  1. Absolutely correct

The note sent by the DVLA regarding MOT exemption (I published it on here in November 2012) clearly states that the cherished transfer sceme will still be allowed providing the vehicle undergoes a voluntary MOT

    It goes on to say

"This is to ensure that vehicles are still in existence and prevent fraudulent claims for attractive marks"

So nothing new really, maybe just a case of not understanding the rules??

note this was not edited by me - I went to reply by quoting and inadvertently hit Edit on Brooky's post by mistake - have removed my comment and added separately! N.O.S.

  2. Hi Trying to locate a trader possibly called Ian ? who goes by the name The Armourer, think he is based East of Uk possibly Cambridge. Any help appreciated. Regards andy

    Hi

It is Ian Durrant you are after

He live out the other side of Wisbech, he does/did have a website..............try Gooooooooooooooogle??

  3. Cut to the chase.

I would hate to live with the brakes and lump. Love the looks tho!

It would be pretty easy to convert to a iveco 2.8 lump and running gear cheap too I may add, whilst retaining its fabulous exterior even keeping the rusted dull faded paint and have a very usable extremely cool looking truck that would live on and in time could be returned to origional should any future perspective buyer so wish.

Nothing wrong with either brakes or engine

Brakes when set up are perfectly adequate for a 1950's vehicle (you just have to drive it as a 1950's vehicle) and as for the engine the ford V8 has to be one of the best engines for turning fossil fuel into a wonderful noise!!!

And the V8 was quite unusual in these, they were usually fitted with the 4 cylinder cost cutter engine

That said it is yours and if you feel the need to change it then that is yours and yours alone choice

  4. In my opinion to radically alter a vehicle like this (especially as you say its resonably tidy) is wrong!!!

There used to be quite a lot of these on the circuit a few years ago (in fact I owned one) but you dont see them very often now.

There are a couple that have been painted in "garish" colours and used by the owners as motor homes, but to see one still in Civil Defence colours is rare and they do help to illustate an interesting time in our recent history and an organisation that was set up in case of nuclear war

Quite a useful vehicle really can be converted into a camper without ruining the exterior appearence and if fitted with the cost cutter engine quite economical (oops just seen yours has the V8, still a very nice engine though)

The gearbox though is an aquired taste!!

  5. Don't know about the legislation in England... But you may need an official "dating certificate" from an owners club. If you are a member of the Royal Enfield Owners Club, they can make you such a certificate.

    Jan

Only if the club is recognised by the DVLA to issue dating letters

  6. Hi Chris. I've been going round in circles for the last half hour trying to find a way to contact HMRC about a NOVA declaration. Why am I doing it? Since the vehicle is not an import??? Ron

PS. I've managed to sent a query to HMRC by email. I'll post the results when and if I get any. During my googling round, I came across other forums talking about what an utter farce the whole thing is and that DVLA and HMRC are not properly working together on this ...... Sounds about right!!

    Try here http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/agents/nova/online.htm

I dont know what the rules are for a vehicle that has spent all its life in the UK

However if a declaration is made (and they usually come back with nothing to pay) it ticks a box with the DVLA and doesnt stop them issuing a registration number

The MVT unfortunately cannot get involved with this process.........not being obtuse but it is the responsibility of the owner to complete this process

  7. I am also about to register a WD Velo. Everything I read about this NOVA declaration states it's for vehicles imported into the UK. Is it also necessary for registering a UK vehicle? Anyone got a link to the form or correct department.

    Thanks Ron

    Try the HMRC website

  8. A Matador with MK body and Militant cab, recollect seeing at a show at Bletchley Park years ago.

    Certainly was

Used to see it regularly round the shows in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire

Sometimes used to tow a 25pdr

  9. I know it's a british bike but you'll also need to register with hmrc, it's called a NOVA declaration, it's a bit of a farce but dvla do an automatic check and if it's not on the register then they send your v55c back until you've done the nova bit.

its easy to do and you don't need to send anything as it's all online, check the .gov website.

    Chris here!!!

    The process is reasonably simple

If you are in the MVT go to the MVT website and follow the verification tab

    Fill in the online form

(MVT Members get the service for free, non members there is a charge of £40 plus VAT (membership costs £30)

You will get a reply from me asking for some further details

I will then arrange for an inspection to confirm it is what it is

When this is done I will issue a dating letter and this and some other documentation and you should then get an age related number

You do not need an MOT (pre 1960 is exempt)

You do need a form V55 only available from the DVLA and you will have to make a NOVA declaration

  10. There is a phone by the side of unmanned crossings for animals and abnormal loads.

    All crossings I believe

    HWC Rule 294

If you are driving a large or slow moving vehilce................You MUST obtain permission to cross............you must also after crossing use the phone again to confirm you have crossed

    (Have parphrased the rule!)

  11. Hi all its just a quick question really, what driving licenses do you need to drive these trucks? Am i going to have to sit my HGV exam or is it like buses and you can drive them for personal use if over 30 years old?

    Thanks

    Seb.

    h

    Rules are quite simple

Vehicle over 3.5tonnes laden weight require a vocational licence to drive them

    However............

If that vehicle was manufactured prior to 1960 and used unladen and with or without an unladen trailer and not in conjunction with a trade or business then it can be driven on a CATB licence

If the vehicle is post 1960 then regardless you must have a minimum of a CATC licence (maybe C+E if you intend to tow a trailer

GMC falls into the first category, REO probably in second category

  12. Everybody jumps up and down when the words Risk Assesment are used

    Risk Assessments are there to

    a. Identify Hazards (Hazards have the potential to cause harm Risks are is the likelihood of that hazard causing harm and its severity)

    b. Think about the risk associated with those hazards

    c. Put some control measures in place

The Law states that a risk assessment should be suitable and sufficient (Health and Safety at Work act 1974 Section 3) and be documented. There is though no standard form!

Suitable and sufficient means identify significant risk(ignore trivial ones) identify and prioritize measures to control the risk and the risk assessment should be carried out by a competant person. Which is maybe why the council have passed it to you

These may be for the display you are having

    Hazard:- Moving Vehicles and Pedestrians

    Risk:- High potential for Injury/Death

Control: All drivers briefed, No vehicle movement without marshall supervision, marshalls briefed and to wear Hi-Viz

    And so on!

A risk assessment is a means to allow you to do something rather than say you cant do it

  13. Dear All

I am looking around for a good, but not cost the planet charger that would do 12 and 24v batteries.

I do have one of those Oxford battery conditioners / chargers, which are excellent but due to the way they work take days to charge a battery and even longer if they de-sulphate it first.

Also are those Solar ones any good for float charging a battery to ensure it's always at peak charge.

    Thanks

    try Machine Mart

The 12V/24V charger with boost start I bought in 1992 and its still going strong!!
