  1. Lovely project Jack. Please keep us updated on the progress.

The hooks under the body could be original , if it has been in Canadian service , but then there would be as well fitments on top of the booms for wooden poles , and a structure on the frame for a canvas ,

The D-rings on the rear panel close to the tail lights also look like Ford CMP, although these could have been fitted postwar.

  2. I know there are more pics, but haven't been able to retrace them yet. Anyway, here's a start. The first two of the Bedford were taken in Rotterdam, early May 1945. (Rotterdam city archives) The other two pictures were taken in Breda may 2nd 1945 ....I absolutely love these pics as it also show some other lovely trucks like the Fordson WOT3. If you look closely you can see a number of Bedford Cantine trucks, but also the WOA2 and Guy water bowser.

  3. This is the first picture I have seen of one of these convoy vehicles in use in the Netherlands during WW2.

Hanno, I am sure I have seen a number of pictures of these in one of the Dutch city archives.....Rotterdam area (?). I will dig them up.

  4. Afterwards, I was told that it had gone to Holland. Does anyone know if it definitely ended up as part of the Pegusas Bridge replica?

One of these former "sheds" is displayed at the Wolfheze campsite, part of a collection/exhibition about gliders (well worth a visit!). It was only recently brought to the Arnhem area from the UK....maybe the one Dave mentions (?).

It's displayed as a Horsa section again, without the shed mods. Also displayed are several Horsa, Hamilcar and Waco parts recovered from the area and also a repro Horsa cockpit.

  5. You have to ask why?.......couldnt a transit van have been molested rather than a classic ww2 Vehicle ?

I agree. Maybe the reason they chose a ww2 vehicle is that it matches their WW2 warbird collection?

It's a matter of taste I guess....there are quite a few Carryalls driving around in the US with modified raised suspension, big boots and turbo-engines. Not my cup of tea.

  6. The Cromwell belongs to the Belgium military museum and if I'm informed correctly it will move to the new museum at Bastenaken / Bastogne

Actually, it's been in Bastogne for more than two years now. It actually broke down during the Bastogne remembrance in december, two years ago. Was than rebuilt over a period of two years and was finished shortly before the Bastogne remembrance last year.

The Stalin was also in the process of being rebuilt in Bastogne.....as was a Renault UE, although I am not sure it's the same one as showed up in Mons.

  7. The MVCG france website mentions a stolen WC51, 1 ton trailer and equipment. I have no relation to the owner or mvcg, but I think it's worth mentioning here. Here is the link to more info:

  8. Certainly a project worth following! The pillbox (the one which is still dipped in concrete) in your blog seems to be the one displayed in the Overloon War museum. They have a costemtically restored Staghound as well (ex Belgium) and a separate Stag pillbox-hull like yours (the same one???)

If I remember correctly these were originally positioned around Eindhoven. There were quite a few RAMs and Shermans used as pillboxes in the Eastern parts of Holland, some of which survive.

Good luck and please keep us updated. There is a very nice restored Staghound here in Holland as well!

  9. hi tom that's a nice F type hull like mine but did you say that you had to scrap the vehicle

Or did it end up in Kraliky? I remember seeing a similar condition Cromwell hull there a few years ago. From what I have heard they were originally CZ armoured brigade and ended up working in the mines after ww2....some fitted with T34 rims and rubber!

  10. Not spotted first hand, but just spotted some interesting vehicles in a report on today's "Tour de France" stage. The location should be Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan if I am correct. Forum member "Supertrack" with his Ward maybe????? Alex

  11. Good work Alastair.....engine looking nice and fresh....good to see theframe is slowly turning into "Loyd".

I was informed this week on the Loyd Carrier social network:-D that a freshly restored Loyd is going up forsale soon, if anyone is interested I can forward your details to the owner.

I have a feeling it might be a Dutchie(?)
