Thanks Scott - that's really interesting. We knew it had been in Northern Ireland, but didn't know any exact dates. Please send my appreciations to John for the info
Tom

I emailed the link to this and your site to my friend John Thompson who wrote The Green Machine book all about AFS vehicles.
He came back with the following details, which I hope may be of interest: "Its an interesting Vehicle (JJD231D) Chassis No: Bedford RL 49022, one of the very late (1965) registered Home Office AFS Vehicles. It was built as a Hose Layer and was allocated as part of the Northern Ireland Emergency Fleet (Fleet No:37) and was in store at Marchington as part of the NI Fleet in September 1998. It was at Witham Sales in March 2006 and was subsequently sold."

No PLESAE don't stop, its very interesting. I check it for update every day. I asked about the engine as it has an exhauster fitted, I was just interested in if it had been built with vac over hydraulic brakes.
Doug, you are doing a great job on an interesting and rare vehicle, keep it up and we all want as many photos as possible.
I would concur with this, please keep the photographs coming as this vehicle is of real interest to me as it combines two areas which I like - showmen and military vehicles.

I haven't found the slides of the Morrises on the front at Blackpool yet but have found pictures of one of the Southport DUKWs that have also been mentioned in this thread. It's a B&W print that I've scanned but I recall the DUKWs were red with a yellow stripe. This picture was taken in 1990 or 1991.
Just spotted this on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DUKW-WW2-AMPHIBIAN-TRUCK-2-5-TON-6x6-wwII-wartime-amphibious-duck-/161978850691?hash=item25b6b11d83:g:mDsAAOSwG-1WweJI

Quest running out of program ideas?! Might we see the Wheeler Dealers fixing a MV or Drew's van?!
As someone who enjoys both programmes, it was good to see a little bit further inside the collection that Bruce has.

One coming up for sale here among other items of interest: http://www.cheffins.co.uk/news/keeley-sale-announced-1433-vintage

Not too bad a price for that Striker - can't say I have come across one before.
About three or four years ago now I managed to pick up a very good condition Armoured Command Vehicle for £6. There was another one and having seen how much they go for now I wish I'd have picked it up. Sadly no boxes though.
It is hard to pick up a bargain these days in Dinky, I find it that way anyway.

Evening all, something interesting popped up on twitter this week which led me wanting to learn further about a vehicle which I must admit I had not heard of before.
The picture was posted here:
Someone said that it was an Alecto. Now I was wondering if anyone else had any further details other than what is available on Google or if there are any other pictures about.

I will probably restore it to an MW for the time being in the hopes to continue with the MWR restoration over the coming years, on the plate its a 1951 REME rebuild to an MWR, doing the history with the number we had, it was formerly an MWD - a friend printed all the history that I currently have at home I will see if i can dig it out, I do know that there was a 1939 date on the radiator can't remember the manufacturer, hopefully this weekend there will be quite some progress, unfortunately restoring the vehicle started out well, sprayed most of the components, now the neighbours have complained "this hideous vehicle on the drive is ruining our close" (blah blah) even though I haven't made noise/annoyed etc, but they had me take down my temporary spray booth outside hence why at the moment the truck shows 2 shades of olive
Perhaps remind them that 'this hideous vehicle' and those that served on it let them live in their close as they wish
Truck is coming on well though, always enjoy reading a good restoration thread.

Very nice find indeed, look forward to following the restoration thread.
Out of interest how many tankers were made?

think panes garage is in Upton-Upon-Seven as i recall seeing the ward parked out side the front of the garage when i went to the Welland steam show earlier this year. nice to see such an iconic truck still owned and operated by a working garage.
cheers sam
Yes it sure is, don't know why I said Stourport :nut:. Good to hear that it is still around though.

Looking great, all the hard work pays off when you end with something like this.

My dad spotted this one towards the latter end of 2015. Information board said that it hadn't long been acquired by the company.
