Zulu war?
They might have used something like this but not specific to this conflict.
-
Rain water or even dew collecting funnels each filling a separate container beneath?
Not a deliberate water gathering mechanism Bernard, but I expect a fair bit of water would get trapped in it.
-
CLIVE from your replies would l be right that this is from the late 1800s early 1900s
Wally yes good bit of clue watching & deduction
This is 1883

Its a mother of a stack of speakers for the ENSA concert, disguised by turf to stave off detection by enemy planes in case they think it is a huge ammo dump.
:trustme:
Nope not that. It actually pre-dates three things you have mentioned
-
Is it something to do with signalling kites?
They look a bit like box kites.
Ah box kites, I never had much success with those. No its not that Lauren nor signalling
-
Anything to do with horses or India?
I don't think horses would like this at all. Very likely used in India but would be used worldwide or Empire wide.
-

Nope not a decoy & pre-dates radar
-
Storage or similar related to EWS (Emergency Water Supply)?
A good thought & I can see what you mean, but these are not storage 'tanks' either.
-
are these anti tank obstacles
Looks like that Wally but others have suggested it's to do with tank warfare as well, but it ain't.
There would definitely not have been any tanks within a thousand miles of this
-
are these square post stood on end point upwards
Very warm Wally! I see what you mean like pointed bits of garden fence timbers, but these square things have 3ft sides
-
IS IT a temporary structure with a grass sod roof for camouflage if viewed from above
Is see what you mean Wally, it's not that but this IS the view from above
-
I like to think of it as several layers of redundancy. Outer layers can be sacrificed without breaching the overall wall.
Lost me a bit there Lauren

Underground Timbering layout for a buried structure roof.
Good idea Bryan but not that, its above ground.
-
Basing for a bridge?
A good thought Lauren but not that.
-
A under ground bunker made from metal containers
A good interpretation Wally & it so easily could be that looking at it. But this above ground.
-
Direction finding antenna array?
Nice thinking Lauren I can see what you mean. But this pre-dates that sort of thing.
-
Is it animal, vegetable or mineral ? ..................... oh, sorry, wrong quiz :undecided:
Well as you asked Richard, mineral & vegetable with animal connections.
-
Tardis traffic jam.
Optimal arrangement of portaloo's after curry night at the Mess?
I get your thinking Lauren so these are a gathering of the blue plastic tardises that have been delivered for curry night but only the outside ones can be accessed? What a mischievous thought! Well its not that.
-
how to stack the old style square metal containers five gallon
I can see where you are coming from Wally, a very good thought but its not that.
-
Tank traps behind hedge?
A very sensible interpretation Rick & a good sense of perspective. Actually its not tank related.
-
Looks a bit that way Bernard but not tank related at all.I wonder if you've put that in the right place Clive, there's already a thread about buried tanks...... -
CLIVE lets get this out the way is it the right way up
A very shrewd question Wally. Yes I suppose it must be the right way up.
-
underground Rubic's cube?
Tony no this pre-dates all that cube nonsense
