Only A Company had the Sherman V DD's, B and C were equipped with wading Shermans (Shermans III and V). All landed at Sword Beach near Hermanville La Breche. According to the unit history all landed at about the same time....the DD's were supposed to arrive first, but the lack of speed, meant that they reached the beach at about the same time as the LCT's carrying the wading Shermans.

    Interesting picture!

  2. Better watch the news closely these days and you might just see that Cromwell turret in action...welded onto the back of a Toyota Landcruiser:-D

Anyone know if any WW2 armour turned up in the fights in Libiya over the past few months, as we have seen previsously in Iraq and Afghanistan?

  3. Tony,

great work and good to see the cab is coming next.

Is that rear axle and rear leaf spring set-up unique to the tractor, or it is the same on the WOT3? Looks quite unusual with the modified chassis rails and angle iron to mount the leaf springs.

    Very interesting truck!

  4. Great work again guys! The fenders and brackets look excellent; very tidy. The sign writers job really does the truck Justice, far better than the modern spraypainted fonts you sometimes see on vehicle resto's.

152,936 views of this thread....Besides your dedication and craftsmanship, I also admire the fact there is an update every few days. That's probably the way all of us would like to do our restoration projects.....but few of us have the "drive" to keep the speed up as you do.

  5. Les's office bodied CDS is fairly late, judging by the split-rim wheels

And what about the louvres on the cab/bonnet sides? There seems to be two large holes on this example in stead of a single row of louvres....would that be early or late?

  6. Nicolas Leloup is a good English speaker, I must have been lucky!

I agree with Adrian; Mr. Leloup is a good English speaker and very open to chat about vehicles and his collection.

The M4A1 (76), formerly on display at the roundabout, was in front of the museum close to the Sexton when I visited the museum in 2008 as also mentioned by others in this thread.

  7. Excellent work again guys...both on the woodwork and the steering wheel.

The powerfile is a handy tool...I use it a lot to clean up welds (yes...pigeon poo) and or to grind in hard to reach area's. Haven't had any terminal disasters with the Powerfile yet, but did have to change the belt numurous times after working to hard on grinding sharp edges....with the belt splitting and slapping all over the place as a result.

  8. My thoughts exactly! A Grizzly as a 1944 vet?

I didn't know it was swapped for a RAM though; interesting to read the history.

Anyway....at least this "Sherman" came back after a trip abroad....I guess the Italian weather is better that the rain in the UK ;)
