  1. We did not exhibit this year as the Bedford is being un neglected though I wish we had as there were no other RLs there. Nosing around it looked better with seperate sections and away from those horrible pylons. At least the weather behaved with only strongish winds rather than the usual monsoon or hurricane that seems to clash with Overlord. Oh and even better ,we both got in for free
  2. Done ,twice, pressed wrong button and had to do it all over again :red:. Glad they added prospective classics as I have two 1983 Range Rovers that suck heavily on my wallet.
  3. Hi, On June the 25th the missus and I are walking from HMS Nelson (navy) to RAF Lyneham (air force) via Tidworth barracks (army) in aid of SSAFA http://www.ssafa.org.uk/ . We are both in the TA ,REME 150 Recovery coy , and will be in greens with SSAFA T shirts with a support Land Rover. If you can spare a couple of quid you can donate online at http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/jaybirds-66 If not then if on twitter (I think I have got the hang of that now) give us some encouragement please at GlenandCyndi . Ta
  4. No but there is easybleed somewhere around that I have never used, will have to dig it up.
  5. Thanks for that guys, will look at re-bleeding and rubbers. Ta.
  6. Hi. In the winter I stripped the master cylinder on the RL after brake problems, the only item that needed replacing was an aluminum shim ,this I had made up by an engineering firm to the same size. Since then I have found that the brake pedal is very slow to return after being pressed, any ideas before I strip the whole lot again?. Thanks.
  7. Front or back and what year?.
  8. I have towed a caravan with the RL and not been stopped but have heard of someone who had a tool box loose in the back of their truck and were done as per carrying a load. I have heard of people bolting a couple of camp beds and a cooker to the floor and calling the vehicle a camper.
  9. Didn't mention the fact that we were not wearing a lot at the time!:cool2:
  10. When i lived in Denmark they were filming a war time story which had something to with a farm and cat,i cannot remember exactly what it was about as my Danish was not too good, but i do remember a Nazi staff car was kept on our farm. They used one of the farm cats in the film and i would either pull the car, again cannot remember what it was,to start it and would sometimes taxi the cat and one of the actors in my 1961 Series 2a Land Rover. Will try to find what it was about one day. Whilst i was in Denmark i drove said Landrover on the sea when the temperature got down to minus 28 for three weeks. Have met Henry Cooper, nice bloke. Have met and worked for the day with Tim Haddock-Mackey and Torquil. Both were very nice people and we were a shocked when Tim hung himself. http://www.worksopguardian.co.uk/new...ged.1672317.jp Worked on a farm where they filmed part of Treasure Island. The keepers cottage was changed to the Admiral Benbow . The locals were allowed to be nearby and watch after an incident involving a falling tree, which had something to do with me:whistle:. Christopher Lee was there and Julian Glover (who sang to my son who was a baby then and had started crying),Charlton Hestons son was directing (if i remember correctly) and the big man himself turned up one day. But to my regret i did not meet Oliver Reed who was there on and off. Also met Keith Chegwin when we did some filming with him years ago.
  11. The funny thing was the water the other side,(it was a sort of pond split in the middle by a small island) was deep but no so deep and i got through that but the distributor got wet . The right hand side looked shallow, but there was a hole which i fell right into, apparently there is a step straight back out but she was having none of that. Quick dry out and we off again.
  12. Well we came,we saw and we got stuck. (note to self," DEEP WATER" on a sign means "BOTTOMLESS PIT".:stop: Good job that Foden was there. Looking forward to the next one.
  13. I spoke to Mr Emden and apparently the rules are not so harsh for the heavies, just as well because i am not sure that there would be a safe way of putting them in an RL. Brought her home yesterday and dropped the roof rails and have given her a check over so hopefully it is all systems go for Sunday F.A.B.
  14. 1, My mother has twice been caught speeding in a 109" Safari. 2,I only discovered that my 1961 Series 2a SWB had a leak in the roof on the passenger side when i started courting my missus, i was dead chuffed how useful she was obviously going to be. 3,When courting in '86 i spent the 6 mile journey to her house alternating hands on the windscreen so i always had a hand shape to peer out of. 4,You soon learn what to carry to replace what falls off. 5,In my youth i put a loud stereo with home speakers either side of the cab and ended up double deaf. 6, You can also open the windscreen vents and get a mouthful of leaves, sweety papers and dust. 7,Especially whilst trying to disengage FWD. 8,Bonzo could also escape without opening the doors due to panel gaps. 9,After a evening bumping around the fields checking the cows in a Series 3 my daughter popped onto the scene. 10, Some of the surprise will bring a smile to your lips and some surprises will have people wetting themselves with laughter at your misfortune, you get a thick skin eventually.
  15. I have just been on the AWDC website and noticed that all vehicles regardless of age will have to have seatbelts for passengers and drivers, will this include the Conqueror ?. Have to now work out how to put seatbelts in the RL, Bah.
  16. Cannot remember the colour, i think it was grey. I do remember it had a Rolls Royce Eagle Diesel with a crack in the compressor. I think it was a 1952 one. I do remember i was bloody annoyed and the Bedford seemed a poor substitute, but since i found that the Bedford (Nicola) shares commonality with most Vauxhall electrics and she was a damn sight more useful moving us back from Pembrokeshire we have grown to love her.
  17. Just looked on the AWDC website and found it is. Have just rejoined after a gap of about 20 years, see you there...
  18. Is that the one on Slab with the AWDC ?.
  19. Yes, i am with 103 at Crawley now . The pass has run out so i have not moved her out yet, though may do this week, Roger at the museum did say that she could go in there but i have not been able to get in touch with him so she will have to come back home for a while.
  20. After putting up with the dynamo struggling on long wet runs home at night and now after replacing the dynamo with one from an autojumble that is u/s, i want to change to an alternator. Has anyone else done this and if so how did you get over the problem with the belt size in the alternator pulley and as the dynamo is longer what did you do to make it fit as well as the wiring changes?. Thanks Glen
  21. Ta for the welcomes . As an aside the Bedford was meant to be a Scammel Explorer . I was living in Pembrokeshire and there was an Explorer up for grabs at ,what could be called,a travellers encampment. I did a deal with this chap and when i went back to hand the money over he had done a runner. I think he got it the wrong way round. Anyhoo i went back to the friends house who had arranged the deal and there was this Bedford sat on his drive for sale and the rest is history. As an aside ,aside, when i joined the T.A. i joined as a specialist and was at that time the oldest new recruit at 41. They have put the recruiting age for specialists up from 39 years of age to 43 so there must a few on this forum who could join.
  22. Hi, I am currently living in sunny Bordon and am the owner of Nicola a Bedford RL. I have owned her for about 8 years . I am also in the R.E.M.E. T.A. as a recce mech and only joined Oct 2007 so am only just starting training proper with the Foden.
