stayed there about 11 years ago ,the first time we took our daughter to the island,I think she was about a year old and we got infested with ants and then flooded out but as you say the pub is only just up the road and the ants must be dead by now

great video ,it reminds me of an aticle I read some time ago about a reenactment of Iwo Jima which looked on a similar scale and involved 7 privately owned full working flame throwers, the Americans have some very liberal gun laws ,unlike here where you cant even own a pistol

is there much organised for this year as I heard it may be quite quiet on the vehicle front?
-
I have been going over there since about 1976.I was a member of the occupation society for many years.I also know some of the vehicle owners.Graham Sty,Dave Maindonald,Tony Chalker,Michael Ginns,Dave Acon,Ian Cabbo and quite a few more.My cousin lives in Jersey ,so we visit every year.I also know Russ and Debs Doherty in Guernsey.
I have met Graham once and know Ian Cabot and Micheal Ginns as well as several others from the cios and have a couple of other friends on the rock,we had dinner with FC101 Daz off of the forum on saturday night,do you ever go over for the liberation celebrations ?

welcome along Dave ,if we get many more from Herts I think we may qualify for our own section

HI,is it the one next to the M19 mortar bunker which is connected to the machine gun bunker? I am a frequent visitor to Jersey and know quite a few people there...Sparky.

Well after a bit f deliberation I have gotten a military vehicle.
So I am new to military vehicles and also web forums.
My first choice would have been a Spitfire but funds could not stretch that far.
A pilot's licence would also have been usefull.
So I have settled for a Series 3 Land Rover 109" (an FFR I believe) with the intention of returning it back to how it was in its earlier life with a fully documented rolling restoration. Not to showroom condition though, after all it has had a life.
The intention is to take it to shows.
Hopefully will be diligent to record everything for future refernce and aid to others.
welcome to the forum Mike, where abouts in Chesham are you as it is only just a few miles from me in Rickmansworth and it is always useful to know like minded locals

I remember seeing this in the yard about 20 years ago when looking for parts for a car,it certainly has not improved with age and if I remember correctly the yard owner was not the easiest to deal with

several dealers in deactivated frearms get most of thier stock from Russian arsenals and it largely consists of German weapons captured and refurbished by the Russians presumably for reissue to their homeland armies

PENTHOUSE
is that the book about military tents?

Here a detailed photo of the 1st Div. marking.
Note the corkstructure, made to resemble a few months of age.
Lots of re-enacters use a 65 year old helmet with totally flattened cork, nice but they weren't that old in WW2...
I like the point you make about the cork being too flat on many restored helmets ,it certainly makes me happier with the one that I did last year
