  1. I have a Scammell Pioneer Tank transporter (30 ton) which like most of them out there does not have the 5th wheel coupling still in place. Does anyone out there know of or have any plans for the correct 5th wheel coupling which is unique to this vehicle. I am thinking of getting one made up but need to have some plans to work from. I spoke to several people on the Scammell register but with no luck , and also seen the bottom half of the one at Cobbaton in Devon . Can anyone out there help ???
  2. I am trying to find the location of the chassis number on my Austin K5 GS, I have checked for the usual Austin Chassis Number plate but can't even find the holes where the plate had been . Is the chassis no stamped into the chassis on the K5 ?
  3. I have a K6 gantry . Let me know what info you need I may be able to supply photos
  4. Paul Yes I would be definitely interested to see the pics you took of the pioneer if for no other reason to see if i missed anything . If you want to post them on HMVF that would be good or if you want to send them to me and i post them that would be good too.
  5. As promised some cab interior pictures . The lorry is currently covered by a tarpaulin hence the slightly odd lighting in the pictures.
  6. Alright I admit it I have been doing a little bit of work on the Scammell . So far I have cleaned the cab out and done a bit of checking to see how much it will need to get running . The Injector pump top rail is seized so I going to give the engine a quick clean off and then take the pump off so I can have a look at it on the bench. Thats a job for next week. I have some interior pictures to post which i will do later
  7. Chris I would have liked to have driven it out but unfortunately what the pictures don't show is the brakes were seized on (now sorted out) and the marks on the ground as it was pulled out.If it hadn't been for the loader driver not wanting to give up it would still be in the hedge . I will try and get some cab interior pictures over the weekend and post them . cheers Richard
  8. The pioneer was used by Forrest amusements from the time it was released from the Army. The long term plan is to make it military again but that is down the line
  9. It only had one owner since release from the Army it finished its working life in Dartford
  10. I think the major restoration will take some time(So Andy is pretty safe) I have some other vehicles ahead in the line . Initial plans are to get it running and moving under its own steam . I may then rally it for a couple of seasons as is whilst I try and collect some bits e.g. track box and front and rear tow springs .
  11. The engine is definitely free which is a good start. The cab is in original condition(if a bit flakey) even down to rifle clips. It seems to have been in army service pretty late as there is a rebuild plate of 1954 on it
  12. As I am sure you have guessed its a Scammell Pioneer its a 1943 30 ton tank transporter . I went to recover it last weekend . The previous owner had driven it to its last resting place 20 years ago and it hadn't turned a wheel since
  13. Well after a lot of hunting round I have finally gone and done it . Can you guess what I have gone and bought. 1st picture is the hedge I had to take down to get it out. 2nd picture gives you a better idea of what the vehicle actually is.
  14. Radek Well done glad you managed to save her. Richard
  15. I am looking at getting the wood planking for the back body of my Scammell Pioneer recovery as it currently has none . I know the planking is tongue and groove but what size should it be ie thickness and width . Can anyone out there help before I spend a load of money on wood. Thanks Richard
  16. Another K not posted is a K5 please see attached photo of the one I own shortly after I bought it.
  17. I used to own a Matador my interior layout was slightly different but appeared to be original . The spare wheel was mounted on the centre post behind the rear of the back seat please see photo
  18. A long time a ago I was offered this rather sad looking tank transporter. It ended its working life as a snow plough for a west country borough council. I tried to go and see it but before I could it was apparently sold anyone know what happened to it?
  19. Thanks all for the info I will do a bit more phoning round see what else I can get. I will let you know who I end up with. Richard
  20. For many years I have been insured through Roadsure (now Premium Choice) I have received my premium for 2009 and it has gone up almost £100 even though my sums insured have gone down. I have spoken to them but can't do anything about the premium . I have also spoken to Footman James who significantly reduce the premium but can't insure my trailers . Can anyone recommend any other people I can get a quote from. Cheers
  21. I am currently working on tidying up my Austin K5 cab . I removed the windscreens and frames only to discover they were rotten . After much searching round I have not been able to trace the frame profile to get them replaced . Does anyone out there know of anyone out there who does metal windscreen surrounds . Thanks Richard Hughes
  22. That ties in with what I got told when I bought the Pioneer . Just interesting that in the space of about 10 years the back body wood work was removed and most of the steel was cut (now replaced) . Thanks for the info Richard
  23. I managed to find a copy photo of my Pioneer when I first got it (about 10 years ago) . Just one question to antarmike roughly when was your photo taken of the Ed Bolton Pioneer ? Thanks Richard Hughes
  24. The photo of the Ed Bolton Pioneer posted by AntarMike looks suspicously like my one did when I first got it (with alot more rust) The colour scheme and mods eg weight box cut down, revised cab side and rear windows are all the same . I will try and find a photo and post it . Richard
  25. The swivel axle Oil seals(maintenance manual definition) need to be replaced on my Austin K5 but I do not have a K5 parts list ,does anyone the part numbers for this . Someone has also mentioned to me that the axles on K5 and K9 are the same and if so that would mean parts are interchangeable does anyone know if this is the case . Any help is greatly appreciated Richard Hughes
