  1. Spoke to the ships manager in charge today.

Shes getting fixed up, interiour is out and was getting steam cleaned out while I was there.

They are going to fill all her inner spaces with foam (dont know if spray or blocks) and stick her in the wet basin and try to sink her!!!! (His words not mine)

Going to be subjected to severe boyancy testing to see if can be capsized.

Apparently the hull steel on these is only 2mm thick!!!!

  2. Oh, I thought it was a stylistic choice to give that dreamy, olde worlde look.

I too thought I was using my artistic bent mate....!!!!!

I work in oil, I wear oily clothes and so does my fone, sorry but thats as clean as it gets. ;)

Also was almost in direct sunlight, but I can get better pics whenever required.

  3. Question Sir!! Can I have it please! :-D

Looks like shes getting fixed mate.

I tried to get a pic of the hole around the prop shaft, its cut out for repair as is the insides. Think shes getting refitted by the way stuff has been removed carefully. the pics were taken on my fone in strong sunlight!

Not much visible damage left, all marked in chalk and cut out.

At the end of the day, it wasnt the operators fault that there was a tyre in the dock!

The company is being run by the administrators so as not to run at a loss and have to cease trading.

She is in Cammell Lairds Shipyard in Birkenhead. I do a lot of work in there on the MOD ships and others.

I will find out who is in charge of her tomorrow when in there and see if i can get any further info.

  4. That's one of those "almost, but not quite" things Pete.

If I remember my thread history, NPT is basically the same thread size and pitch as UNF, and was designed originally to seal either against a tapered NPT or a parallel UNF thread, of course it prefers the NPT.

As an example, think about the headless bolts on the Dodge rear springs. They are fitted with NPT grease fittings, but the extractor tool is a plain UNF thread of the same diameter - you just screw it in till it jams then rotate the bolt out.

All the tapered pipe fittings on the GMC or the Dodge will be NPT I think, with one silly exception. On the civilian-style oil pressure gauges the thread into the back of the gauge itself is some oddball non-NPT thread. The absolute best source for all this info is the ORD 7-8-9 Parts List for the vehicle, where all the thread sizes of hose, tube, and fittings are laid out plain and clear.

NPT, National Pipe Thread, American version of BSP (or BSPT) but slightly different pitch.

Most hose places tend to just keep BSPT which they will sell as NPT as the pitch is simelar to 1/2", then they arnt compatible. Americans also like UNF which is also known as JIC.

Need any pitches or thread sizes just ask, got them all!

Need anything just ask, I AM the Mobile Onsite Hydraulics Hose Man! ;)

  5. Hi All,

  6. Do a search on here for LEDs It has been discussed in depth before.

Not all (in fact I don't think many) 12V LED light units will work on 6V - I've tried a couple without luck.

A lot of commercial vehicles and artic trailers have LED lamps now.

behind a wagon today that had LED rear light clusters, first time ive seen them.

  7. Look what hoseman found today!!!!

And Ive got full permission to crawl over / under her!!!!

  11. Simelar thing happened to a mate of mine.

He collected old bikes and classic cars. he asked me to restore a BMW 3.0, early Batmobile type, for him while he was ill. Sent me a cheque every month to cover work and to pay for all parts. Stripped the car and started rebuild with all new parts as bought from BMW. Full bare metal respray etc,

Then he died and I stopped to see what his ex missus wanted to do with the car. Was told to leave it and not do a thing. I offered to buy it off her at current market price and finish the work for myself. She refused and had the scrap man take the lot to be crushed ONLY, not to be sold on etc!!!

I made sure I put all the old stuff in the MINT shell and kept all new parts for myself! Car was crushed as is....!!!!

    Fooking mental some people!!!!

His bikes and Austin 12/4 heavy were never seen again either!!!!

  12. Its called a BULK FILLER, mainly used on auto lube systems on plant to fill the auto lube tank!

Is that the type you want with the pump handle on the top?

The commercial ones dont normally come with the flat faced coupling, just normally a grease nipple and we change them over for what the customer has on machine if different.

On the Volvo loading shovels they have a grease nipple when new but slow as hell filling so we change them over to a larger ISO male on the machine and a female on the bucket!

Let me know if that is the type of pump and can point you in right direction mate.

  13. Some would say it's already screwed as it's a chieftain....

Going to need several gallons of hydraulic fluid.

If you were closer mate could lend you my filter/flushing rig.

Sorry mate, but if you want to be sure and save further expense then got to be done.

Some of the horrors I see when people try to save money and DIY the job...! Scarey.

not draining the system, re-using the OLD OIL they drained out in first place, normally emulsified (Water ingress) or black as hell!! re-using old (internally collapsed sometimes due to contamination!!) filters etc.

Not priming the pump is a normal thing, thinking the system will suck the oil in straight away and all good, then demanding a refund a few weeks later caus the pump was knackered when new!!! Open it up and innards scoured to hell caus of oil starvation!! Just had one on a £3000 motor, clever dick got his fitter (who is only a sparks!!) to fit one I supplied, just ordered a new one 2 weeks later....and wants me to fit this time!!! LOL;)

Welcome to the world of HYBOLLOX mate!

  14. Thanks for the heads up.

I think there was half a beach in the hydraulic system as even the gears were worn and damaged.

The system will be flushed and all filters changed (it's amazing what spares we've got when we look).

Make sure you get right into the oil cooler too mate, thoes grains of sand are just sitting there lurking waiting for new oil and pump/motor before getting out n screwing your system!!!! Slippery little fookers they are!!!!;)

  15. Hi all, not sure of its official name, but I am looking for the hand-operated lubrication oil injector pump, used for lubricating some of the suspension components on the FV600 series vehicles...

I had won one of them on eBay but oddly all contact with the seller has been lost....

My Saracens suspension needs oiling, as its beginning to creak and groan a little when venturing off road.

if anyone has one for sale I would be interested!

    kind regards...

    Oily

Can you be more specific in what you want mate?? Any diagrams or pics?

I work on auto lube systems and might be able to help in that department!
