  1. I have just got the report for my Snatch CAV 100. Can anyone shed some light on the history? 2003 - GS SQ AMMO TP - who are they? 2003 - BN BG - What does this mean? 2006 - BCBG (S) - Again, no idea? 2006 - BSBG 2006 - FORCE SP REAR - ? can anyone help on the details?
  2. Thanks for the reply. Very helpful. I shall try and locate them via nsn. Can I ask where you found the part number? As I'm desperately seeking a parts list. Paul
  3. This is the front door lock of a CAV 100 Snatch Land Rover. My question is, what are they from? Can anyone supply me a part number as I'm sure they're not exclusive to the CAV?
  4. Does anyone have a proper parts manual for all the items added in the desertised upgrade Or the military V8 manual? There are manuals on Ebay, but I have been informed by many that they are not up to much and contain very little of use. A parts number list and exploded diagram would be excellent. Someone must have one? Paul
  5. Phil is, yes. Fingers crossed. Stephanie at withams asured me the DSA MOD can issue the same for as they issue their cast vehicle. Lets hope so!
  6. I did think of that but Withams cannot help due to confidentiality... I think it's genuine, if not at least I know where he lives!
  7. I'm due to buy a Snatch Land Rover but the owner cannot find the disposal forms. This would mean I only really have his word and to register the vehicle I would have to go via the DSA MOD to get a new form for the vehicles age. I undertand they would supply a new date into service form and I could use this with the DVLA to get an ager related plate. Has anyone had to go through this process? Is this form different to the one Withams would have issued with sale? I'm dubious as I only have the current owners 'word' and it could turn out that it was not his, stolen, etc? as there is no V5 at this stage as it is unregistered. It is through Ebay and I do have the sellers address, paypal, mobile number and email. What do you all think??
  8. I still think I shall still make a 'balls-up' of it and end up with my arms covered and loads of cloths covered in grease. We live and learn and I shall get there in the end! I hope. If not there will have to be tutorials at the next show.
  9. Cheers John. The trailer we have is 2.7 tonnes, but! I'm still unsure what the V8 snatch weighs!
  10. Can anyone confirm the unlaiden weight of a snatch? Seems to vary online from 3005-4100kg for combat weight? A friend weighed his on a bridge at 2900kg.
  11. I tried sucking it from the tin and it only filled a few inches at the most. I shall have to look at the rubber seal. It's one of those things that has always bugged me that I cannot do!
  12. This has bugged me for years! I know you can buy the cartridges for them, but how do you fill them manually from a tin of grease? I have seen it done and all I can do is make a huge mess and waste grease!
  13. Problem sorted. Hopefully now I shall have the Land Rover on Wednesday.
  14. I've just bought a Land Rover Snatch and I need to collect it from Birmingham area and return to Sussex. I cannot tow a trailer with my 110 as it has a Nato hitch, so I intend to borrow a friend V8 Discovery which has the right tow gear. I intend to hire a 4 or 6 wheel car trailer which should carry the load without issue* I'm just curious of a few things and I know you all will be far wiser in the ways of towing than I. A discovery can tow 3500kg weight so I have read. I have the old car licence so I can drive upto 7.5tonnes with trailer allowance too. Question is - can anyone confirm the exact weight of a Snatch ( Minus the window grills and radio gear) I'm guessing if the combat weight was 3005kg it must be around 2700kg. This would make the load on the car trailer, which is 2750kg fine. This would bring the vehicle and trailer weight to 5000kg approx, so I would still be fine on my licence. Is this correct? failing that, anyone want to quote for collection and delivery at a resonable rate?
  15. Ahh excellent. I was under the impression there was extra bits on the MV one, for the trailer socket and bumperettes.
  16. Can anyone shed some light into the part required to replace my crossmember? Do the army use a different spec one or is it the same as the civvy replacement? It's a v8 chassis from 1990 on a 110. Nato hitch with bumperettes. Cheers in advance, would hate to buy the wrong part Paul
  17. Wrong page... can't seem to delete this either??? oops.
  18. Hi Everyone, Sorry if this is covered in a thread in this section, but I'm very pushed for time and hopefully just need a quick answer. I intend to take the 110 to France next week for a week and have read lots in the past about the export licence. Does this mean I need one as I only intend to go to France and no further? I would hate to have a run in with customs etc.. Many thanks in advance everyone! Paul
  19. OH GOD! Sometimes I could scream and bash my own head off a wall..... Call centres... AAAARRRHGGHGHHH!! I phone the nice Lady at FJ and ask the following: Is my vehicle covered for European travel? "Can I have your broker reference?" Yes, of course it's CPZ... "I'll have to stop you there Sir, any vintage policy is not covered abroad" Oh, right? I called a few years back to inform you I was travelling to France and you said I was covered for the duration? "Oh, we don't cover any vintage policy abroad" Ah, Ok. Well the new EU directives in place state that you get 35 days EEC travel with all UK policies, is that not correct? Or did I travel for 3 weeks uninsured when you told me I was? "I'll just check for you, please hold............(irritating music on loop)...... Sorry to keep you waiting, yes it does" So you are saying I am covered abroad now? "Yes, you're covered for 35 days at a time, just not for personal holiday insurance" The car is covered then, is that what you are saying? "Yes, for 35days" Why did you say I wasn't then? "It states on the shedule that you're insured in the countries listed" Yes, it also states see section 4 which states I'm not insured? "You are insured for 35 days" So, if I go the car is insured as per the UK? Is that what you are saying... ? "Yes" End. I now have no idea if i'm insured or not and it seems to me that they have very little idea. First call they said no, even when quizzed, this call is a yes/maybe. Anyone???
  20. It would seem not. Having said that I have been looking through my previous insurance paperwork and I can find no reference to them ever offering EU cover. This has annoyed me as I rang FJ to ask in 2007 if I was covered in France and if I had to inform them and I was told "YES" to being covered for 30 days. So I went to France for a few weeks. Unless I am now very mistaken I was uninsured!!!!!! I'm calling back now to explain my annoyance.
  21. I've just spoken to Footman James who are the company that insure my Land Rover and they do not provide cover for breakdown on the Vintage/commercial policy that I have. Also, which has annoyed me somewhat, they do not cover me out of the UK for vehicle insurance! But, in 2007 when I left the UK for France that was ok, now they are using a different insurance company I cannot take the vehicle out of the UK! Well, that's just great. I shall be going to Roadsure next year I think? Lucky that I checked as I assumed that it would have the same limitations as previous years. Disgruntled.
  22. Thanks for replies everyone. I've just been looking at Britannia and they also have the clause *repatriation up to glasses market value This is the confusion I'm worried about as glasses guide and the motor trade would view my 110 as a 1990 car worth nothing, but as a mv its far from it. I need to contact a specialist military vehicle recovery co. As I would hate to be stuck or to have the car written off. I'll be calling footman James Tuesday to see what they can offer.
  23. Cheers lads. I shall have to chase up footman James as I'm insured with them, then the next big companies. Should have realised RAC was a waste of time. Fingers crossed I can get suitable cover, I'd hate to be told my 110 is worth a few hundred and a policy is worthless if all went wrong. Paul
  24. Can anyone help or at least shed some light on this subject. I plan to take the Land Rover on a ferry to Noway(via Denmak) Sweden, Back down towards France and home. This is a fairly easy trip and I thought I had planned for most things, except breakdown cover. I thought this would be easy enough, but alas, it's far from it. If you breakdown and need the vehicle repatriated they work this in cost from your vehicles worth (trade as usual!.) This is calculated via Glasses Guide. Glasses Guide does not even list vehicles such as mine (or any MVs) 1989 TUM 110 Land Rover GS. So, so far the insurance company see it as a few hundred pounds. I protest on the phone that the vehicle is definately worth more, as I'm sure everyone does on the phone. They also confusingly see it as a 'Y' registered vehicle first registered in 2001, this is when it was cast from MOD service, so now they say they would price it as such, which I don't believe. I guess that when it says on the V5 - First registered abroad, like all my MV's have, it causes confusion on their insurance databases. I don't want to get stuck requiring recovery to have my vehicle written off and claimed by the recovery insurance Co. I would also like the reasurance that I have recovery and that they will understand that it's not just a 1989 Land Rover worth £500 trade, that Ex-Military vehicles command a higher price. Has anyone gone abroad with an MV? How did you sort the recovery insurance & through what company? Many thanks Paul
  25. Cheers lads. They've got back to me now. Was just a little concerned.
