An update on the "missing" tank in the north of holland. They did tests with several ground penetrating radars. They did only find a disturbance in the earth. Later an old man turned up who told that the canadians came to take it away some months later. They first stabalized the narrow road with debris from the airport Eelde. When the road was ready they could get a recovery tank at the position and pulled the sherman out.... so nothing left there...☹️

Yes they were very advanced.....that's what you get if you let journalists write something...i worked at a newpaper for 25 years and i have seen passing enough nonsence...😃.

Yes it is the dump Deelen in the Netherlands. Lots of canadian equipment. It seems that they have buried a lot there too. Broken vehicles but also lathes and other equipment.. They made holes with bulldozers shuffed it in and the aera was clean again...

No i wasn't suggesting you did it. You will have your work cut out putting that right.

Nice, it will get heavier with any time you bolt something on to it. We did lift heavy things at the local industry museum on unorthodox ways too. For example a forklift with a long beam of wood in the back with some people on it for counter balance. 😉

Nice job, how do you turn that thing around??

To ad some to that story on the other side of the house in the edge off the forrest the americans had some piper cubs stationed for the artillery. We did some metal detecting there and found a jeep sidelamp cover and some flattend food tins. 😉

I am not shure but as far as i can remember it was completely rust covered. The strange thing is the nearest British troops were some 10 kms away. Our region was liberated by the Americans. In a field oposite my grand parents house there were some US howitzers stationed for few weeks that shot into germany. The force from the blasts did damage the front door.

One of these tins was left after the war in my grand parents chicken hut....together with an american wooden ammobox with rope handles. But the last was very rotten. The metal one must still be somerwhere in my cellar.

The front wheel looks very much like that of a 1929 GMC truck, but i can't find any picture of a six wheel GMC prior to the famous wartime model. But these have other wheels. But in the 30s there were lots of firms that converted 4 wheel trucks to sixwheelers.

I don't know all badges seemed to removed. 😕

Did see this at an local oldtimer meeting today Volvo 4X4 with lateral winch. The cable could sort from the front or the rear of the truck. One half of the windscreen could be opened. Stange way of mounting it on the vehicle. Also the square tower for a machinegun mount look strange on the nice rounded body.4

You could use a triangle towbar instead of a trailer?
