  1. I think I know the part you mean, is it the stud which screws into the frame at the bottom rear and has a thin lock nut on the inside of the frame and a larger special nut to tighten onto the pannier rack part number 23143? If so, I can make you one, I do mine in stainless and then shot blast to give it the plated look.

As an aside, its made from a single piece of turned bar rather than 2 bolts brazed together (well, at least the original was).

  2. Looking at that nut, I can see nothing wrong with it and it should go so is there something we're not seeing? Have you got a Torque wrench on it? I'm intrigued as to how much Torque you've applied to it. I've removed much, much worse nuts with a lot less effort so there must be something going on.

  3. As far as I'm aware the marking discs were in use throughout WW1, I've seen a number of WW1 rifles with the disk and my own relic gun retains it.

The * doesn't indicate the windage sight, volley sight and cut off were removed, it indicates a change to the pattern that was not worthy of an increase in mark so the MkIII* was made as a MkIII* and was never a MkIII. Some MkIII* were converted to MkIII post war by fitting a cutoff and windage sight but as the stocks had been made differently to the MkIII, the Volley sights were obsolete.

Weedon were repairing and checking weapons through WW1 and right after. Thousands passed through Weedon as the weapons were returned to store after being handed in by returning soldiers.

  4. Here is my late tool box (Used up to the early WD/CO) on a late frame (Fitted as standard to the Export CO). You can see that the toolbox was made for an early frame and so Royal Enfield had to use spacers to fill the gap between the late frame hangar and the earlier toolbox. This toolbox will fit the early frames with no modification required.

  5. It all depends on what type of frame you have, the earlier frames had the WD/C type battery carrier hangar but the later frames had their own hangar which had an attached regulator bracket. These were not designed for the tool box.

If the above is the one you have you could modify it or get a Model G one (Keeping the original as is)

If you need the tool box, Hitchcocks have repro boxes, I haven't bought one but they look OK.

Again, there are 3 types of toolboxes, the early with the lock, the middle aged one which is like the early but with a know rather than a lock and the last type is the real simple type with a full size door with a knob. They have brackets riveted on in different places and some may need spacers fitted. If you need a photo, let me know.

  6. Hi Ladies and Gents,

I am looking for a holder to attach to my 30cal. I have searched loads of sites. Does anybody know where I can get one. I would be interested in a complete pintle / holder as well if I cannot just get the can holder. Thanks.

If you have it on a M2 tripod then the can went on the ground. If it's on a pedestal there's plenty of repro holders around. BMG in the States have lots of variations but they could be expensive to ship.

    What is it you have?

  7. I've heard from a very reliable source that they may have to cut back on the number of events that VERA will attend. They are used to flying maybe 4 events a year and not 4 a week and the 2 Pilots are knackered. One of the Pilots, the one that flew most of the ferry flight over here is in his 70's so hats off to him for his efforts. I also made reference to the possibility of the BBMF Lanc going to Canada but it's already been ruled out as there isn't the same following over there that there is here. The Canadian crew have been overwhelmed by the General Public and can't believe the reception they are receiving where ever they go.

  8. I believe Kermits Lanc has sat in ISOs for years and has never been looked at to check for deteriation. I think it used to be the one that was a runner in Scotland and was at Woodford for restoration when the roof collapsed. It's a shamebut it will only ever be a composite of airframes and the chances of it getting rebuilt anytime in the near to middle future are slim.

  9. Didn't the last one get abandoned over the sea for safety. And I think it may have been the same pilot.

I saw the Sea Fury the Thursday before at Coningsby and it was very impressive. At least he walked away from it and managed to save it from complete destruction.
