  1. Well got the lower section of the cab all done and now primed. Also got the small vent pull brackets all prepped and painted.
  2. Well I had a little surprise this afternoon a courier turned up with the chrome bezel for the instrument panel. Really finishes it off.
  3. Just have to see when i get it back, i think the chap said it was a fridge.
  4. I had another thought on the front side lights, what about making or bending the rubber light bracket so they go were the butler lights were. Just a thought, the butler lights that were on there have seen better days. The main head lights have the side light light in so the rubber lights were going to be indicators.A few pictures of the repairs to bottom half of the cab, still some finishing to do. Howard
  5. Mmm not sure what to do, the holes are still in the top of the wing for a butler light, do i fit these or fit the rubber lights. Well today i got the radiator all plumbed in. I also collected the metal for the cab repairs. I cut all the rotten metal from the bottom section of the cab and welded in a new a complete new bottom section, I ground down the welds and skimmed with filler, just needs sanding and priming now. Well thats it for now. Howard
  6. Mmm thoses are some good ideas, I have to admit i did think living pod for a gmc, and the nice thing being on skids and having the lifting points it can lift on and off a truck. All are need is a truck. Are have to be getting this home.
  7. Gordon, thats actually a good point I did not think of medical, but if they kept blood it would have to be kept cool, are have to start digging, the old thing seems so straight it would be a shame to scrap it.
  8. Its funny what you come across when you call in at different places. I had to pop out first thing this morning only a couple of miles down the road. The place in question was your typical suffolk farm house and old red brick out buildings. Well Talking to the owner I mentioned that I restored old military vehicles and collected various items from WW2 and also enjoyed watching WW2 aircraft, well about a minute after saying that a WW2 twin propped aircraft flew over, I thought it was a blenheim but after a call to a friend at Duxford he informed me theres had not flown today. So not quite sure what it was that flew over, any way I am drifting away from the story. Well carrying on are conversation he told me back in the very late 40s early fiftys the farm was a Dairy farm and the old boy that farmed there, later on had to get a fridge to keep his dairy products cool. Well the fridge in question was still there in one of the out buildings, and its about 7ft square and you can walk in. Well the inside of door is painted in drab and still has the stenciling on the door. On closer inspection although the outside is now white, there is drab under the white paint. It also has the original compressor and motor on the roof of the fridge. The whole thing is alloy. The floor is ribbed. Just goes to show what is about, I just wonder if its off one of the many 8th air force bases dotted around suffolk and Norfolk. Its in such good order i could not stand to see it scrapped so i now have a fridge to collect. Pics are on my phone so are down load in a mo. Howard. ( Lunch over back to work)
  9. Hello Pete, I noticed that your front side light wires runs on top of the front wing to the side engine panel. I take it this is how they were, I just wondered weather to drill a hole and gromet it and run wire under wing, what do you think. Another question the front air intake cones did they have some sort of slotted cover on them with a fine mesh behind to stop bugs ect blowing in. One other thing Pete, were your rear lights double filament light and brake or just lights. Thanks Howard
  10. Well I have done a bit more today, i did not use the galv flexi duct I went for the softer type, and it looks alot better. I got the head lights wired up, also fitted the correct screws and cup washers, I also fitted the radiator, its really taking shape. I also got the bottom half of the cab back blasted and primed theres a bit of reapair work to do to this.
  11. Mmm thats all handy info, one thing I did notice there is no fuel filter on this truck not sure that it ever had one. I have fitted an inline filter. Well I managed a bit more today my slotted raised headed screws came in today so I can now make a start with the cup washers and screws fitting tin work. The raidiator will be ready for collection tomorrow. I have made up a bit more of the wiring loom, I have Tempary fitted the front light bodys, I found some galv coated flexi duct, perfect for the front light wiring the duct fits the hole in the light bracket and the light a treat, so i have cut to pieces to suit and painted these. Well thats about it for now. Howard.
  12. Yes I think King Bee make a filter/ pressure regulator. There are some on that site ebay. Howard
  13. Hello Adrian, thanks for the advice, are have a good look at mounting places for the pump. Howard
  14. Niels, I went for an SU pump,it looks like a good quality pump, cost was £99 inc vat and delivery are let you know how I get on once its here and fitted, proof will be in the pudding. I am tempted to do away with the mechanical pump altogether, but ive rebuilt it now, so it may as well be used, and just use the SU pump as a primer pump for now. Here is a pic of the SU pump in question. Stock code for the pump is AUA26.
  15. Well I got the go ahead on fitting a 6 volt pump to the fuel system. So i have just ordered the pump, hopefully be here for Wednesday, another little job to do. It has a bulkhead fixing so are make a bracket up and fix to the chassis rail, or under the drivers side of the floor. Howard
  16. Well did a little bit more, got the head lights blasted in the cabinet, and then cleaned down and primed in red oxide. Get them top coated first thing in the morning.
  17. Mmm thanks peter for that. All of this fuel pump talk has made me think. Certainly seems like a good idea in fitting a 6 volt primer pump. I will have to consult my client but I recon thats another job for the list. Those SU pumps look like a good quality pump. I recon i may do what you did then peter, use the toggle switch for a fuel pump and connect rear lights with the front side lights. Thanks every one for there comments. Back to the truck and ive got the passenger side front wing on, just got to go and buy some more nuts and bolts its amazing how many these old trucks use. Howard
  18. Hi Peter, I am getting there, on the wiring i have wired in the light switch and also wired in the dip switch for hi and low head lights. I noticed on the original wiring diagram that the rear side lights come off the fuse from the light switch to another toggle switch to supply the rear lights. Did you wire your rear lights like that, or did you wire them to come on with the front side lights. Think I am going to stick to the wiring diagram. I am also just using 3 colours on the braded wire. For the rear feed, I have managed to get some heavy 7 core cable so are be using that. Any thoughts as to where I can get a sender unit for the fuel Tank. Thanks Howard
  19. Well Found some new 7" headlights on the shelf just need to get 6 volt bulbs. I also stripped and cleaned the light switch. I also got the coil fitted and mad up the new wires.
  20. Very nice to, lets get the tickets booked. I could do with a break.
  21. Hello peter, not a bad idea for the head lights, if i can get an ols looking glass that will properly be ok. Are have a look on a few vintage spare sites that i use. Thanks Howard
  22. 79x100. I will take another look at the plate and see if it cleans up any better and get another pic. Thanks Howard. Something i do need is some 7 inch headlight glasses, I also need the plugs that plug into the head light. Failing that are hard wire them right in. Thanks Howard
  23. Hi Peter a little, bit of a smell of stale petrol, about the same as the one on the truck when it arrived infact the fuel in it was very bad. Howard
  24. Well the other fuel tank turned up today, many thanks Peter. The tank will be blasted and repaired but will only be used as a dummy tank. Ive done a bit more got the fuel line in and mounted the other fuel tank, thats about it for now. Howard
