  1. Well more has been done to the command car, I have now made and fitted all the new copper brake lines, also fitted the flexi pipes. I have also fitted and made new copper fuel lines. I have also got all the parts for the engine fitted. New flexi oil pipes, I have also blasted and painted the oil filter housing and oil filler. I have fitted a new bendix to the starter motor and also repainted it. I have also made new HT Leads, new distributor cap, new plugs ect. I have also fitted all the relined brake shoes and brake cylinders. The radiator has also been fitted. I have also completed the welding repairs to the underside of the body. The body is now ready to meet the master blaster, then in for priming. I will add a few pics soon. Howard
  2. Well I have got more done to the command car, the axles are now back on the chassis. I have also got the new valves fitted into the engine and lapped in. The engine has now been stripped down and has been painted. I have also made a start to rebuild it and it is now bolted back into the chassis. I have rebuilt the starter motor and fitted a new bendix. Just waiting to give it a coat of satin black before its fitted to the engine. I have refitted the flywheel and fitted a new clutch plate. Just waiting for a new clutch release bearing before i fit the gear box. I have fitted new seals to the transfer box and this has been refitted to the chassis. I have also blasted and painted the prop shafts. I have also fitted new oil seals to the end of the pinion shafts. The fuel tank has also been cleaned and painted, along with the brackets/ straps. Ihave also ordered a new exhaust system, due to be delivered any day. Heres a few pics.
  3. Well I have managed to get the body in the turntable, The body is bolted to rails that are telescopic both length and width ways so you can get it exactly right to mount on the stand. I have now got the underside blasted to allow the welding of new top hat section cross members. After the blasting there was a bit of rusting unearthed, but only on the passenger side, should not be to hard to get some more top hat section folded and cut out and replace. The turntable has certainly made the job a a lot easier. I have also ground down the old welds and metal near the fuel filler pipe on the body.
  4. Hi, yes it is a early with civy dash, the body is in quite nice shape. I tested the comprestion of all the cylinders and they were all very disappointing. I have removed the head and the valves and seats are to good i did the fluid test around the valves and most of them leaked, I have now ordered a full set of new valves, also going to get the valve seats reground then get the valves lapped in. I will update the blog as this is done. The chassis is now all painted and ready to come out of the turn table. Howard.
  5. Well another good day, with a bit of minor welding work done on the chassis, I managed to get it painted in drab, along with a few other items.
  6. Just bare in mind if you go to get a match take a panel thats not had the sunlight on it, I use a local company to me and they are very good. I had some matched the other day and it was spot on. If you have a problem PM me and I may be able to help. Howard
  7. Well more work carried out today on the command car, both axles have now been blasted. I have also fitted new seal. A few other items have been blasted and primed like the radiator, surround and the front grill. Yes the turn table saves a lot of back ache, and bending over, dont know why I didnt get one years ago. I have fitted all new seals in the transfer box and the gear box. Howard.
  8. Well the work has now commenced on the full rebuild of a Dodge Half Ton Command Car. All the fuel lines, brake lines, engine, and other removable items have been stripped. The Body has been lifted from the chassis and the running gear also removed from the chassis. The chassis has been mounted in a Turn Table which I had fabricated by R.H.Barrell Engineering Ltd, and they have made a fantastic job to. The turn table made it a lot easier to blast and prime the chassis, and it will make it a lot easier for repair work, Its also designed to take adjustable rails so I can bolt on the bodt for repairs.. I have also had all of the brake cylinders and master cylinder relined by Past Parts. I have got most of the replacement parts now in stock, so the rebuild should move along a quite a nice pace. Although I still have the chevrolet C60s on the go but its a stop due to waiting for parts. Here are a few pictures of state of play on the C.Car and its arrival. Howard.
  9. Hello Niels, yes I found one in the USA so I have ordered that. I have managed to get a bit more completed I have made and fitted the front vent grills, the mesh is metal, I have use this insteadd of alloy, as I thought it would be a good Idea to use magnetic material to go on top if you dont wont to use the vents will also stop heavy rain going down the vent. I have also got the dynamo and control box back and fitted, its all up and charging as it should. I also fitted the rubber seals at the top of the cab that bolts against the top of the windscreen frame. Howard
  10. If any body out there or knows of a carburettor for sale I would be interested, I am still needing one. Thanks
  11. Hi Phil. your right about the engine bay, loads of room, ha,ha. I tried to test the regulator, but no joy, so I have sent both the regulator and the dynamo to the auto electric shop. I should here tomorrow. Thanks Howard
  12. Hi Phil, well the dynamo does work as i picked it up today from the electrical engineers. Its also been polarised, I also cleaned the contacts on the regulator box. But still no joy. Just as a matter of interest are your trucks negative or posative earth. Mine is negative. Are put a meter on the control box tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks Howard
  13. Thats very handy thanks, ive printed those pics off to give to my upholstery man. I fitted the rebuilt dynamo today but after a run theres no charge showing on the gauge. I am wondering if its the control box. If some one has a spare for sale or one I could try to rule out mine that would be handy. thanks Howard.
  14. Hello Phil Thanks for the sizes, yes I do have a pattern, well for the back so i can see where they clip on. The base cushion covers look pretty easy. I dont have springs so they bases will be foam. As for work on the truck, i have straightened the front bumper this has now been blasted and primed and so has the brush guard. I have decided to leave the original paint on the seat frames as its not to bad and its nice to leave something original. Are post some pics of the seat cushions soon as they have been made. Howard
  15. Hello Phil, Thanks for that look forward to getting the sizes of the cushions. I mad a bit more progress and got the outer frame bolt back on loose, I am pretty sure i can fit the inner frame after it only screws on, and the rubber seal runs in a bottom groove. Howard
  16. Yes Phil, that small water gutter under the hood area is not a very clever design, it would not be a bad idea to have a tube on both ends sending water down through the engine bay to the ground, at the moment water collects between the inner body and would rot out. I have another question. How thick is the padding in the seat cushions. And how thick is the padding in the seat back rests. I managed to get the outer windscreen frame balsted and primed today, also a few other bits. Howard
  17. Hello Phil, thanks for that, interesting that your inner frame work can hinge out, Was this standard on all the c60 trucks. My truck has a fix screen in that it was screwed and held in place with a long top plate with lots of countersunk screws. Does any body know is it possible to bolt back the outer frame and fit the roof back on or does the inner screen have to be in place first before fitting the whole frame to the truck. Thanks Howard
  18. Well I attacked the outer and inner windscreens today. The out will clean up very nicely but the inner is a different story, this is going to need quite a bit of repair work. However if anybody has an inner frame for sale then i would be interested. Thanks Howard
  19. Hello John, What a fantastic Tractor, really nice tractors have to be my favorite trucks, please go and get that trailer, what a lovely set up. I want one. Howard
  20. Hello All, many thanks for all the offers of a carb I am now sorted. I have managed to get the top half of the cab all top coated, just got to get some trim, to go around the edge. I have also had a stainless steel exhaust made this is also now fitted.
  21. Hi Maurice Thanks for that, I just wonder how long the zenith has been on there, I would like to get a Carter carb for it if I can. So if anybody has a carter carb for sale then let me know. Thanks Howard
  22. I have a question on the Chevrolet C60s the engine is fitted with a Zenith Carb, I would like help in finding out what model it is, and where can I locate a rebuild kit for the Carb. Here are a few pics. Thanks Howard
  23. Well I finally got the wheels taken to the tyre man to have the tyres removed, they came off quite well, and not a silly amount of rust. I put the wheels through the blaster so they are ready for priming. I also got the top half of the cab blasted. I also cut out the bottom edge ready for a new section to be welded in.
  24. Well a bit of an up date. I now have the bottom cab back panel painted and sitting on the cab floor. I have been doing a lot more of the front wiring which is just about done. I had a problem with a 6 volt flasher relay so have sent for a replacement. I am also waiting for a new mechanical fuel pump. I tried the one out but some how there is a small leek on the casing it has a small crack. I am also waiting for some rubber beading to come in, so I can then start building up the front end tin work. I am going to get the top half of the cab repaired next. The wheels are going to a tyre company on monday to have them pressed off the rims. Thats about it at the moment. Howard
