  1. :wow:Some pictures of the hiab doing a good job of pulling out some unwanted bushes. Alan.
  2. Thanks.:-D They match nicely, but as i said the van is not mine, unfortunatly. Alan.
  3. Pioneer "SPARKY" at HMS Sultan with their living van on the back. We are just setting of for Haven street on the IOW, then on to Dorset. Eleven days away. One good thing about traveling with a steam lorry is there is always a good supply of hot water! The HIAB on the back has a lifting capacity of 3 tons without any extensions out. If anyone needs a lift with something near the Chichester area let me know by PM & i will try to help. Alan.
  4. Hello Mike, yes all is well thanks, i didnt get in the playpen much this year, 4 times if i remember, nursing a bad back! The sentinel pulled the scammell round & up the hill a couple of times, (saves fuel :-D!) but it was so crowded this year i mostly spectated. C U soon. Alan.
  5. Thank you all for your kind comments, and i hope to meet new people at events next year.(or this year if there are any near Chichester).
  6. Hi Norman, thanks very much for that, i have only been on HMVF for a couple of weeks, and there is such alot of infomation on here that it will take a few more weeks to find all the "good" bits. (although its all good so far!!) Alan.
  7. Hi Richard, yes they may have only had it since 1960, but it is still the navys, and probably the oldest working (most of the time) bit of kit. PS i have been on the crew for about 23 years and we have cleared out loads of pubs!!!!:cool2: Alan.
  8. :saluting:HMS Sultan steam lorry. Still causing traffic jams since 1930. Alan.
  9. I say chaps, (& chapeses) there must be someone out there who has replaced the oil seals on the rear axels of a pioneer or explorer.:coffee:
  10. Has anyone found a more modern material for manufacturing the leather oil seals that keep the oil in the gear caseings? I managed to find some thick leather, trepanned the hole in the middle, with a mill, then used a hole punch for the bolt holes. 3 out of 4 succsess:), one still leaks:( even after makeing a new one. P.S. Are they the same on the explorer? Alan.
  11. As requested, more pictures. Putting a hi-ab on the back may upset some, but it works for me!
  12. I hope this works. Sorry for the delay replying, i only get a few minutes at work, or i am on late in the evening, i will try to post some more pictures when i can. PS thanks for the warm welcome!
  13. Hello all. I own a scammell pioneer "SPARKY" which was restored from hedgrow condition, stripped down to the last nut & bolt & rebuilt over 5 years. The winch was compleatly "kernakered" so after seeing a highwayman with a hi-ab on the back i decided to do the same, & it has proved invaluable, being able to load up to 3 tons in the back. I may have met some people that use this forum at Amberly or the Great Dorset Steam Fayre as i have been attending both for the last 5 years, the latter with HMS Sultan steam lorry, pulling the 1921 living van, as seen on my avatar coming up the "playpen".
