  1. Just be careful if getting items from some of the Asian sellers as I have been stung with getting uniforms that were supposed to be BD khaki coloured etc to find them almost orange and I had to dye them a few times to even look desert sun bleached brownish. Ask for samples of cloth before you buy.

  2. I remember a camp we used, in late 70s and early 80s, for an exercise base over a few major exercises called Pinewood Camp, I think it was near Liebenau west of Neinburg (where we had a friendly Engineer Camp attached to us) but can't see it on Google maps etc. I remember it was in front of one of the largest Ammo depots in GDR, some Ordnance bods might have been based there.

    Anyone else been there?

Just added - found info here http://baor-locations.co.uk/PinewoodCamp.aspx

  3. Re lightweights, some units only wore them in barracks, parades etc and preferred the OGs with cross over belt fastening and button fly (as mentioned in previous missive above) as they didn't melt in a riot situation in NI (my old mob, Para Regt for instance we were still wearing them in late 70s early 80s) and the OGs with Dennison smock looked more 'ally' (pukka and better or warry looking) as did the purchasing of a victors (of Aldershot) beret instead of that hideous issue one.

What size are you as might have some lightweights up in loft you can have (although on my clothing issue sheet I still have them on issue along with black sandshoes, green wooly gloves, green Y fronts and vests etc lol)

  4. 100 handy hints for use of spouses - #56

By using missus as a counterbalance on a tractor, the thrifty Farmer can save a fortune on tyre wear. Please note you will need rest of family to do same if rear wheel is the one not being used

  5. Another good thing I remember, when we were enemy orange forces (as Para infiltration behind En lines etc), was that in order to locate the blue forces positions and headquarters etc didn't require any of the recce or fancy DF equipment, you just had to ask Helmut, Hans or Wolfgang, who went round all the locations in their Brattie wagon, they usually had a well marked up map to rival any Int Officers.

On a similar vein, do you (or have done in past) make the canvas sand mats used in western desert by LRDG etc (the ones that take wooden slats in canvas sleeves with pointed end and rope on end) I sent similar message, some months ago, via your website email contact link but nothing heard so far

    cheers

    Hi

Would anyone have a list of CES equipment meant to be carried by WW2 wreckers in British/REME hands, especially for a C60L CMP wrecker with Holmes crane etc. Mainly looking at A Frames, strops, chains, anything else for vehicle recovery that would be carried.

  9. Hi David

I have been looking at these for some time now, looking for a working one for our vehicle, and the prices have varied from as low as £150 to over £500 with the highest I had seen at £850, but that was with the whole CES of kit from masts, aerial/antennas, mounts, boxes of spare valves and cables etc. The average working sets with all the basics necessary were about £300-350 ish. Have seen some go really low on Fleabay and others go really silly high but never been lucky to get one at a reasonable price.

There are a few sites that specifically deal with No 19s (canada and here) and if you Google No 19 set you will see them. Once you are set on a price and if any for sale wouldn't mind trying for one. some sites below

  10. My first MV was a Champ that I bought from a mate for £75 in the mid 70's. Did it up and then lost interest and time in it so gave it away about 5 years later. Often wondered where it ended up, TGA 751G if I remember correctly and a 1954 year.
