Ohhh a Crocodile, I got one of them just a mile down the road, ouside the southsea D-Day museum.
  2. No apologies Degsey, my piece was taken from Boniface & Jeugy, they refer to both spellings, but use Bederman more commonly.
  3. Degsey, I'd love to be able to say with certainty that it didn't happen, I can only say that at after some years of searching, I can't confirm that it did! On the airborne thing remember, that just because a vehicles bore the AB markings it doesn't necessarily mean it was at any time actually "airborne". Could well possibly have been attached.
  4. Hi Matt, I have an idea that the D-Day Museum in Southsea has an outboard featured, but in what role I'm not sure. Might be worth a call. It was known as the Seahorse 9.9 I do believe
  5. Hi Chappers, I presume in your question you mean radio gear fitted circa WW2, rather than post war ? in which case No, there was not a radio installation mounted in the cab. Although thats not to say there werent occaisional field mods made by some enterprising outfits. Both SCR 339 and SCR 499 sets were fitted in some Workshop Bodies as "official" gear, with the tel-tale MP 50 antenna mount at high roof level. Immediately post war there was a trend to upgrade trucks with radio units and this was particularly practiced by the French with trucks serving in North Africa. It was not uncommon for them to install High Power, long range sets in Cargo trucks, but because of the physical size of this stuff it was not usually cab mounted. Several cargo trucks in the UK reenactor groups have tended to sport MP 50 mounts with short arial in recent years, ..........perhaps one of those owners could bring something to the party.
  6. Chappers the Headlight buckets take a standard 5.1/4" sealed beam unit, with or without side light. You will have to modify the bucket to take the 3 detentes that align the glass, and no I've never had to change one.
  7. Chappers, there was a discussion some time back about the original fitment of a No 7 set to a 352, and nobody could say for sure that it was a WW2 practice. It was generally accepted that it was a post war practice and made popular by the French and Norwegians. Does this mean you've found some evidence ?
  8. Yes, this has been tried before, with varying degrees of success. The key point to remember is that your charger is giving out 25v in a NO LOAD situation. When its asked to WORK at a high level output, long term.... it won't be so happy. It WILL fail prematurely, and obviously and at the most inconvenient of times.....just to get its own back! My personal advice is dont do it.
  9. Ashley, its very unfair to judge a man by the size of his bucket. But hey its a beauty. And they say size is not important !! Whats with the "partner swapping" tent then? So it wasn't just an MG weekend then?
  10. Mark I dont think Jack means wheel nuts, as these are 1.1/2" i.e 38mm Jack If you do mean wheel nuts (outer) I have a couple of deep sockets, 3/4 drive for sale. P.m. me
  11. Saw this little snippet in the Daily Mail last week, (Mon July 20th) should be of interest to all re-enactors and history types: During WW1, when their Lordships at the Admiralty were considering forming the unit for women now known as the WRENS, it was their original intention to call it the "Women's Auxiliary Naval Corps'" Someone must have had a hasty word in their collective Lordships ears.
  12. Perhaps we should start with the organizers setting an example, just how many quads did I see with a minor in charge, and a red top riding pillion ? Not exactly management by example. But with these extra offers of help, it will surely be better next year.
  13. Its a swage line, to give strength.
  14. So if you really want to fire a blank firer, why not join and support a LH group, where there will be local supervision? Lets also restrict all vehicle movement to registered MV entrants. Then instill some authority into the red tops, let them wear "MP" badges and carry night sticks. Perhaps play Revellie at 0500, have a chow line and "Bull" parade,.............. and a 10,000 strong FFI line up. My thoughts are that with the number of people attending the number of "incidents" occuring is still VERY low, whilst each one IS annoying they really are in the minority. But I do look forward to you guys giving up YOUR time and helping to run nexts years event. Thank you.
  15. A little bit of Canadian , thats nice.
  16. Degsy, you're right. At least its got some sort of lineage, and GMC showed 'em the way. I can just think of so many better and more worthy things to save. Still beauty is..etc etc........................as they say. Perhaps my back still hurts BECAUSE of driving one of those.
  17. Last week it was a T34 now its a bl**dy old Bedford. The ONLY good thing about it is, the exhaust will fit a Jimmy.
  18. You applying Jack? I heard tell of you getting an M20 'cycle.
  19. So Mick shall I put the oxy kit in and bring the 3/4 drive set?
  20. Without xray vision you's just gonna have to pull it down and have a look then!
  21. Just how many wheels were smoking here? both sides, front rears and rear rears ?
  22. So could be a seizing wheel bearing then?
  23. Jack, what new parts did you fit during the resto? I'd start there, check adjustments, fitting and the likes .
  24. So you rang 01793 452222 .....and they said???? You did ring Didn't You?
