  1. that money got used on toilets ;)

but indeed, the artic trailer might be a more easy solution then a scaffold one, with a regular scaffold , lets say the Layer system you need a awful lot and it comes down to the number of people per m2 or just the weight of what can be placed per m2. i take it it needs to be accessible from the grand stand and a plan needs to be made to evacuate the allowed number of people.

then it needs to be certified for safe use and if mr Cadman makes a load of drinking helmets in Ral 6014 he can barrow my sign "helmets to be worn on scaffold" :cool2:

I think the only safe approach would be an earth bank - if clobbered by something large and green, it wont break so easily.

  2. I recall being told by my step father (now dead unfortunately) that there was a vehicle maintenance yard adjacent to the rail link between Plymouth and Tavistock which was operated by the US Army. He said that in the days immediately after D-Day, where vehicles were damaged but repairable, they were shipped back to the UK, taken to the maintenance yard and repaired... but... that any scrap metal - engines, chassis etc were uncerimoniously dumped into a dis-used mine shaft to get rid of them... the shaft being deep enough to make it too much like hard work for anyone to try to salvage the material post war.

Unfortunately I never found out exactly where this was!

  3. The continentals will be armed to the teeth - they dont care about the rules... but for that odd occasion you want a nice pic - borrow something from them rather than take it with you.

But be careful - last year I borrowed a "deact" from a French reenactor in Provence... which we were able to chamber and fire a blank round through...

Am proposing taking my 75mm pack howitzer... the paperwork for that has taken 6 months so far and still no news as to whether I will get the permits or not... without the correct paperwork, the Howitzer will stay at home.

Looks a lot like a Ford GPA - Amphibious Jeep.

  5. Some junk we picked up :D

Anyone know what the thing is with a shovel handle on both ends??

Yup - This is for dispensing Telephone Cable - British Airborne kit.

  6. The Army/RAF used a White equipped with a R1155/T1154 to talk to aircraft during the Market Garden operation. It failed just when they were under attack and they couldn't call down the rocket equipped Typhoon aircraft above.

Have you tried the 19 set group? http://www.royalsignals.org.uk/

You're referring to the Air Support Signals Unit - you are correct, they also used the White (my interest is Phantom GHQ Liaison Regt) and have trawled google looking for pics... but dont assume from that I will have seen all the pics out there!

Not tried WS19 group thanks - will drop them a line.

Though have tried Louis Meulstee, the author of the Wireless for the Warrior series and he's been kind enough to send me the few pictures he has... we think his are also ASSU vehicles though.

    Cheers

  7. One of the documentation copy companies is doing copies of

    "Wireless Sets No. 19, 19 H.P., 19/19, 19 H.P./19

    in

    Trucks, 15 cwt., 4x4, Personnel

    and

Trucks, 15 cwt., Half tracked, Personnel

    Fitting Instructions".

It covers the White Scout Car.

Alas I don't know which company it was and my copy isn't marked, but hopefully with the mouthful of the name you can track it down.

I have this one (thanks!) - there are some useful drawings - but was really after original pics from the period.

    Cheers

  8. Short term 'visitors' to this country often buy cheap cars with tax in the window then FAIL to insure them and just chance it until the tax runs out. They are not bothered if caught because they do not inform DVLA that they even own the car. If caught they walk away on a false name

A friend of mine's car is off-road being renovated - she has valid road-tax, hadnt bothered surrender the tax disc to reclain any pennies, or to SORN it - but... she's been fined for having no insurance on a taxed vehicle - even though its not been on the road, never left the inside of her garage and it would be physically impossible to drive the car on the road in its current state!

She assumed she was acting legally - working on the understanding that she only needed to insure a vehicle if it was being used on the public highway - this is apparently no longer the case - if it is taxed, it must be insured regardless of where it is kept. If off road, then it must be SORN'd if you plan not to insure.

  9. All

Am restoring a White Scout Car to WW2 British Army Specification for NWE 1944.

Specifically targetting Phantom GHQ Liaison Regt for this restoration.

Fit out will therefore be the Canadian WS9.

Am looking for photos / installation documentation for the Canadian WS9 or the later WS52 for the White Scout Car.

    Many thanks
