Yes its still in use, its still has the Meadows engine in,the wrecker gear is a Holmes 700,but it has Garwood winches in stead off Holmes..just had an engine overhaul and a repaint.the train wieght is 100 tonne, max speed 25 mph,and it returns 2-3 mpg..it does nt have a silencer, just stright 6 inch exhust..we mainly use it for off road recovery and in ice/snow
Thank you for these interesting details. It would be great to hear what you know of it's history and see a few 'photos posted here if possible. Thanks.

OK Folks - if anyone wants a Mk 1 this is the reply I received today:
Be nice if a couple could be saved for future generations!!!!
I had been wondering if the original post was referring to van Dam's yard. These Militants have been standing in the open for over
10 years and are likely to be in very poor condition indeed. I can remember being told of van Dam having row after row of low mileage MK 1's available in good condition but that was many years ago.
If anyone wants a MK 1 they might wish to consider Richard's gun tractor which I believe is being offered for sale on this forum.

I have a 1940 Indian sport scout and a 1948 Indian Cheif , My father has a 1941 military scout. Once you have riden a Indian riding a Harley comes up short. They are the best of the Yank machines.
Remember what Jools Holland said, Harley Davidson, nice bike for a girl !
It would be great to see some 'photos of these bikes posted here sometime. In the meanwhile, check out this YouTube vid.
Just out of interest, were more HD's employed by the military than Indians ? As has been mentioned in previous posts, there always seem to be more HD's around.

Having never visited Beverley seeing your wonderful photographs was quite a thrill. Thank you for posting them here.

do they not proof read these days?
That's the proof they don't.

"Tugs of War" certainly falls far short of the standard set by this book.
-
Peronally I wouldn't trust Tugs of war too much, I find all Pat Wares books are great for photgraphs, but the written text is poorly researched and I have found countless mistakes in Tugs and his book on the Antar!
Unnecessary cropping of photographs, the use of metric, and not imperial, measurements and Mr.Wares observation that "no Scammell Constructors have survived in preservation", oh really ? "Tugs of War" could have been so much better .
