  1. hello,

im not good at introductions but lets give it a try :)

    i am peter

a historian with a great passion (and not enough space in the house for all my collection stuff :P ) for history,

particulary the middle ages and WW2.

i currently own a dodge wc52 , but i am looking to trade it in for a jeep,

i missed a good jeep on milweb yesterday, and the uk seems to be a great place to find one (im from the Netherlands)

so hence me signing up here to continue the quest for a jeep

    regards

    peter

    Welcome Peter.

I know a Nick Hendricks - also in the Netherlands - any relation?

Good luck in trading the WS52 for a Jeep... second person I know of doing this in a week - is there something wrong with having a WC52?

  2. With the exception of the beautiful Valentine in NZ being posted here, and a couple of others, seems like most of the threads here were started a while ago and not much new stuff lately so I thought I would post some interesting ones from FB because they are active and lots of new pics being posted.

Stug 3 ausf D in Kent, amazing job on this one from a shooting range wreck, very close to rolling on it's own power

Sdkfz 164 Nashorn, ( Netherlands) this ones moving along nicely and especially interesting as there's only 2 other known vehicles in the world. Currently looking for parts too

The 2 half-tracks Sdkfz 250 and Sdkfz 7 pulled from the chicken River in Poland. Really great work on these by a museum.

Stug 3 Ausf G Alket (Poland?)

The Tiger 1 Replica at the AAAM

    know of any others?

Can you update this with the URL to the FB page?

  3. The location of this tank was known for years... But it took it being uncovered after a storm for someone to decide to haul it out.

The scrap man recovered what he could and left the rest.

Now it sits on the edge of Delta Beach / Nartelle Plage next to the roundabout.

A pity someone couldnt graft an upper section back on to be a better memorial... What is there, whist original does not have a very big impact IMO... Though i suppose it is better than nothing.

  4. .

In my opinion owning a military vehicle and/or belonging to a military vehicle club, association or society is NOT a valid defence.

Belonging to a Living History Association is considered to be a valid reason for having a Section 1 firearm... so, I'd assume that this implies it is also a valid reason for having a Realistic Imitation Firearm.

My assumption - not based on factual evidence.

  5. Sounds like that DD Sherman "project" in India might be up your street if you have any contacts out there.. of course assuming the photo circulating is recent and the tank is still sitting in the middle of a field somewhere.

Failing that something from the bottom of a fresh water lake in the UK is also an interesting prospect.

Give Rick half a chance and he'll drain the lake for you ;-)

  6. Today. M6 northbound around 8am between Rugby and Coventry exits... Canary Yellow Dodge weapons carrier on trailer... No idea type or vintage... Looks like an interesting restoration project for someone.... If yours... What is it?

  7. Thanks guys.

The mesh is quite fine...i was surprised that it was still intact and undamaged.. I read somewhere else that it's rare to find the nets still attached as they were often removed post war.

Clive, do you have dates for the two types you have liisted?

    Thanks

    Richard

It came from a friend's grandfather's collection - acquired many years ago, been stored away in a dry dark place ever since... hence the excellent condition.

Am surprised we still had it on the stall when you came along - anyways... glad it's gone to a good home.

  8. Not a parachute - I think this is a red + marker for indicating an air drop target or helicopter landing point (I dimly remember partly unpacking it a few years ago when clearing my dad's apartment) - can anyone confirm ?

Looks very much like the Marker Panel kit I have - are there metal pins included as well and are the Panels reversible with White on the other side?

  9. Join MVT if you haven't already (will get you discount on insurance and better contact with other owners) - put wanted adverts into the Windscreen magazine... also wanted advert on Milweb (think this one feeds into Classic Military magazine).

NB - If you go OYD, make sure you get one where the cab does not have the gun ring cut through over the passenger's seat as recall this modification came along after 1940.

  10. Hi. I'm Dan.

im hopefully going to be in a position to buy my first mv by the middle of next year.ill be on the look out for a early war British vehicle Dunkirk era

    dan in Milton Keynes

Bedford MW aero screen version would be my choice.

Correct for Dunkirk / Early war

    Fits in Garage

Parts available - same major mechanicals as QL and OY

less than 3 tonne - makes recovery easier if necessary

Local (to you) MVT members have a lot of Bedford ww2 vehicle knowledge.

  11. The whole assembly is consistent with 1950s usage. The Canadian supply unit was a preferred option due to its lower power consumption on receive (using the vibrator supply) and it also allowed use in 24 volt vehicles. What I don't see it the top edge of the variometer mounting bracket, which should have the rigid aerial mounting for ground station use.

    Chris,

    Chris

Assumed likely 50s - have to think about what to do with it next as is a bit modern for my tastes.

    Cheers

  12. That's Carrier No.3 (or in this case 23), and is the "Truck & Ground Station". It's general purpose and fits to a radio table with a couple of quick release rails (which also incorporate the vibration mountings).

K9 with C42/WS19 is one option.

15cwt truck with "house type" body is another.

I have an installation drawing for a Morris (I think) truck, somewhere.

It's not for Jeep or Land Rover, as they used Carrier No.1 or 21 for fixed installations or No.25 for demountables with the variometer, aerial base and control box mounted on a plat on top of the set in order to save (horizontal) space.

    Chris.

    Chris

Other than the PSU which appears to have been replaced post-rebuild, would I be correct to assume that the rest of this installation is exclusively used in/with 1950s vintage vehicles? I also have a canvas cover which goes over the whole thing and is of a similar 50s date.

    Cheers

    Tim
