Warner Electric trailer brakes on British Towed guns
Tobin replied to Tobin's topic in Artillery & Anti-Tank Weapons
Many thanks, that makes good sense. I will check it and report! T -
Hi, I am commissioning the Warner Electric brakes on my 17 Pounder AT gun in prep for XXX Corps. These brakes were also fitted I believe to 5.5" guns and 7.2" Howitzers. Does anyone know what voltage they run on. The Portee is 12v with the Warner voltage dropper to 6V but I am getting 12v at the brake units despite the voltage dropper. Is this correct or not?

My Morris CDFW (1940) has a what appears to be a Morris EB engine. The C4 has an EA engine and the two seem very similar if not almost identical. Does anyone know the differences and why? and does anyone have an engine manual that I might copy to use for a rebuild? Rgds Tobin

question Large caliber ammunition
Tobin replied to wexford sally's topic in Artillery & Anti-Tank Weapons
Nordenfelt 1" sub calibre ammunition. This was used by many larger ships to do target practice using their bigger guns but without using big ammo. The gun slotted into the breech of the main gun and it could then be aimed and fired up to about a mile away and could hit small targets. The roand is a soft lead slug, often with a slightly dished base. Quite common wherever the navy has been parked in the past but still very interesting! -
Hi Rick, Did you find an engine, I may have one if interested. PM me Tobin

Hi, The charge was 1/2lb of pyrodex fired by a shotgun primer with cardboard and a twist of green grass as wadding. The wadding is all important to get a good bang! I will ask Mr Shopland to post some more pictures of the event as it was a really good weekend, relaxed, great company and lots to see! More firing pics below but poor quality I am afraid.

Can anyone help with Italian campaign FAC vehicle markings. I have not been able to find any pictures. It seems that the Rover system was in use by the RAF at the time with a ground and air controllers calling Tac Fighters in from a "taxi rank" (The name came later I believe) but what units were doing this work and how would their vehicles have been marked. I am guessing roundel on bonnet, AF and maybe wing marking and possibly "FAC"? HELP!! Rgds Tobin

Tobin replied to Ian L's topic in British Vehicles
Hi Ian, Theres a place in Gawcot that did the Humber for me. Takes ten days but drop them off and I will get them done if you like. The 8 for the Humber cost about £120 with soft linings bonded. Tobin -

Hi Chaps, Thanks for that. The orignal plan was to truck them down and drive back but the costs seem to vary dramatically. Time is our enemy as we have a fortnight for the whole trip. I will look at the ferries though. Many thanks Tobin

Hi Ian, Anything written under the cap?. Common to find rude messages for the CSM as on inspectin a bastard would pop them off and check for internal cleanliness, a rude message was non attributable. I have some spares if you need one. Why were some of the wheels green, I have a green one and a couple of brown ones. Shout if you need any spares but you seem to have most of what you need. Best regards Tobin
