  1. I too have just registered my Californian import 43 Ford GPW

Took it for MOT £50, Got letter from my MV Club -£ nil, Took loads of photos of chassis, engine, tub etc nos and data plates (close up and wider showing position of them etc) Got insurance on its chassis No (as did for MOT) Also had the Customs document showing it legally imported etc and the Californian title (equiv of V5).

Filled in the V55/5 and took everything to local DVLA - caused a lot of interest in office and they now have photos on their board. Next day received tax disc and 3 days later the V5, all legal now and within 5 days on road registered and happy - so I think it must vary considerably from office to office

  2. Yep, antenna bag/side pouch off of the murphy carrier used to carry the A41 (Larkspur) radio. The other bags that go with it include the radio bag and the spare battery bag, which was a square one that lay flat below the radio and jutted out the back.

info here, the A13 used same backpack with different layout- there is a photo of one with the antenna case to the right

  3. Hi Davie

yes the 'original' owner from about 20 years ago came to the TAC and arranged for Alan Galt (Galt Tpt) to uplift it and refurbish etc- not sure what it is going to look like military or wrecker etc? so presume he has it in Dumbarton area, as that is where his firm is.

At least something is getting done to it and I believe he has a donor vehicle too! The only message I got was (from a Sgt Major) some gadgie came and showed the V5 and took it- I had no end of trouble trying to get info on it as i was worried it was taken with little knowledge etc, but it all sorted itself out in end, I hope. Mr Galt did not reply to me as I was on the hunt for a gadgie and never knew it was him lol.

I still have original photos from uplift at Bo'ness and some diary items etc to pass onto him but he never got back

  4. Whatever he manages to get it will need pegged/pinned down as it can move and also be whipped up in a slipstream from a prop etc. Class 60 is a lot narrower than the class 30 there is also the large mesh panels that was made specifically for airfields with peg plates etc. Will try to get info on this stuff as a lot of it went to surplus.

  5. Hi

Does anyone have any information or references/photos of reinforced rear (and poss front?) springs used by LRDG/SAS jeeps in desert war- as they carried so much kit, fuel (up to 13 or 14 jerricans), ammo, weapons, rations, water etc - normal springs must be bottomed out or inverted and I was once told that they reinforced them with other leaves etc.

Any info appreciated as I need to do up our vehicles for real and need info soonest please.

  7. Some bases/units had their own utilities section working under the QM section to maintain and repair infrastructure and install and upkeep utilities like power and drainage and such like, maybe this was the camp run around hence no back seat for carrying tools and eqpt

    just my twopence worth

  8. Hi

Does anyone have sources to the maps used in Egypt and Libya(Cyrenica, Tripolitania etc) 1940-43 especially minefield maps- this is for forthcoming expedition and required to plot old info on new maps etc.

Paper or electronic maps are fine

  9. It has probably been answered a hundred times before and there are threads on here somewhere but can't seem to find them.

With reference to the G503 lube chart etc. What are (modern) british equivalent types of oil and lubricants that will be compatible with the jeep -e.g. engine oils, gear box, transfer case and axle oils etc

I don't want to relube and change oils etc to find that I have used wrong type that will rot or melt seals etc. Jeep previously from California and never been serviced here until now

    Thanks
