  1. Been digging into the archives at work and this picture sparked some potential interest. Is this a QL on the right-hand side of the snap taken in Cannock? I might be completely wrong, but something made me stop and think it might well be.

I know there isn't much to go on but this is the place where an answer might be achieved!

  2. Anyone got a timetable of events?

Working fulltime now means I'm not as flexible as I once was and so weekends are my only option. Thinking of trying to get across somehow, flying in (sounds more glamorous then it is) from Birmingham for the weekend of 9/10 May is an option but then need to get to Guernsey.

    Any extra information greatly received.

  3. A friend of mine was involved with Birmingham Fire and Ambulance Service back in the day and remembers this vehicle well. He told me the following:

"I remember this Truck coming into use during the later part of the War, the Body was built and the Crane fitted in the NFS Workshops in Tyburn Road Birmingham and was painted NFS Grey. Soon after 1948 it was painted Green and given the fleet number 100. I understand when it was sold off around November 1970 it was used by Birds of Stratford on Avon (Scrap Dealers) for a number of years."

The picture attached of it was taken in the Fire Station Yard at Birmingham A1 Central.

Hope this is of further interest.

  4. Great pictures, and what a strip down so far!

Been running through some old picture albums of late, stumbled across these shots from a very wet Belvoir Castle. Despite the conditions they were and still are some of my favourites simply due to the way your Antar dealt with the problems that others faced.

  5. Some cracking pictures there Father Ted and Runflat. I thought I recognised that registration plate and as you will see the picture attached shows the machine in a different guise some years later.

Someone sent me the picture so I have no details on it. Having checked on the DVLA website it was last registered almost 20 years ago in 1995, so it could well be no more.

  6. I visited over the summer for my first real WW1 trip, barely touched the surface really. Will return again. Although I'd studied WW2 items of interest in the Northern France/Belgium area I never knew how close some of the WW1 battlefields were to these sites.

  7. In general I did find it difficult getting many useful photos, because once people have taken their photos then they stand around in the way or get up close & then just stand there. I'm sure that they would be quite annoyed if someone did that when they were taking their photos!

This is my biggest bug bare, especially when it comes to the more interesting machines which you might not get chance to photograph again. Don't get me wrong we've all been guilty of it but I always apologise if I've done it to someone else as I know how annoying it is. Some people seem totally oblivious to it all!

Anyhow, Dorset was certainly hard work on the legs on the days I visited (Wednesday and Thursday) and its the only time I've ever been and never seen any vehicle movement in any of the arenas. Shame as I especially love the Play Pen when its in full flow. Still enjoyed the show though, thought the WW1 section was brilliant and it was also good to see a few friends who I only see at this event. See what people meant about the Commercial section being totally different to how it used to be, seemed to have been cut by way over a half.

  8. On Tuesday afternoon, 26th, spotted this: http://www.milweb.net/classifieds/large_image.php?ad=73558&cat=4 coming north on the M5 on-board one of Crouch's low-loaders around the Worcester area. Confused me a little with Booth's being located in Lancashire and Crouch's in Leicestershire I couldn't quite work out where it had been with it having been for sale recently.

Then on the way home, Thursday 28th, spotted a modern APC on-board a low-loader which had seemed to suffer a blow out around Junction 4 of the M5.

  9. As others have mentioned it is usually the elderly that are taken in by these scams. On Christmas Eve in 2012 my granddad was duped into providing bank details as he believed that it was someone from the Halifax ringing him up. Thankfully after phoning us we realised it wasn't and got onto Halifax straight away to cancel everything. However this led to Christmas that year being somewhat spoilt for my granddad as it took us until the 27th before we could check for sure that nothing had been taken. Thankfully it hadn't.

There really are some low life around and as I say it is the elderly that they target the most. The majority of us know not to touch these things with a barge pole though thankfully.

Moving back to the original subject though, why you would spend so much time in sending emails when it comes to vehicles is beyond me. I suppose its the one in 100 people that send money to them that keeps their hopes up though!

  10. That is to move the items from the Museum to a storage depot a few miles away.

Thanks for the link Richard, I was also wondering what the transport costs were. I followed it with interest for a while, any idea of what time it will start this evening, will it be about the 6.30-7pm time again?

  11. I read an article in one of the mv magazines recently about British cruiser tanks captured and re-used by the German Army. But now I can't find it. Can anybody remind me please in which mag and which issue it was in please?

John, just had a look and it was in Classic Military Vehicle Magazine, Issue 154 March.
