  1. Having pulled apart steam engines which have been derelict for 50 years I would suggest getting them cherry red and using a 3/4 drive socket and long bar ( with scaffold pole extension if needed). Eat your weetabix first!
  2. I owned this militant back in 2000 but had to sell it on due to loss of storage space. I think it went to a guy from attleborough in Norfolk called Richard, but I've list his details. I'm just wondering if he ever did anything with it?
  3. Have put pics of this elsewhere on the forum, but thought I'd start a thread showing its restoration. The general thought at the moments is to get the cab watertight for the winter as the shed will have to be given over to the steam roller when the bad weather sets in. Here's some pics of work so far as well as a pic of the day we collected her for comparison
  4. Thanks for that. 2 questions - what publication is this from? & How do i get a copy?
  5. John, Any idea which spec of alternator would fit? Any literature would be of a great help! Stu
  6. This is the regulator box fitted to my milly If I push the bottom solenoid together the top left solenoid opens and the charge light goes out. The bottom solenoid will hold in, but not pull in by itself. Any suggestions please?
  7. Ok I've found a plate on the LH chassis rail behind the cab, which give the chassis number but no military reg number. Cannot see any other plate. Would I be able to get the history from just the chassis info? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. a quick question what licence would i need to tow a loaded trailer on an a-bar behind my 1955 mili? just wondering about the possibility of a low-loader for the steam engine
  9. Thanks rob. Btw don't suppose you have a full wiring diagram by any chance?
  10. So you mean the vertical guides or the one the glass actually sits it?
  11. anyone know where i can get window regulator guides from? (the bit the glass sits in) mines a bit moth eaten!
  12. Oil filter sorted. Any ideas regarding fuel filter part numbers?
  13. now starting to look at replacing the rotten platework on the cab of my mili. just wondered what you guys used as replacement for the roundhead rivets? Whilst i am not averse to knocking down 7/8" white hot boiler rivets, there must be an easier way with the AEC!
  14. Thanks rob Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Any clues as to where I can get oil filters? Or better still part numbers please!!!! Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Need to think about getting the Militant insured. Just wondering who is best for insurance? Do some policies include recovery? Any ideas on costs?
  17. Cheers for the welcome guys. Not sure what to do with it yet. Do i leave the recovery crane on? i have contacted the company it worked for as a wrecker (Coussens Crane Hire in Bexhill) and they are digging some pics out for me. Quite impressed by the fact that after 1/2 a days work we got all the brakes freed off, & air up (and held for over 1/2 hour after switching engine off). Starts "on the button" and clutch etc. seem fine. If it werent for the fact its not had new filters etc. yet i'd be tempted to drive it home, but it'll get a piggy back on a friends low loader. Any suggestions on which way i should go with it?
  18. As requested. 0859/854. Its an FV11008. Not sure of military reg. Any further info greatly appreciated.
  19. MAny thanks. Its not home yet so will check next time i see it!
