  1. I had a very similar problem with a jeep but reversed to yours, would run very rough until warm, then run fine tried all the usual checked everything was in order,it turned out to be the coil, the coil had a broken wire in the base, when the windings of the coil got hot and expanded it would make a good connection. I stripped the coil down and examined it was a bit of a bugger getting it opened but found the problem.Instralled a new coil and it's been fine.

I've also installed electronic ignition on all my vehicles from Frank Jolly (Not so Jolly) engineering.

Had one of his units fail after 5 miles causing me to get my GMC recovered :evil:He would only send another out after testing the original first and I'd brought 4 units for different MV's of him previously No refund on my postage either .

They are still worth the electronic alteration and have made my MV's much better to start and run.( I carry the old distributor parts with me just in case of a problem).

Hope you get it sorted .

    regards

We gave one of our not very mechanically minded apprentices some brasso and told him to get to work cleaning the cylinder head :-D :-D 1 hour later and with sore fingers he said "it's a lot of hard work restoring these vehicles"

Thanks for the contacts I got from Rick I got in touch with John Walker in Nottingham and took a ride over to his place on Monday,

What a great Guy,very Very knowledgable and very enthusiastic to help. He cross referenced several part numbers and sorted a load of bit's out to help with the engine rebuild. He is truly amazing the amount of information he can reel of from memory .He has a very large garage full to the limits with Gaskets and vehicle parts,It's worth giving him a ring if you ever need anything for your vehicle restoration.

A very nice buy was an original interior lamp and oil filter housing.

  3. Undo the bolts and turn the engine over if it's got good compression then that should help free it make sure you leave the plugs in ,I've rebuilt a Dodge and yes they can be tight, soaking and tapping with a soft face hammer is as already mentioned a good idea to help

    good luck

  6. John Walker was very helpful, I'm going to meet him on Monday and get some goodies.

Does anyone know a good place to get a Clutch Kit as mine is a little rusted,

part numbers would help also .

I've got a complete set of manuals on it's way from Bovington Tank Museum so cant wait for them to arrive

    regards

    Steve

  7. Cheers Rick, anyone know of an Oil filter and housing for sale ??

I'll also need a clutch kit,(The fly wheel looks mint never used :-).) and a set of engine mountings to complete the engines missing parts.

  8. Hi Rick, my turn to assist :-) after rebuilding a Jimmy and looking at the ones on Milweb I'd say they are worth a go ,just for spares you could get more than you paid for them.I was tempted but I've got 3 and now the Morris to do it's not possible at the moment.

Spares are readily available and they are easy to work on. The split chassis is nice if you fancy shooting around the block in a Reliant (Robin) Jimmy. I believe you can drive just the cab around short distances without the back attached providing you've got the Jockey wheel assembly.

The CCKW forum has some nice pictures of the Airportable Jimmy.

  9. Rick if you click on any of those picture they'll be large enough :)

    I'll post more pictures soon

  12. This is the first of many photo's of what I think will be a very interesting project. From what I believe these Morris LRV's are quite rare so I'm looking for as much help as I can get to help restore this vehicle back to it's original condition. If you know of anyone with Spares, Manuals, information then please let me know. I'm in need of a carb if anyone knows of one and a full engine Gasket set.

The engine appears from first initial inspection to be brand new but suffering from be left to the elements, but it turns freely, all the 18mm Spark plugs have never been run :).I've got 2 gearbox's and one appears also to be brand new !!!! but well have to check it over to be sure.

  14. Yup that's the one, I also bought a spare engine in a crate,a set of snow, chains, two stretchers,3 ammo box's 1944 dated, large wartime camo net,and a load of tools cables etc. The nice thing is it's got a wooden steering wheel as well :-) :-) :-) :-).

  15. I brought it off a guy who imported it from Norway in January, It was for sale on Milweb recently.Came with a spare engine,Snow chains, and PVC type canvas's.

The paint will need sorting but apart from that it's not to bad. It's also had a brand new radiator fitted :-)

  16. Thanks guys for all the input, to be honest I've never dealt with British kit before,Basically I'll buy any spare parts that you think I'll need and you want to get rid of ,When I've finished restoring I'll gladly let you have them back if surplus to requirements.

Definitely need a good Carb as it's missing, the fuel tank neck has rotted away, but I'll repair that with a neck of a knackered petrol tank. The Radiator is also In need of a rebuild so thats something I'll need to look at as we progress.

I'm based in Solihull ,West Midlands so pretty central to the U.K If you have anything that you think is use full then let me know asap.
