    Regards

    Steve

  2. OK, I haven't got the patience to work out how to insert photos here so if you go to my album "Mike Gillman", you'll see three scans of Set 7 installs.

    I hope they help.

Cheers Mike, I'll have to get those books. I'm still after some info on manuals which cover the No 7 set and any other lifting equipment used buy these trucks.

    Steve

  3. Hi Jack,

Yes I'm happy with the site ,although I would like to see a military cross reference section. A place we can post cross reference part numbers etc and cheap suppliers. The reason I mention it is I've just purchased some kingpin bearings and after receiving them I phoned around with the part Numbers and could have got them a lot cheaper. The price for 4 bearings was £48 + Vat + postage, after a phone call I found I could have brought all 4 of them for £10+vat locally.

    Just a thought.

    Regards

    Steve

    P.S

I'm still waiting for my free super model :):):)

  4. Cheers for the replies

Incidentally, is that the Set 7 that was on Milweb for £200? If so, well done. I had thought about taking it for stock pending my next GMC so I'm glad to see it's found a good home.

Yes It was on milweb.I took a trip up to Newcastle for it ,The only problem was the rear arch had been cut down to fit into another vehicle..It was 165 mm shorter in height than it should be.I dug out some old stock steel the same section and welded it in,when its painted you won't be able to tell. :-) :-)There were also some extra holes drilled in the steel beam to fix the arch too ??

Do you want me to scan some of these pictures so my waffling makes sense?

I would love any info you can give me Photo's etc if it's not to much trouble.

The (French) #7 set we removed from our 352 did not have any clamps, heavy timbers fitted under the base girders and large bolts went straight through into the chassis. Incidentally it was fitted further back in the body than your pics show but contemporary pics show a mixture of positions.

I know what you mean about positioning. The rear floor has several holes in so I measured the holes on the Set 7 and then the floor and they were 1/2 inch out.You can clearly see where one was bolted in originally due to heavy pitting in a floor. Under the rear body there are signs were something was mounted to the under side of the floor.Ive also noticed 2 holes in the chassis in line with the floor holes to suggest that something was bolted from the underside of the floor to the chassis.??

What else would have been bolted in the rear as there are several smaller holes along the floor??

I'm going to have to raise the roof of the shed if I'm going to put the canvas over the top :x :x :xIt just clears with 1" to spare at the moment :schocked: :schocked: :schocked:

  5. Well I've managed to temporary install the Set 7 in the rear of the 352,What I want to know is what are the dimentions for the No7 set and what sort of clamps hold it to the chassis. Anyone got any photos etc. The other thing I've noticed is that it's much taller now than my other 353 (about 12") is this correct??.I take it that the Canvas which goes over the hoops must have been bigger???.

Hope someone can help with this as I'm not to sure I've got the right No7 set :? :? :?

  6. If you've got an old MOT failure sheet, that will have a list of items with a tick or cross against each one.

Scan that, blank out the ticks and crosses, then use it as a check list for your own inspection.

What a great idea...Cheers for that. I've found this whilst hunting the net

  7. Have you thought about...A DIARY. A time established and well proven technique.

Hi Karoshi Yes I have thought about a diary, but wanted it to be more like the military would have used. I think it would be usefull to have a log of milage and event visited also.

How do the rest of you keep a check on your vehicles?? There must have been a form /book for maintenance during the War years.

Steve a PC based program would be good!!

I'll ask my Mrs if she would try and sort a spread sheet out .

  8. I was thinking the other day that I'd like to keep a record as to what jobs have been done on my military vehicles,as my collection has grown I'm finding it difficult to keep track of the maintenance on each vehicle.

Is there a vehicle maintenance form or manual I could get or buy/ download/photo copy/Scan??.

As I get a lot of help from enthusiasts around my local area ,it would make it much easier if we could have a manual for each vehicle and see whats been done or is pending.

Anyone got any other suggestions as to keeping an eye on vehicle maintenance??.

    Regards

    Steve

  9. Hi Jack

I've always done my bit through the local British Legion ,they normally have a list of roads that need collecting from and a list of who's doing what and where. Contact your local branch and they'll assist you. It's great to take your truck as the kids love to climb in and have a look around, gives you somthing to talk to the passing shoppers about.

You could also ask the local cadet forces to assist you who are normally only to glad to help

As for dress code,I normally go in 42 trousers and a 41 Jacket with roughout boots.

    Smart and casual :-) :-)

Nice one Jack at least your willing to do your bit for the Poppy appeal :-) :-) :-)

  10. Hi Matt,

To be honest I dont know if there was and engine number or not, I'll Give pete a ring and ask him to check for me. I've got a knackerd block here with 6 new standard liners and all new valve guides and all it's good for is scrap. :-( :-( :-(

One word of warning about blocks,we had ours pressure checked but when they do it they compressed it in a machine ,which didn't show the potential problems, prior to the block rebuild there were no leaks around the area that failed .I think it was due to the block rotting from the inside out as the walls were very thin after we bust it open.

I've been told it is pressure tested after its has been machined so could be expensive to find out if the blocks no good.

  11. Might do, it's only a quick run up the A5 from me, is there something going on that weekend then?

I haven't got all the details yet but It's in the middle of Atherstone ,last Saturday in November and they have agreed to pay our fuel costs :-D :-D :-D

As soon as I know more then I'll let you know.

    regards

  12. Congrats you Lucky git 3 Dodge's :-P :-P :-P :-P,have you got any pictures of them Matt??.

I've just recently rebuilt a Dodge WC and engine and it turned out expensive. Ended up having new liners in every cylinder new pistons, rings, regring crank ,valve guides hardened valve seats as well as all the usual extras including pressure testing for leaks.Put it in the Dodge ran it up for about 10 mins and noticed water coming from a crack on the block below the cylinder head, this grew and eventually the block started to crackall over the place.I ended up getting a new block from Dallas auto's still boxed up in wax paper, spent 3 days swaping all the bits over.

    She's a beauty now though
