with the sharp pointing thing when the thought passes through your brain "if I slip this will hurt"
-Don't have your car keys on one of those inertia reel things, with added problem don't let your kids pull on them to full extension and let go (resulted direct hit on your pecker)
-Don't test 12v wire with your tongue
-Don't hold beer with your teeth whilst shooting
-Don't clench a spanner when dislodging a rusty nut
-Don't hit a tree on a motorcycle
-Don't tow anyone (most people have no idea on how to be towed)
-Don't sit at the computer like the great thinker ie typing with one hand and resting your chin on your other hand, elbow on the desk (very bad)
you must have been watching me as I read the last line with one hand on the mouse and the other supporting my chin

If it'single shot with a smooth bored barrel. It is Sec2 (Shotgun) HOWEVER, the BLANK ammo may be something quite different! Any Blank round over 1" Diameter is Sec.1 F/Arm Licence Required.
I had a German 35/36 37mm PAK. I smoothbored the Barrel & got it re-proofed. It is the only one in the world Legaly done to do so. I sold the gun many years later & it is with a collector now on Jersey.
I did four (Smoothbored) for A.F Budge when they were at the hight of thier career. And got Certificates of unprovability for them. Which meant they could be legaly sold on S/Gun Cert but NOT fired (LEGALY!)
You COULD get it smoothbored, BUT some people would want the originality, which I can understand.
These days, the security conditions for Sec.2 & Sec.1 are pretty much the same so it wouldnt make a lot of difference! Getting a 'Ticket' for a Large ordanance peice would be a lot easier than getting one for a small arm. Because of it's very nature of being 'Large', you cant hide it easliy! It is Overt & VERY noticable!
Mike.
as has been written elsewhere getting a fac or adding some items is very much a postcode lottery I remember talking to a reenactor from the midlands who had tried getting a small German field piece put on his licence but was categorically refused but his mate in the next county managed it no problem at all

sounds fair enough to me,I get much more out of HMVF than the MVT(no area meetings with our branch) so am paying my membership for a mag and having the forum is like having a load of like minded individuals about whenever you want so I will sort out my subscription asap

Hi Folks, myself and another member need to obtain new clutch plates for our BSA M20 motorcycles........ we are located in North Staffordshire, does anyone know of a good supplier? Thank you in anticipation.
Ray.:kissoncheek:
I always find a good starting point for any m20 parts is to call Ian Wright at Ark Motorcycles on 01822 840372,he is a well known m20 expert and restorer and is always very helpful
