  1. Cheers Ross, Your doing a fine job matey, keep it going, will be good to see her swimming again. :wow: I actually have 2 rolls of stainless mig wire laying about, (got them from the garage I worked at when it closed down) I only ever used stick at college, I've always used mig/tig. But I must admit, I never knew stainless rusts! "everyday is a schoolday" I rubbed down my floors, de-rusted them, then painted them with primer that they use on oil rigs, then a good top coat, so hopefully it won't need doing for a long while yet. Will sort out some pictures for you. Cheers Shaun
  2. Hi DUKW, yes please some pictures! And best of luck with the restoration, from a fellow amphibian! :cool2: Cheers Shaun
  3. Looking very nice now, amazing how nice they look with a fresh coat of paint on. Nice job! :cool2: Cheers Shaun
  4. My stolly sides above wheels are ok at moment, but are slightly pitted, and the 2 rear boxes will need doing in a year or two, so I was thinking of doing it all in stainless plate? What you all think? :nut: Yours is coming along nicely, we'll all have to get together for a stolly swim. Cheers Shaun
  5. keep the mop wet, if you let the compound go dry you will burn the paint. by hand will take you forever, and also you run the risk of rubbing in grooves if your not carefull. use a mop its easy and faster, but be carefull on edges and corners, you will cut through the paint in seconds. but as i have said the most important thing is keeping the mop wet, and moving, dont dwell on one area too long or youll cut through or burn. wear some old clothes as it flings the water all over the place, and move other things or vehicles out of the way! or you will have a big clean up after. cheers shaun
  6. yes they did exist, civillian and m.o.d. as you recall correct, they were fitted with 6 cylinder engines, heavy duty suspension, the wheels were wider, (the offset i think) and usually fitted with 9.00 x 16 tyres. they could carry a heavier load. i personnaly think they are the best looking of the series landies, they had a big butch look to them, i will look for some photo's for you. :-D cheers shaun
  7. I totally agree jchinuk, the majority of folk don't know the difference, like you say, it's green etc. But not just military films, any film that portrays olden times, like when they do a 60's era film, and I see cars from the 70's/80's. :nut: I'm terrible for spotting the wrong parts in them. It would be nice to see some producer make a war film that looks correct, even if it means using modern cgi to help. But I still enjoy watching the old ones! Cheers Shaun
  8. She actually looks nice in red (ok guy's don't shoot me) are you going to leave it red, or paint it it's proper colour! :cool2: I used them in service, great bits of kit, will go almost anywhere. Cheers Shaun
  9. Congrats on the new project, I wish you lots of luck, keep the kettle boiling and the brew's flowing! You'll need them. Eddy, each to there own, but I think the recovery versions are better looking than the normal pointy one's! Cheers Shaun
  10. excellent David, that TK tank is just the thing im looking for, pity its not complete with sender, but nice find matey. will have to ask my dad if he can go and pick it up if i win it! (nice dad) cheers shaun
  11. Will have to look for a good cheap industrial machine then. Thanks for the advice chaps Cheers Shaun
  12. Yes I had thought about that, or even making one myself. Just thought it would be easier to buy one already complete with sender unit, I will have to keep looking for one, we have some at work in ally, but they are too big. Shame. Cheers Shaun
  13. They are addictive once you start, my friend is also doing the same restoration, his was sat outside for 12 or so years. It's completely rotten, but he is doing a amazing job. The early covers were canvas, then they went to a plastic type, I prefer the canvas type, I am going to make one myself soon, but the covers only covered the load bay, not the rear area above the rad fan outlet, or the grills at rear of cab. So if outside in rain the hull will still fill up. So if it's parked outside you will need a bigger cover to put completely over it, as in the earlier photos posted. Anyway good luck, will be watching your progress, keep smiling when it feels never-ending. :-D Cheers Shaun P.m. Me with contact details if you want a copy of the canvas cover illustration.
  14. Hi loggydriver, I hav'nt got one, I'm looking for one, I looked at various trucks for a good size tank, and the Bedford mk looked good for my purpose. I have a stolly, and they have a huge tank, I never fill it up fully, so run the risk of condensation in the tank, plus it's an old tank, and I think when I open the inspection hatches it may be corroded at the top half. so I'm looking for a smaller tank to use, that way I will fill it up, also it will free up some space in the hull, make access to a few things a little easier, (only a little) That's why I'm looking for one of about 150-200 ltrs. Any idea where I can get one? Cheers Shaun
  15. Hi all, Has anyone sewed canvas, and what machine did you use? I am wanting to make a load bay cover for my stolly, I asked a few companies but the quotes were totally unrealistic, so I'm going to make one myself. I have the drawings, (cheers Dave) I will need to look for a sewing machine, do I need a heavy duty type, or will the standard old singer type work? It will be canvas I'm using, and it has two small leather wear protectors either end of the ridge pole. Also I will need to set in the brass eyelets, so where is a good place to get them, the heavy duty military type. Thanks all Shaun
  16. I am presuming perhaps, 150 to 200 ltrs, also a good place to get one from, complete with fuel gauge sender. Thanks Shaun
  17. Hi all, can anyone tell me how many litres a mk tank holds? Thanks. Shaun
  18. Looks like it's quite complete to start with, keep the pictures coming, we love pictures!:-D Cheers Shaun
  19. Fv1609, I agree it should be laid out better, so you walk through history of war, as you said one minute your in ww1 then modern then back to ww2. And Steve I also agree, it's about the vehicles, so your idea to move the stalls away to another location would be better, along with the fun fair! I didn't realise the re-enactors don't pay. (do any of the organizers read these posts? And take note!!!). Cheers
  20. The guys I was looking for apparently had a foden drops and were also driving round with a rb44, they had some stolly rubbers I was interested in buying, but I couldn't get hold of them, "so could that be you?"
  21. Hey Tim, I came looking for you also, but I didn't arrive until later, every time you was away, not to worry I will catch up with you another time. Cheers
  22. Hi all, does anyone know if the gentlemen with the foden drops/rb44 are members on here? (I think they are from Birmingham) if what's there forum name, or if your reading this could you private mail me, cheers need to ask you about something you was selling, came to see you a few times but never cought hold of you. Cheers shaun
  23. hi all, been having a bit of a sort out and while going through some parts i found this, its a genuine unused land rover wolf (may fit wmik, not sure) screen cover. sorry the picture is not so good. so what do you think its worth? i may sell it, i can take it to beltring with me. thanks in advance shaun
  24. Looks like it has worked!!! Yipeeeeeeeeee But i was so used to the normal look of the browser i was using, this seems a bit wiered, i liked the look of the other. Or am i doing something wrong? Give me something mechanical, its so much easier. Cheers Shaun
