  1. So things have been busy in work this week, not much time to spend on the 3SW. I managed a few little things......remainder of engine brackets now fitted, horn attached and the piecing together of the side stand to the frame. A push this weekend now to get the primary chain side of the engine back together and reinstated the newly made wiring ‘harness’. A full renovation of the regulator is no needed so the electrics can be tested
  2. Hi Graham. your looking for a Bakelite one which has a dished top.......the links above are later
  3. Ron, thank for the information, that’s a great help! The field stand has that ‘rustic charm’ 😉But you are totally right I may need to find some heat to get that final bend out of it. This is the first bike I have restored in some years so a little apprehensive I won’t have it done in time....but I do hate taking short cuts. fingers crossed it will make it to France!
  4. Yes Graham, the steering knob dampers are a little tricky to find, they do come up now and then though. I have seen some Indian repros but no personal experience with them I am sorry.
  5. Out of curiosity is there somewhere I can buy all of the control cables off the shelf or is it better to make them/have them made?
  6. Hi Ron There is still an ever so slight bend in it, I have had it wrapped arround a post, a tractor and the vice no more give left in it. I am a little apprehensive about putting anymore force on it, I have a sneaking suspicion the tube might kink before it gives anymore. Thanks for the info on the gearbox filler cap, this is something on ‘the list’. ‘The list’ seems to have doubled since the start of the project.........
  7. Next jobs now include fitting the inner primary change casing along with the clutch basket and new clutch plate set. I have recently completed the makeup of a new wiring harness so that will follow shortly after.
  8. After a few more hours of work the field stand has finally given in to the welder and grinder. It’s looking in a much better state so it’s now been primed and sprayed with a top coat along with the newly restored clear hooters horn (sorry for the poor picture quality)
  9. A newly equired steering damper knob now also fitted.....
  10. So nice weather yesterday allowed me to press on with the reassemble of newly restored parts. The oil tank, filter and oil lines now reinstated with the addition of a newly enquires pre war oil cap. The original cap is proving a challenge to source but this one is much better than the alternative which it came with. the dynamo/magneto straps are now on with newly fabricated fixing pins.
  11. Definitely Ron. Its seen lots of ‘action’ for sure! I am hoping to piece it back together today.....watch this space
  12. So a simple job, renovating the field stand, turned into a larger project after several cracks were spotted in the the swivel pivot.....a few hours and some welding and I am hoping the issues are now remedied...
  13. Great picture Ron! Turning my attention to putting the bike back together the inlet manifold studs (bolting the carb to the head) are completely stripped. I am having some difficulty in sourcing the correct replacements........can anyone maybe point me in the right direction? These little studs are proving harder to source than anything else!
  14. A little job now done, the newly rebuilt gearbox and dynamo placed back in the frame!
  15. Great photo!! All of the Lucas MT110'tail lights appear to be missing? My bike is from contract C6128
  16. That's extremely reasonable Ron! I can only imagine the work that's must have gone into each of them! Are you able to pinpoint when Triumph changed for this 'clamp on' style to the later welded lug?
  17. That’s a lovely find Ron, I must say I have never seen the earlier ‘clamp on’ stand before! It’s in great condition too! Graham I found it after a lot of internet searches.
  18. One of the hardest parts to source to date was an orginal field stand. My particular bike has the later welded lug, 6 months of searching I found a genuine field stand tucked away in France, a little worse for wear but solid all the same. It finally arrived through the post today, still with signs of military paint in places too!
  19. On a separate note can I ask how you WD bike owners apply/applied your number plate letter/numbers? I know there’s a few companies out there making good stencils but I have seen a few original/period number plates with the letters and numbers hand painted. Is this how all period plates were created?
  20. I will give it a good clean up and then test it, fingers crossed it will be ok but if not I think a solid state regulator is definitely the best way forward!
  21. So some of the missing parts I have managed to source and purchase are now being delivered thick and fast. This weeks delivery includes a gasket set and more excitingly (I know, sad) an early clamp type MCR1 regulator as found on both the Triumph 3SW / 3HW etc.. and the Norton 16H. The lovely thing about this Regulator is it retains inside the cap, orginal military paint, but also stamped above 'FADE' is 'Lead Acid',which I am led to believe is an early 39/40 item. A lot of work to do on it but I think it will be a nice little addition when restored!
