  1. Sold for under £3,500. Not a lot of money for a lot of truck (despite it needing a bit of work).
  2. The Rear wheels now ready for sand blasting and the two angles for the engine mounts in the chassis cut and ready for marking, shaping and drilling.
  3. The Duke of Westminster now owns it. I was wondering who had bought that when it came up for sale a few years back.
  4. Thanks for posting. I cant help you with a manual for that. Lots of Dorman manuals do turn up on E pay though. Good luck.
  5. Another job done but repainting now needed! The tasks currently being planned are the removal of tyres and boring of the wheel hubs, strip down of the new pump to rescue the ‘onion’ casting and completion of the engine assembly. We also want to press the king pin out of the rescued front axle and get that back together. In between times, we are each earning a living!
  6. A quick look at our corroded originals and the radius became obvious and was not just the result of corrosion. Steve therefore determined to file them on. He made up a button to push into the holes and provide a bit of guidance and then used a flat file for the centre and a rat-tail for curves. Not too hard, just time consuming but it is nice to get these details right.
  7. Steve and Dad took a recent holiday in Norfolk, playing trains. On one particularly wet day, they decided to go to The East Anglia Transport Museum at Carlton Colville to see their wonderful J-type Thornycroft and take some more pictures and measurements. This is probably the most complete original Great War lorry left and a truly remarkable survivor. It was was purchased by Lowestoft Corporation to support the tram system just after the war and remained in their ownership until the late 1960s when it was donated to the museum. It did very little work and is essentially untouched so it has provided us with a great source of reference information. Dad made up the spring clamp plates a little while ago but, somehow, they didn’t look quite right. A quick look at the untouched originals and it could be seen that there should be a large radius on each end.
  8. Is it a Dorman 4JO engine? Can you post a photo of it please?
  9. Tony had to go to our Sand Blaster today for a friend and took the opportunity of taking the three Headlamp Brackets with him that we bought in the recent sale. They seem to be identical but only one has the Part No stamped on it in large numbers, the second one has the same correct Part Number stamped on it in small numbers – but that one is also stamped “Thor J” on it. The third has no markings whatsoever. Different Manufacturers perhaps?
  10. Duxford was a great day. We really had a blast. We drove in convoy with the Dennis, AEC and Hallford the 30 miles from a friends house where we stabled the wagons overnight: When we parked up we got mobbed so I went for a wander when I noticed this rather appealing Triumph: The circuits (with bumps) was good fun and we met all sorts of interesting vehicles and odd characters: We stopped on the way back to move around the passengers Not long after this photo was taken Steve had to do an emergency stop to prevent the Dennis crashing into a red car which pulled out directly in front of us. A very close call. Then safely back to put the Dennis to bed: Until the next time.
  11. How good are you at finding needles in haystacks? Very big needles though!
  12. A friend is looking for tyres for his Sumb but having difficulty locating them. They are 10.5R 20 XL Does anybody have any leads please? Thanks Tim
  13. Just heard from a friend who was there that two Jeeps got caught out on the beach at Arromanches. They got stuck in soft sand and nearly became submerged when the tide came in. Just rescued in time by a DUKW.
  14. It could have been much better. The worst bit was the French re-enacting the D Day landings in dance. Cringeworthy. I did like the bit about the Mulberrys. At about 2:42. At 2:46:30 there looked to be a clip of a couple of LVT's coming ashore at Arromanche, but they were probably DUKW's from a distance. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p01zcwfk/dday-70-the-heroes-return-part-2 Looking forwards to talking to my friends when they get back as I have not heard a thing.
  15. Having gone through the photos I would say that some Dutch militaria dealer is trying to quickly get rid of some excess stock. https://www.troostwijkauctions.com/uk/militaria--auction-(1)/01-18688/00/?p=1 I would also say that there really is not much there which catches my eye, although there does seem to be an awful lot of it.
  16. Some very interesting vehicles and some colourful characters. Spoiled by the absurdly contrived script. I would be quite happy for them to show some interesting vehicles that they come across without the rubbish of pretending to buy and sell them on. I hate the "turning cool military collectables into cold hard cash" garbage. I see that the US version "combat cash" was pulled after the first series when even the presenters complained about it. Could have been good. An opportunity wasted.
  17. I see on the BBC news someone driving a Panzer II up and down Arromanches beach. That might be a little controversial.
  18. Cripes. That is pretty devastating. I was quite put out when a low life through a rock through my window, I would be gutted if my house had that much damage.
