  1. Thanks for that Blue Red Blue. We will have clean toilets and showers again for entrants as we did last year. We will site some of the toilets on the Soft Skin Vehicle/Living History field rather than all in one area as last year. Last year when the toilets arrived the All Terrain Fork Lift Truck was not available so we had to unload in one area. The disabled toilets will still be on the hard standing. There will be an area for public camping for the three days. Thanks to Grumpy for getting the website up and running after the fiasco caused by the original hosting company. The Birmingham & West Midlands Area MVT and the Alvis Fighting Vehicles Society will both have displays at Stoneliegh Militaria on 30 January and entry forms for Vehicles, Living History, Public Camping and Trade Stalls will be available from both of us. I will be on the Brum display so come and say hello. (If you want to that is) Oh yes we will be inside in the warm!!:-) Phil & Grumpy
  2. We are having regular meetings ref the show but we need an approximate areas so we can split up the field into Vehicle displays, Living History, Stalls etc. We are receiving enquiries from other groups who cover various periods from WW2 through Vietnam to Gulf War so we do need areas. When we have sorted a few other show details we can then have a site meeting where all the various groups will have some input. Phil
  3. The new series of Land Girls starts on Aunty Beeb on Monday afternoon I think it's 14-15 hrs. The US vehicles are from Birmingham & West Midlands Area MVT with a few area members as extras. Could the big Yank be Chappers? It looks awfully like him. I got a phone call from the producer asking if I could find some suitable vehicles and the result you can see. Do you think you should get an Oscar speech prepared mate?:cheesy: Phil
  4. Always sad news to here the loss of one of the 'Good Guys'. My condolences to his family and friends. Phil P
  5. We have had a couple of meetings for Tanks Trucks and Firepower Show and the revised entry forms for Vehicles, Re enactors, Stalls and public camping are virtually finished. I've been doing them this afternoon. The website should be fully running by this weekend, Grumpy is polishing it up right now. We would have had it sorted earlier but both of us were struck down by 'The Bug' over Christmas and we still have got a coughs like somebody tipping a load of gravel! Plus the hosting site that had got all the details ceased trading! How ******* useful is that?, so poor old Grumpy has had to do it all again. He's a good bloke you know. We will be doing the big push at Stoneliegh where entry forms will be available. The Alvis Fighting Vehicles Society and Birmingham & West Midlands Area MVT will both have displays in the main hall so you can get them off us there. They will be on the website soon as well to down load. I understand that there will be a big Falklands Display but we need to know how big. Please e mail to let me know how big because we are doing a rough plan of the field. I am the 'Soft Skin' arena co ordinator for the field this display will be in. Andrew Baker is co ordinator for the Armoured and Firepower display field. Any re enactment groups that want to put on a active display in the Soft Skin arena needs to let me know. If you want to do it on this Forum you can or e mail me direct on hippo1944@hotmail.com I will also have a show e mail address on the website which you can contact me on. On the website will be other e mail addresses for the folks on the committee. I will announce it on here the moment the website is up to speed or what ever it has to do. I'm an Engineer Jim .......... I thought software was like cushions and things! :-D Phil & Grumpy Show Coordinaters
  6. Hi blue red blue. Can you e mail me direct on hippo1944@hotmail.com with your details. I check the website I started but it is purely by chance I thought to check the one you started. I haven't spoken to the Alvis Society for a few days so I'm not sure about their meeting. I am currently organising three other events for next year and so don't always get chance to check other sites. I have been contacted by other re enactment groups direct one of them today which prompted me to check this. Phil & Grumpy Co organisers
  7. We've got to blow our combined trumpet! Tanks Trucks & Firepower Show Dunchurch near Rugby August Bank Holiday 2011. Organised by Birmingham & West Midlands Area MVT and the Alvis Fighting Vehicles Society. 200 plus acres so plenty of space to camp. Two display arenas, firepower displays, entertainment Saturday & Sunday nights, bar, stalls etc. We can't garrantee it won't be dry and dusty or that it won't be wet and muddy but we do garrantee are the best power showers at any show on site to get cleaned up!!! See the latest Classic Military mag for picturers (No not of the showers!) and write up or just check the comments on this Forum for this years show. Organised by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. So why not come and join us Graham. Phil, Grumpy and the AFVS.
  8. Hi BlueRedBlue. Sorry to repeat myself but I picked up the other site first. The Birmingham Area MVT are organising the re enactor and soft skin displays and bookings. The Alvis guys are doing the site facilities and firepower side as this is a joint show. Please let me know when you are going to site as we all need to meet up at the same time. I hope to go to site in the next couple of weeks to update where we are at. Then we can post the update. Nobody who wants to take part will be missed out. If you can co ordinate your display that will make it easier for us. That goes for any other groups that want to take part. The field will basically be laid out as this years show but hopefully with more exhibitors and displays. Please contact me for the displays and vehicle entries. Phil
  9. Hi Blue Red Blue. Can you let me know when you are going to the site as myself and Grumpy along with the Alvis guys can all get together and work it out. As I said the Birmingham MVT are doing the soft skin and re enactor displays and bookings. Andrew and the Alvis guys are doing the on site facilities firepower display etc. If we can all meet up together it saves a lot of what ifs and co. E mail me with your ideas. Phil & Grumpy
  10. Hi Blue Red Blue. Sorry mate not to get back before. I have done a posting today on the show site you have started. I will do future postings on this one. We have had problems with the website and I have not been able to get through. I have asked on the other posting if you would like to co ordinate the Falklands display. It makes it so much easier if one puts forward a complete package. Also you know more about it than me. If other groups can do the same tyhat would be brilliant. Just e mail and let me know please. Phil
  11. Hi Folks. If you can e mail me on hippo1944@hotmail.com I will e mail back entry forms for vehicles and re enactors. Please keep me updated on what you are doing. I am in contact with other groups who also want to put on displays so I need to have imformation from all those who want to display. Areas for dioramas etc will have to be alloted. On the re enactors form is a section for the area required. I know it's a huge field but we want to have co cordinated displays. eg. WWI through to Falklands and Gulf War perhaps in date order on the field. The idea is the visiting public can then follow a history trail. It would be great if various folks want to join together to put on a big display. The Falklands display appears to be a good example of this. If Blue Red Blue would like to organise that display then that would be great. Please stick with us things are moving at a pace. We have had problems with the website but we are resolving it. My e mail address etc is on the MVT events calendar on the MVT web page. The Alvis guys are doing there side setting up the field, pyrotechnics etc and all that that entails and we are organising the vehicles and re enactment groups in conjuction with them but some things are taking a little longer than we anticipated. Phil & Grumpy Show Co organisers.
  12. Did you know, some folks probably do, that VOSA and the Department for Transport read this Forum and other vehicle related sites. Names, dates and details have been quoted by both agencies. Phil
  13. Great event. I took the Dodge down and handed out entry forms for our show Tanks, Trucks & firepower. (Never miss a chance to push it!!) Bought some more bit's for the J£££££p. Had a good chat to a few folks I usually meet at Malvern and the odd show. There seemed to be a lot more folks than usual and better quality stuff on the stalls though some prices being asked.....gee! I found a foot starter switch for the J££££££p for £12-00. Saying that finding a genuine J thing ammeter at a classic car show in the rummage box for £2-00 will take some beating! Yes. enjoyed Malvern do. Phil
  14. You lousy *******! Here's me so proud of my clean license and then I discover I was caught on camera speeding in Cornwall on 1 November 2010. I was doing 73.8 in a 60 MPH area. Now I know I'm slowly going gaga but I think I can remember being in Cornwall a few days ago. I tried AA route finder and it couldn't find the place where I was alleged to have committed the offence so I tried a few other ways of finding the place and it took me to the original website. So I came back to the original posting on this Forum and read pages 2 & 3. Doh! In 49 years of driving I have only being caught twice and fined. Once for doing 45 in a 30 MPH area whilst driving a breakdown truck in 1966. I had been called out by the Police to move a car that had broken down in an underpass in Birmingham City centre and once for doing 96.4 on the M74 in Scotland. £24 pounds and 3 points thank you! My moment of embarrasment was being pulled over on the M6 one night doing 85 mph by a motorway Police Jag. I had to sit in the back of the Jag to be told off. When I got in the back I saw a digital display on the passenger side. I said, "There's no way I was doing 111.5!" The Police driver said, "It's 11-15 pm sir. That's the clock!" I was let off but I am sure I was the subject of a good laugh at the Police Station!" Phil
  15. Ah, well done there Wilson. I wondered when somebody would spot that! Phil
  16. I don't know what has happened there but Grumpy rang me tonight to tell me it was registered and live!! Phil
  17. It must be a case of differant DVLA offices applying differant rules. I spoke to DVLA Swansea and they told me they accept the letter from the clubs verification officer be it MVT or Imps etc without further inspections, and that has been the case with the ones I have delt with in this area and when Terry Till (MVT) has issued a verification certificate. The DVLA said they require the completed form V55/5, the certification letter as to the age of the vehicle from an official of the club registered with the DVLA, an MOT certificate to prove the vehicle is road worthy to the Ministry of Transport regulations and an insurance document. The vehicle can be issued with a temporary insurance certificate to the chassis number. These documents can then be presented to a local DVLA office that deals with vehicle registrations. If you contact Terry Till (MVT) to ask for a verification inspection send him photographs of the vehicle and the engine/chassis numbers so he can see the vehicle for himself. As I said some offices must apply differant rules but I have only stated what the DVLA Swansea told me. Phil
  18. Hi Everybody, well those that read this. Our website has been launched. We, well Grumpy 'cos I haven't a clue about websites, will add to it as we go along. The site is: www.tankstrucksandfirepower.co.uk Forms can be down loaded but I will be at Malvern to hand out entry forms for vehicles and re enactment groups. Look out for my US Navy Dodge and with a bit oof luck we should have an Alvis Supacat suitabley 'blinged' up. Phil & Grumpy
  19. Hi Rover8FFR. If your MV has been inspected by a nominated person from the MVT and the person that carried out the verification is satisfied beyond all doubt that the engine and chassis numbers are correct and apply to the vehicle being inspected he will fill in a verification form with all the details as seen. He may ask (I do) if there are any reciepts applicable to the vehicles purchase that have a chassis number on it that may be checked. (I'm not interested how much you paid.) The completed verification form with the inspectors comments will then be sent to the MVT Verification Officer. If he is satisfied that the vehicle is correct from the inspectors imformation a verification letter/certificate will be issued. No other inspection should be required as the DVLA accept the MVT verification document. If the person inspecting the vehicle does not feel that the vehicle is what he is being told it or appears to be he will inform the verification officer and the owner we be informed or a second opinion will be called. I know one nominated inspector who went to see a vehicle that turned out to be a rusty chassis a bulkhead a very corroded engine block and an axle! Needless to say it was was turned down. The owner might be perfectly legit' but there is always the chance in such circumstances that the vehicle remains are being used to legitimise something that has a very 'iffy' history. If you are not sure how to go about registering your vehicle then ring the MVT or Imps Verification Officer or the DVLA in Swansea. It is possible to speak to a human at the DVLA and not some automated system and they are very helpful. Normal MVT charge is about 40p a mile plus any out of pocket expences. A cup of tea with no sugar and two Hobnobs is nice.:-) Phil
  20. Hi mate. I think we can find you a few acres. Bring what you want. Space isn't a problem as you may have noticed. Our problem this year was folks who booked in and didn't show up. We even had one cheeky ******* who booked in 2 vehicles didn't bring either and then wasn't happy because he came by car and was charged to come in! Nice one! Phil.
  21. Website nearly there. Stick with us!! Phil 'n Grumpy
  22. Thanks folks. Watch this forum for updates. Phil 'n Grumpy.
  23. The Birmingham & West Midlands Area and the Alvis Fighting Vehicle Society continue their partnership for an even bigger and better show for 2011 at Dunchurch nr Rugby. Note the slight change of show name. The show will be for vehicles of all periods both soft skin and tracked plus displays, dioramas and re enactment groups. The show website is almost complete. On the site you will be able to either down load entry forms or book in online for vehicles or re enactors. Vehicle entry forms will be e mailed to those who booked in this year and gave their e mail address. As in 2010 there will be toilets and showers on site plus beer tent trade stalls and evening entertainment. Show details will also appear on various show diary websites. Camping for entrants to TANKS, TRUCKS AND FIREPOWER 2011 who are then going to the Victory Show will be available. Please let us know. Watch the HMVF Forum for details of the TANKS TRUCKS & FIREPOWER 2011 website and when it is up and running. TANKS TRUCKS & FIREPOWER 2011. 29/30/31st AUGUST 2011 Phil P & Grumpy Co organisers.
  24. Hi Chevpol. In the Brum Area MVT no but I am not sure in the AVFS if there could be one. It would be great if you would like to put on a display at Dunchurch next year. We are still doing the website and when sorted you can download a re enactors/display entry form. It will ask you on the form how big the display is. That way we can alot a suitable area. The intention is to 'peg' out the field so that all the displays have adequate space to set up and for the public to view. For those who came this year we are not pushed for space at Dunchurch but we also don't want huge gaps between the displays. A site map will be sent out prior to the show so you can find your place on the show site. Interest in the show is growing fast and we still have 11 months to go. Phil
  25. Hi Timbo. We have thought about arranging things in chronological order but folks like to park in either MVT areas or by their mates etc. Stoneliegh tried to dictate where folks went and insisted they didn't want 'clubby gatherings' (Their words) when they took over from Peter Slater and there were was a big outcry. Result no Stoneliegh. On the entry forms it asks are you part of an MVT Area display and how long are you staying ie SAT, Sun or all days. That way those who are doing a display will have an alloted area. Those staying three days will be near to the arena and those only doing one day will be in the rows (rows?!) behind. That way we hope to always have full rows at the front. One of the problems we had was that most folks like to have a hedge or fence behind them. In a huge field that is a problem. Next year marshalls will direct vehicles into the alloted areas. This year I was trying to book folks in and direct them and....... chaos won out! Hi Blue Red Blue I thought your display was superb. More of that please. We hope to put all the dispays like that into one big area and the MV's in another, not far away, plus other displays. We want to make this show as user friendly as possible. We have been to loads of shows over the years and some are fantastic and some are ......er.....oh dear! We are open to advice, suggestions, unless they are physically impossible or may result in hospital treatment and councelling!, on how the show can improved for all. We are asking for exhibitors to remain on site on the Saturday and Sunday until 5-00pm as the show is still open to the public then. We are not doing a Stoneliegh with a lock in. To everybody who has given permission to use their photographs thank you. We will try and acknowledge even if it's only your forum name. Nearly forgot thank you to those who have offered help on site. Nearer the date I will be asking you for contact details so that I can update you direct. I really should do a new posting rather than keep using this one. Time etc. Crap excuse! Phil
