  1. I'll add to the list as well 00 EC 55 Thanks , Chris
  2. Ok I replaced the oil and filter on my Ferret, but now the oil dripps out of the bottom of the filter. Mine is the canister type with the groove at the top, and the felt "diaper" type filter. The canister has the hole in the bottom for the long bolt to go thru and attach to the top of the filter. I dont seem to have the same parts as per the manual. on the bottom outside is the bolt, then a copper washer. Then inside on the bottom of the canister is a rubber type washer, then a copper washer, then the spring and then the metal cone that fits in the bottom of the filter. I'm sure it was sealed before from the sludge, but now its clean so it drips. I figure there must be a secret sandwich of washers to get it to seal on the bottom?? -Chris Mk 2/3 Ferret 00 EC 55
  3. Very nice pics. Thanks for posting
  4. What era is your Ferret? Do you have interior pics? I'd like to see as comparison of what kit to have and locations. -Chris Ferret 00 EC 55
  5. I would go with an era specific beret if I coulld find it. The one I got from the UK dosent seem to hang or droop. I have been told the color for The Queens Royal Irish Hussars would be dark blue. -Chris
  6. Thanks for the links. E-bay is a good source. -C
  7. The nato size seems to fit a "range" of sizes and not really just a stock size like when you're buying jeans. Guess I need to look for the top of the range size as opposed to the bottom of the size if that makes any sense.
  8. The berets are new but I guess not real army issue. They sure dont have that panel stitch. I need to find a dark blue one anyways, so I'll poke a hole in the cheaper one first. Thanks again -Chris
  9. Im in the US so its extra $$. The pants are size 8 8595/8595 the jacket is a size 9 8090/1020 -C
  10. So far Ive ordered 2 1968 DPM items from overseas thinking that they would be the right size. I read about how to translate the nato numbers etc, but bloodly hell these things are big. I could get 2 of me in the pants. The jackets oversize too. Are they made oversize to begin with? I'm being killed with international postage just to find out these things dont fit me. Just want to look like a proper UK ferret driver in my ferret :-D Chris Ferret 00 EC 55
  11. Thanks for the help. The berets I have dont have any stitched rectangle on the front. The one beret I ordered from the UK has an inside liner but no area on the front as you described. The badge I have is a staybrite badge that just has a clasp/hook. I just cant imagine it staying put for long. I wonder if the soldiers lost them alot during operations. -Chris
  12. Really dumb question but how does one attach the beret badge to the beret? Are you supposed to poke a hole in the cap so the clasp can hook on the half circle board part inside the cap? Is this the English way of doing things? Thanks-Chris from the non-wearing beret states.
  13. I have the users manuals and the base, unit, field, and emer, in PDF. and parts lists etc. And of course I can pop on here when I get in trouble........which will be sooner rather than later
  14. Well Ive owned the Ferret for a month now. The previous owner said he hadnt driven it much at all for a year. I have driven it twice. Just a day before I was to change that wheel hubs oil. I didnt notice any difference driving as far as braking or pulling to that side, but again it could have happened sitting in the garage moving it a little for the hub plugs to get in postion. I have an article from the Ferret heaven web site for unsticking Ferret brakes. I'll take a look and proceed slowly. Thanks for the help. -Chris
  15. I take it I have to remove the wheel etc for this operation? Does this inlove bleeding the brakes also? Never played with brakes before. Thanks-Chris
  16. On the last wheel hub to change the outer tracta oil. I jacked up the left side and with both wheels up the front left wheel wont turn at all. The rear wheel moves the normal amout to take up slack, but the front wheel wont move at all. The parking brake is off with the gearbox and transfer box in nuetral. Is it a stuck brake? Or am I in big trouble? I did notice the front left hub was quite hot after driving it a bit while all the other hubs were just slightly warm. Also the manual is vauge on the vacum servo unit and what oil it uses, and not exactly sure where the oil plug is on it. Thanks -Chris MK 2/3 Ferret 00 EC 55
  17. Somehow I dont think she'd go for that. I had enough trouble getting her to tell me when the plug was at the right postion let alone push it. -C
  18. Ok I'm not as dumb as I sounded there. I know that each side is linked, I just couldnt find the "spot" for the jack where it would jack up both wheels on the same side. I just moved it so the hub plugs are at 6 for draining and 10 for filling. I will get another jack so I can jack up the front/back of one side. Hopefully I wont sound that dumb again..........but I'm sure I will. Thanks for helping Chris MK 2/3 Ferret 00 EC 55
  19. Are you supposed to be able to turn the wheel when its jacked up? I could only get one wheel off the ground and it wouldnt turn. -Chris
  20. Can I ask what your procedure is for changing the outer tracta joints? Do you move the Ferret so the outside plug is at 6 oclock. Empty then move the ferret again so its at 3 or 9 oclock? Or do you you have the ferret jacked up so you can rotate the wheels by hand? Should the gearbox and transferbox both be in neutral? Also I discovered the right front inner housing was bone dry! Should I check it for any kind of damage? I drove it after I got it for about 8 miles. I know its my fault for assuming it was topped up when I bought it. Damn. Anyways thanks much for all the help -Chris
  21. I have an oil can so I'll try that method. It took a while to figure out what the manual was saying about the level pug and extension tube. Question is how are you supposed to get an OJ spanner to hold the extension bolt while using the box spanner? Theres no room for an OJ spanner. Also does anybody use a thread sealant on the plugs? Thanks much, Chris MK 2/3 Ferret 00 EC 55
  22. Sorry bout that. let me just say I have uploaded photos to my album
  23. How does one get oil in the inner housing? And what is an oil injector? I dont have the CES one.
  24. Thanks for the driving tips. I'll give it a try next time out. Does it cause damage if you skip gears downshifting? Like if you find yourself having to brake and come to an unanticipated stop? I'll try and get in the habit of preselecting the gears better. Its the stuff the owners manual dosent tell you. Thanks for the help -Chris MK 2/3 Ferret 00 EC 55
  25. I would have thought the Army would be undersupplied than oversupplied. But it was also the cold war during that time. So I guess the story of bullet hits on the turret of my Ferret is just a story. Unless it was hit while sitting around in a depot. Is it worth contacting the Tank museum to see if they have another card? I assume they would have sent a copy if they had one. Bazz thanks for the pic. You look so happy. -Chris MK 2/3 Ferret 00 EC 55
