They have been on eBay for years , seen them on stalls at MV shows , yes same colour but often with rust spots bursting through.  The card boxes they come in often show signs of damp storage.  They used to be very common - £ has been climbing these last few years..   The dash panel sockets - the asbestos card insulator strip , I have had them crumble to dust in my fingers , make certain there is a in-line fuse  !    I think I would just use No.1 Primer as finish colour is about right.

Thanks for the advice will try and find a wiring diagram to see which fuse is relevant

  3. Not sure if this is in the right forum, I have just bought this lamp for the land rover, it looks as though its unused and been badly stored, half of me says clean the just off and paint the other half says leave alone.

The question I have is what colour paint is it? BS number would help if I say it looks gloss mud would that help?

  4. Can I suggest if the plate is still on the vehicle that you get a picture of it as well? Also any details of the history. If you only have the plate any indication of which vehicle it was attached to. Just the plate by itself does not give very much help especially for researchers.

Non screened or unsuppressed plug leads plug leads cause a crackling interference on radios. Back in the 1960s I remember someone in the village that I lived in had a motorbike that was unsuppressed, every time he rode past the television would crackle and flicker, so it is very important to eliminate interference on military radios.

Thanks, yu saying that I remember listening to a radio channel and passing a "cow" fence could hear the clicking

    Well they won't fit that!

You will find them on military petrol engines used in radio equipped vehicles, and generators that are likely used near radio equipment, commonly known as screened plugs.

Thanks, as I have said on other threads learning, buildings and building regulations I can give answers, engines need help. Why screened plugs? is this something to do with the electrics generated similar to a magnet?
