  1. Hi

Apart from banging your knees on the pintle (one reason why I removed mine). The second (main) reason was I am sure it is illegal to have a projection in front of the bumper, can't find the regulation at the moment, something to do with bull bars. In a similar vein, the rear towing pintle does protrude past the rear bumper but not the bumperettes, as the bumperettes are part of the rear bumper system, this is permissible. Hope I haven't opened a can of worms.

    Cheers

  2. Hi

I saw this on a restoration blog (sorry I can’t recall the thread).

The picture shows some form ‘engine bay pans’. I haven’t seen these on any other restoration blogs. Were these standard?, if so does anyone have any dimensions of them ?

    Cheers

  3. Think chassis bckt could be to take the silencer part of the exhaust system, not sure what the cross member bckt is though :cool2:

Thanks Jeremy - That makes sense..

Failrly lazy weekend. Gearbox rebuilt, selection of all gears is nice and posative , feels good (now need finish the rest so I can re-fit it :-D)

  4. Hi

Firstly – nice restoration – just started on my MWC – working out the cab detail as the truck had a modified one and was interested in the photos of the doors

    Secondly – Radios

I noticed that you have put a WS19/WS19HP in yours, there are some installation photos and notes in Wireless for the Warrior (Volume 2 Pages W.S.19-75 to W.S.19-77). If you don’t have a copy, PM me your address and I will send you a copy of the relevant pages.

Also in Wireless for the Warrior Volume 1, there are some photos of installations in of a WS12/R107 combination in a Morris Wireless Truck. The WS12/R107 combination was used in many radio trucks but I don’t have any photos of this combination in an MWR.

    Cheers

Rear bumper to be removed and replaced with correct chassis extensions.

Also found a couple of extra brackets on the near side chassis rail where the spring hanger is for the rear wheels, any idea what these are for ? ,possibly pump mounting ? (I dont know how the mono pump is mounted, any pictures anyone )

but, found a crack in the gearbox housing :banghead:

    attachment.php?attachmentid=124793&stc=1

Forunately I have a spare gearbox housing, so all apart again

(I seem to be getting two sets of images, even though I have only up loaded one, wonder why this is ??)

  7. Hi

I have six 10.5x16 tyres that need a new home.

    Three are definitely OK

    One is probably OK

Two have a bit of damage to the inner rim, so may be OK for spares

Tread pattern are all slightly different

These are located in Fareham, Hants and are free, but you will need to collect them

PM me if you are interesed

    Cheers

    Richard

  8. Thanks Wally, most useful, at least I know what look out for and what size it is. I assume you plug it in when the engine is not running and the pully wheel on the front of the engine crank shaft is modified in some way.

Some photos of the mounting block

  9. Hi

Into Rubber this week (if you include tyres as well) :cool2: ...

Finally got the last rim separated after borrowing some heavy duty kit. A friend came and took off the tyres. All the tyres are 10.5x16 (three are OK, one is definitely scrap, and two more are possibly OK, so all/some of these will be looking for a new home in due course). According to my manual the tyres should be 9.00x16, but a lot of MWC’s in the pictures I have seen the tyres appear to be bigger, optical illusion ?.

    IMG_2098.jpg

Also made the rubber covers for the front and rear brake plates (the covers that allow access to the brakes).

    Part numbers

1048714 – COVER, rear brake adjusting handle hole

1048692 – COVER, front/rear flange plate inspection hole

Plus the first of the 8 shock absorber arm rubber bushes

The the multi layer molds took some time to make and get the registration right, now I have these I can make a few more as required. Overall very pleased with the result

I dont have that handbook, didn't know it existed, this will be invaluable for my MWC restoration. Do you have a copy, and is there any chance I could have a copy please ?

The PTO (minus pump) looks like this

    IMG_2092.jpg

the 'U' supports sit between the chassis

    IMG_2093.jpg

Standard PTO Attachment, with control in cab

    IMG_2094.jpg

I assume that the double chain drive drives the pump which I assume is mounted on tha near side chassis

    IMG_2095.jpg

The control mechanism sit in the cab, there should be another lever on the top

    Cheers

    Richard

  11. Thanks Wally

A copy of the parts list (if you have it would be very good), a separate parts list makes sense as there is very little MWC specific items in the parts manual I have. Is there a separate MWC users manual/drivers manual ? as the 'drivers handbook' although it says it covers the MWC has nothing about engaging the PTO, but the MWR is mentioned. I think that my tank was made by AP Butterfields in Ripley, but there is no makers mark or ID's on it.

    Cheers

  12. Hi

Just a thought, can you change gears easily with no ‘kickback’. I seem to recall (one of the Ferrets I occasionally work on) there was some odd noises which went away when after the preselect bands in the gear box were correctly set up, these can wear over a period. The procedure to do this is in the manual.

Also when the engine was taken out (a long time ago) we found odd spanners, spare nuts and bolts, and some coins. As noted if you have anything in the floorpan, items like this may well have moved and are now rattling around, the noise level/tone will change with the gear selected and engine speed.

Also as noted drain the oil and look for any debris (hopefully you don’t find any). If you find loads of bits, I wouldn’t run it in case you do any further damage

    Good luck

    Richard

  13. Hi

Has anyone got some photos, dimensions etc of the following power pump items on an MWC

    1. The lever mechanism in the cab that operates the PTO
    2. The Pump itself and how it is attached to the chassis, (including the chain drive)
    3. Where the piping goes
    4. The make and model of the pump

I have the details of the PTO, the prop shaft , the two support brackets and the chain drive gears on the drive shaft.

    Cheers

  14. Hi

    Thanks Jeremy and Danny...

There are no data plates on the vehicle (I think that they were removed a long time ago :()

I did find the remains of the chassis number stamped on the frame between the passenger side door steps which were MWC56??8. So could be one of 100 vehicles (56008 through 56998). If records exist it may be possible to determine which one my vehicle actually is as there were much fewer MWC's produced than MWD's. In the mean time I will be having another look at the chassis number to see if I can read what the missing digits are

    Cheers

    Richard

  15. Hi

I am currently restoring a Bedford MWC...

The chassis number is MWC56??8, so it was built in early 1944

Still trying to read two numbers, this might be possible with better lighting.

Is there any way I can possibly find the contract number and Z number ?

Any help would be much appreciated

    Cheers

    Richard
