  1. That's interesting Rob. I had never thought about this before but they were probably not used on the Western Front like that were they?
  2. Yes, you are right. I should have tested it first. Thank you for the explanation.
  3. This time courtesy of Getty images. Watermarked previews with a variety of vehicles, Dennis, Renault, Liberty, Commer, Thornycroft, Holt, Leyland, Peerless and others available on the following links. Not very long but well worth a look: https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/license/mr_00102116 https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/license/496716174 https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/license/mr_00017941 https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/license/1B012266_034 https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/license/496741540 https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/license/496698040 https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/license/mr_00006584

  6. Anyone want to have a go at identifying this chassis in the USA?
  7. Although I have never tested it I am fairly sure that you are right.
  8. Yes, that is the plan. We just need to get the Thorny running properly, make a new Dennis radiator, a few other things and allow Steve to catch his breath then it is on to the Peerless. So it wont be for a little while but it is next on the list.
  9. We have been collecting parts for the Peerless restoration for quite a while and we have always been surprised at what we have been able to find. Peerless trucks were fitted with lights from a variety of different manufacturers, Lucas "King of the Road", P&H, Miller and the American manufactured Adlake lamps. We have some nice King of the Road lamps ready to go on but many Peerless photos show them with Adlakes. These are really quite rare in the UK but I am pleased to say that I took delivery of a matching pair today which still appear to have the original Army green paint on them. They are in super condition and I got them for a very reasonable price so I am very happy indeed. 10. Although the Thorny couldn't make it to Brighton we went down to see everything coming in. An incredibly hot day so thousands of people descended onto the town. Trains all cancelled so everyone came by bus or car. The traffic was very bad and with the judging time expiring at 14:00 i think more than half of the vehicles had not arrived. Of the WW1 vehicles entered two Y Types withdrew, the LGOC and FWD broke down on the way. Pierce Arrow made good time followed by Grahams Y and the Hallford. Star of the show was for me which Liberty B which looked great and on occasion towed the Saurer and the FWD up a hill. A grand day out and nice to meet so many friends.
  11. This one? https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/nash/quad/2009081.html?refer=blog Very reasonably priced i thought.
  12. That is interesting Bob. Which one is that? I have seen Richards Jeffery and photos of a Nash which i think had a hard cab. I don't think that the Jeffery has changed hands, so is it the other one, or one of the many still in France?
  13. Did Colin's Quad sell? If so where is it now? On the subject of Quads, does anybody have a list of chassis numbers and dates please? Thanks Tim
  14. They look good. Hopefully they will last you a few years.
  15. Well i am glad you got it home to dry out. That unloved "United" truck was also recovered from a flood. It did look better before it had been restored but there we go.
  16. Engine idling very smoothly But increasing the load it ran a little eratically:
  17. Starting for the 1st time today. The benefit of getting a new (and younger) starter
  18. The Thorny out on its first drive. The dinging noise is the fan clipping the edge of the radiator.
  19. Yes, it is super rare, but if it sells for that price it would be the most expensive WW1 IC truck ever sold.. Probably a unique survivor. Used by the Italians during WW1 and strangely enough also by the US Forces when they went to Italy. It is a very handsome machine.
  20. Well theres inflation for you. That sold on E Bay three years ago for about 1/10th of that price.
  21. Wow. That is my kind of play park. There is a restored Quad in Argentina which runs and looks very nice.
