  1. I have had the below pictured decals reproduced. If you are interested, please PM for pricing. These are for the FRAM "SENIOR" filter. John Gott
  2. The sad thing about all this work, is that when the airtanks and cab go back on, you will not see any of this, but at least I know it is all clean and tidy under the cab.
  3. Spent the day reassembling the parking brake and putting the shift tower back on. While everything was apart I cleaned up the treansfer case. Found a rebuild tag from 1966 on the top of the transmission. Can some decipher it?
  4. I got the NOS fuel back from the rebuilders who installed and ethonal compatible diaphram. Gotta love this fuel in this country. I detailed the oil fill cap and the igniton wire protector and installed NOS wires.
  5. I moved onto the shifter levers, what a mess with the grease. Soaking in gas, scraping, back to soaking and scraping and finally to the blast cabinet and painting. Before and after pictures.................
  6. I have finished rebuilding the TRU STOP parking brake. I removed 65 years of accumilated grease from the unit. I had it soaking for a day in gas and then bead blasted and painted it. Everything moves freely now.
  7. The oil filter assembly is finally back togather, just waiting for the decals to arrive
  8. Adrian; look at my restoration blog, there are several pictures. I will lok up the paint color number I used, I know it was KRYLON brand universal industrial grey. If you need furthre pictures let me know. John
  9. Adrian; my was an industrial grey color. John
  10. I have removed the oil filter assembly, torn it down for cleaning and repainting. In the pictures, you will see the viscometer assembly. If your truck has one, I recommend taking it apart per the TM and clean the screen, mine was filled with sludge. The last 2 pictrures are of my NOS quartermaster corp "water pump" grease gun that I just finished cleaning all the cosmoline off of it. John
  11. NOS Let me know how they turn out. I sent Robert 2 additional data plates that I removed from my rear axles referecne the TIMKEN axles. When I get them, I will post pictures. John
  12. Robert Dudkowski is the gentelman's name who makes the data plates. This is his e mail horne@pozcta.fm John Gott
  13. Marcus; please refer to post(s) 24 and 25 on page 3 of this blog, I got them got them from Lt. Horne (his ebay ID), When I find his e mail I will PM you . John
  14. In preparing the wrecker frame for blasting, I removed the oxygen bottle from it's bracket. After taken a few layers of paint off the bottle I found the following information stamped on it On the top US ARMY AIR FORCES opposite side was stamped 11-44 there were several date stamps put on over the years when the bottle was pressure checked, last itime it was checked was in 1983. you never know what you will find under all that paint, the original color was yellow. I cannot verify if this bottle has spent its whole life with my wrecker , but is was a great find.
  15. Adrian; As far as I can tell it is the cab's first restoration. I spoke to Jim Clark today via phone and my repair pieces are being fabricated. I have spent the past 2 days media blasting the wrecker frame and the left frame rail. The first 2 pics show the wrecker frame and the 3rd shows "tennesee USA" on teh steel frame of the wrecker body
  16. After a total of 8 hours, over 3 days, I finally got the seat base out of the cab. Jim Clark's shop is fabriacting some new panels for me. A very pleasant fellow to deal with I must say. Pictres attached of my handy work.
  17. It would not be a conversion, there were several tractors made, one of the rare configurations of the Chevy. The trailer brakes were electric, the control was mounted on the frame and was activated by a rod that was attached to the push rod going to the master cylinder, and the rheostat was in rte dash. John Gott
  18. Adrian; I just will put in repair sections.
  19. Adrian; I have posted pictures of my cab. I think some of my confusion came from the fact that I had not realized that you had removed your seat bases. My are still attached, so you could advise f they cab interior is the same. You will see the usual rot at the bottom of teh A pillares and the lower rear section of teh cab. John
  20. Adrian; I learn something new everyday on this forum. By looking at your pictures I see there is a differance in the cab design of the 980 versus the 969A. The floor design is differant. When I get to point of working on my cab, I will post a picture of the bottom side of my cab so you can see. I am experiencing the same rust issues you are dealing with, John
  21. Thanks, however we got some snow today and more is expected for the weekend, hopefully it will all be melted by Sunday. John
  22. I had posted pictrues of the brake chamber rebuild under the wrecker forum but I will post them here to keep things consistent. As you can , not as bad as Normans's on his Ward, but still in need of attention.
  23. I am using a combination of media blasting and paint stripper to scrape the paint off, all 5 layers of it. I disassembled the glad hand couplers (they were full of rust) and I was able to free up the shut off valves. I will post pics after the paint dries
  24. This past weekend I was able to take out the old wiring harnesss (or what was left of it) and take off all of the airbrake lines from the rear of the frame. I got all the new tires mounted on my repainted wheels, with the help of my 10 year old son, he enjoyed filling them up with air. In the first pic you will see a before and after picture of my efforts to clean up the frame. The second piture is of the stripped frame and the last are of teh tires being mounted.
