  1. And I though kick starting the elastico 3HW was a challenge! Thanks for the additional images. A
  2. Thanks Lex. Stunning! What are we guessing for the all-up weight? A
  3. Morning all. Does anyone have any additional images of this monster? In particular, how was the armour stowed when not acting as 'cover from fire'? All the best. A
  4. Most images of Scorpion taken during the war show crew wearing the Dan Dare helmet. (<https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205188148>)
  5. I came across this image from '82. I am very familiar with the Dan Dare helmet: but what is the commander of the Scorpion wearing? I am guessing an AAC Bone Dome? (Image from IWM <https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205189462>)
  6. Some interesting pictures (and narrative . . .) at <https://www.facebook.com/groups/367632986662004/?hoisted_section_header_type=recently_seen&multi_permalinks=7147803888644846> Posted by Michael Rowley.
  7. Another example of a concrete mine (with a somewhat different purpose). German Stock-Mine 43 consists of a small hollow concrete cylinder, made of weak cement mortar composition containing a shrapnel filling. An explosive charge of about 3.5oz was contained by the concrete cylinder, and the mine was mounted on a stake that was set in the ground. <https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30019953#:~:text=mine the German Stock-Mine,was set in the ground.>
  8. I am clearly well out of touch with retail prices for concrete-encased in steel; but here are a couple of optimists at work . . . On the upside, yours still has the carrying handle (uncomfortable thing that it is). All the best. A
  9. Morning. There are some additional photos and details on this post: < >
  10. As an aside: does anyone know the name of the font?
  11. I think this is quite an early version of the cutter pouch. Contract number SURV/416. The date of manufacture is given as 05/10. Flying kit stores reference. Later version - but undated - also shown.
  12. Not my thing at all: but I can see the similarity. All the best. A
  13. Glad we got close! I believe this image may be of models made for the film.
  14. But what about this one? Getting any closer?
  15. So, one of the vehicles in Hotel Sahara: not a Humber? From <https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0043658/mediaindex?page=3&ref_=tt_mv_close>
  16. Did one of these feature in the film 'Hotel Sahara'? <https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0043658/> It's ages since I've seen it so may be off-base. If it didn't feature the Humber, it should have!
  17. Through the wonders of google, there is also an electrical version - manufactured by C&S Ltd. Never seen that either. <https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285592660626?chn=ps&_ul=GB&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1n5lhi2dqSyCmNOpv3CQySw47&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=285592660626&targetid=1647205088280&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9044867&poi=&campaignid=19688986533&mkgroupid=146538074536&rlsatarget=pla-1647205088280&abcId=9307891&merchantid=114894391&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnrOtBhDIARIsAFsSe53LAA8JA1MhseMkqj26FIE779l9_T4fGID8eGh2CIMAdoOtIEbdXjsaAog4EALw_wcB>
  18. Like the Gosport tubes on pre-War flying helmets? <https://bid.candtauctions.co.uk/lot-details/index/catalog/88/lot/27109/1930-s-Lewis-Style-Flying-Helmet-with-Gosport-Tubes>
  19. Never had these in my Spartan and I don't recall seeing them in 1980s 432 (where shouting was very much the order of the day). No apparent microphone; so whoever wore them was 'on receive'. They look a bit dainty so, maybe the fourth emergency service? However, they also look relatively uncomfortable: so probably Army . . .
