Karl,
I changed the rear cross member on my Lightweight. You can get the military ones from Craddocks, I can't remember the price but it was about the same as a Civi one.

Here's a Lynx. It's like a Dingo's ugly sister...
Chris
I may be wrong but I have a feeling this is a Ford Lynx scout car ..........Dont take that as gospel though as I am only guessing

The Scimitar they have listed is actually a Scorpion. It looks awful in the photos, but like the Spartan will probably clean up ok. I'll be going on Saturday hopefully.

If you were to say vehicles over 25 years old are classic/historic then pretty much all of the armour currently in service with the British Army is classic/historic. The 432s were built in the 60s, CVRTs in the 70's and even the Warriors from the 80's are getting close now.

Well that comes up as Cover, Waterproof made by Hall & Watts Defence Optical of St Albans. Used by UK, NZ & Belgium. That's all I've got on it.
Clive,
The stores price marking says they cost £8.70 which seems quite cheap for something the MoD have bought. Thanks for the help!

Thanks Richard, I don't think it's meant to fit anything I have then! It does make a nice cover for a flashing beacon though.

Does anyone know what the 4V6 DMC relates to? I have a 1240 99 9614 207 Waterproof Hood & I'd like to know what it fits!

Where did the extra H come from in the title?

What kind of mushrooms were they? Was the KK still there after the effects had worn off?!

Mick,
There are a few Austin K9s around without rear bodies, they turn up on ebay like that quite often. I'd have thought they were worth saving providing they're not too bad.

Mick,
Is it coming out of the releif vavle at the top? Mine always fires hot oil at my leg from there on a long run. It is quite normal, just make sure it has the correct level in it.

Plans to build a racing car museum? His Dad has owned the collection of racing cars at Donnington Park for years (because he also owned Donnington Park!) - I'm not sure if he's sold it now, which is why they might have to move the museum?

Simon,
If I remember correctly the pack number was down on the frame near the gearbox, but it was a while ago and I don't have a 432 to go and check anymore!

Simon,
The power pack number is on a tag on the side of the pack frame. If you remove the 2 cover plates by the side of the driver (they're 9/16 AF quick release connectors) you'll be able to see it.
Number of seats, you decide! If you put down 3 and the police stop you with 5 people in it, what will they say?
24A is a tac sign, it depends who used it last. In the REME LAD 24A is an artificers vehicle. To find out who it served with you'll need the history card and a copy of the entry from the MoD computer. Try this address:
ES (Land) Cencus Team
Chetwynd Barracks
Chilwell
Nottingham
NG9 5HA

Ian,
They're not interested in selling it, it's far too much effort and they are making more than enough money for other things. When they did have a sale the stuff wasn't that cheap. Organising a tender sale, or a sale of any type would cost them a lot of time and money. They'll only sell it off when they need the space.

Mick,
To prime the fuel system there should be a fitting on the fuel filter union where you can pour some fuel in/bleed the system.

The Saxon ones are taken from the Defence Image Database, they're Crown Copyright. Hmm.

There are a few mistakes in that text, especially on the bit about telling the difference between Mk 1 and Mk 2. There is no mention of the Mk 2/1, which is the one with the slimmer NBC pack. The original MK2 had the same NBC pack as the Mk1.

The 438s were almost all converted to another variant, I can't remember if it was 436 or 439?

He answered mine instantly. Lets see if he pulls it now I've challenged him!

Paul,
That Pig was restored by A+S a couple of years ago. Note the Fox without a turret in the background....
Here it is again:

Ian,
There are still lots of Ferret spares which haven't come onto the open market yet, but they were surplused several years ago through MoD disposal sales and were bought by L Jackson & Co. A couple of years ago Jacksons had a tender sale and some of this stuff came up for sale. I am told they have quite a lot of stuff left over, sadly they won't deal with me or you and aren't interested in selling single items, or even sorting out what they've got.
Alvis were based in Coventry, before being bought by Vickers. Vickers were then bought by BAE Systems. The Alvis factory in Coventry was shut down long ago, and anything that was left is long gone. Ferrets have been out of British service for over 12 years now, and in that time many MoD facilities have been shut down or downsized. The Ferret spares will have been sold off at the same time as the Ferrets.
I live near to Chetwynd Barracks, previously known as Central Ordanance Depot, Chilwell. Lots of Ferret spares have COD Chilwell labels on them. Since I've lived here I've seen the place reduce in size by over 50%. Most of it is now a business park and housing estate. Anything which was in those sheds is long gone too.
I know you and other American Ferret owners seem to think we have vast stocks of Ferret spares, and yards full of surplus vehicles over here. The truth is there are very few vehicles left in restorable condition, if any. The dealers who had all the spares have sold most of it. Quite a lot of it has gone to the USA. There won't be anymore coming out so my advice is stock up now while you still can!

Ferret Gearbox Lubrication
in Lubrication, Batteries & Electrics

Mick,
You will need to put SAE30 in the gearbox, and EP90 in the transfer box. If I remember correctly Richard F mentioned that a few ferrets took the same oil in both, but I'm fairly sure yours will be the same as mine. You could try flusing out the gearbox, I'm not sure what kind of cleaner would be suitable though. If I were you I'd drain it, fill it with fresh oil, run it for a few miles and then change the oil again. Hopefully that will get rid of any nasty old oil.
