  1. Cheers for the help Rick, I'll start a blog as soon as I get it home. From what I can find out it's a MKII 4 wheeled drive version and the data plate says its manufactured in 1944.It has 649 miles on the clock so not done a lot.

It comes with a four cylinder flat head engine and 2 gearbox's (already removed) .It's missing the carb and the insides are severely rotted, but I can rebuild it with time .I'm going to contact the museums to see if they can help with drawings etc.

Most I know of are in museums but I think the running gear is from Morris commercial vehicles!!

Anyway I'll post here when I get it home

    Regards

  2. Sorry to hear about peoples problems ,I think it's down to the parents to a large degree and government legislation.

I've had several incidents myself relating to SCUM, I got an Armed Robber 4 years :) another incident I caught a robbing **** he got 9 months and his mate absconded still on the run and I've put two Robbing ba***ds in Hospital and got away with both. The one statement which has always helped sort the situation is "In the course of defending myself I................"I've been lucky or maybe unlucky to be in those situations.

Last year at 3 in the morning I was awoken by a large bang, I went outside to investigate with "Old Faithfull the Base ball bat"only to be met by a 6ft guy in a black ski mask holding a cosch which he'd just put through a window .He saw that his tool :whistle:was no wear near the size of mine  and took off,I gave chase but my boots came off as I'd not tied the laces . He was later found by a Police Dog hiding in the local park and he was 15 years old :schocked: :schocked:. If I'd have managed to catch him I'd have given him a right good pasting and probably been in the nick now I couldn't see he was a Kid with the mask on and at 6ft it didn't cross my mind,He got away with a caution and made to pay (parents paid ) so I was told.

The police's response to damage to property is "WAS IT INSURED"? We may send an officer around in the next few days  and they give you a crime number.

This country sucks when it comes to law and order BRING BACK NATIONAL SERVICE, it would sort most of the problems out. Just my opinion

    regards

  3. I've got your old GMC gearbox in bits at the moment Mick, I also recognize those Lawn mowers from when we picked the GMC stuff up.

My sheds are in a little worst state at the moment due to high work load getting props /vehicles ready for the summer season.

I'll post some more pictures soon of my other sheds and there Just like yours Clive :shake: :shake: :shake:

  4. I've had embroidery done for loads of people in the past,we had our large group logo embroidered on to the back of jackets for £12 and names on the front for £3.50,Names embroidered onto baseball caps £3.50. Logos have to have a proof made then it's all down to how many stitches the item take to how much it costs .

  5. Hi Mick ,I'd Check first the compression, the cylinders should all be around the same pressure ,my GMC was all within 10 psi of each other. I had a problem whilst driving the GMC ,it would drive O.K whilst slow then as you gathered speed it would slow right up turned out to be a small matchstick type piece of wood in the fuel line???.

As posted before the Electronic ignition is well worth the money,I couldn't believe the difference it made to my GMC, starting on the button and running much smother.

    Hope you get it sorted

  6. Fuel consumption at maximum power is 0.278 lbs per hp per hour (Brake Specific Fuel Consumption). Fuel consumption at maximum economy is 0.260 lbs/hp/hour. At maximum economy the engine exceeds 50% thermal efficiency. That is, more than 50% of the energy in the fuel in converted to motion.

For comparison, most automotive and small aircraft engines have BSFC figures in the 0.40-0.60 lbs/hp/hr range and 25-30% thermal efficiency range.

Even at its most efficient power setting, the big 14 consumes 1,660 gallons of heavy fuel oil per hour. :schocked: :schocked: :schocked:

  7. Fill your tank to the top, drive around for about 15 miles then return to the petrol station and refill, you'll be able to tell what it's cost and how much you've used to travel 15 miles.

Mind you it's an expensive exercise when a Jimmy tank holds about 50 gallons  :schocked: But a least you'll be able to drive to the Midlands to meet up with all of us Brummies :-D :-D

  8. Heres your answers :-)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-Day

D-Day is the unnamed day on which an operation commences or is due to commence. This may be the commencement of hostilities or any other operation. The most famous is D-Day, June 6, 1944, when "Operation Overlord" began. Contrary to popular belief, the "D" does not stand for any specific word-the most popular being disembark.

  9. I had a visit from the council with ref: to my CCKW being parked on the drive, the problem seemed to be someone didn't like the fact I had brought one and had complained that the sharp edges ie winch and bumper of the truck were too close to the pavement and may cause injury to passing pedestrians. The truck was within my boundry by 1" and so was O.K on my own land. I asked the council official who had moaned but he declined to reveal the identity fearing WW III would start and he would have been right.

I have been told that some councils require you to obtain planning permission to keep them on your own property, one guy I spoke to had a worrying time over the issue having 2 reo's.

I now keep both my CCKW's and Jeep in my yard at the rear of the premises out of the view of the jealous spiteful few.

  10. I went to the Dance on Saturday night and to the Show on Sunday. The Dance was great but the show was a little pricey. I thought £8.50 to get in was a little to much for a large military Jumble sale and £9.40 for 2 drinks and 2 sausage baps was over the top.I suppose thats to do with the time we live in it seems to be all about making money than a hobby.

I made the barriers for the MVT stand and provided my GMC for the DJ to work out of in the Dance. The highlight of my weekend was watching Johns Valentine come of the low loader....Just Class

  11. Hi Guys, Can anyone give me advice. I've been doing the usual pre season repairs, checks and lub to my jeep.

Whilst greasing the nipples I've found the two front U-shackle bolts very hard to push through any grease, whilst the others ooze clean grease perfectly. The nipple is clean and working and no air pockets in the gun. Grateful for any help.

    Thanks,

    Paul

Heat is the answer to your question,I've cleared several bushes and shackles with a little heat and some movement. The trick is to know how much heat ,a little but often is the key so you gradually warm up the shackles etc. It's worked for me even on the most stubborn of bushes .

  12. If you send me your address I'll send you a small painted metal sample.

Most military vehicle collectors who see the vehicles want the same paint colour ,It is a class looking colour . It's an eggshell finish, that looks wonderful if you clean it with WD40.

Heres a few pictures for you to have a look at

  13. I've taken 20 people out in my GMC before with no problem, the police even helped load them by holding the steps at an event.!!!!.I'm not to sure on the legal side and knowing the law I was obviously bending it. I have hundreds of photo's showing more than 20 in a truck more like 40 which I would present as my defence. They could argue that they were in a war situation when they were taken ,but as Tony Blair has said were are in a "WAR" against terror at the moment : ) :-D :-D :-D :-D
